Discouraged: Is EVERY public USA nursing program impacted?
Look into a rurally based program. Lower population counties typically have several hospitals spread out over several counties in which they place their clinicals. For instance: Tarleton State University in Stephenville TX. Once done with pre-reqs, or on your completing semester, you are in the Nursing Survey class,a pool from which they take their Foundations class. At that point you're in. No wait. The only hold up is your not fulfilling requirements. They take in 64 students per semester and I feel sure there are other rural programs out there where the push to enter isn't quite so bad. Good luck!

** Any Class of '09ers out there?? Post here!!!
Name: Indigo School: Tarleton State University (Texas) Program: 4 yr. Bachelor of Science, Nursing What area of interest at this time: I think I'm aiming toward surgical or neurosurgical nursing. Biggest fear: To fail a clinical and thus have gradation delayed...or even be removed from the program. What you'd like us to know about you: I'm a 34yr old ex-housewife with no children and an aging mother who will need my support almost as soon as I graduate.

It is ALMOST that time...
Howdy y'all! This is my first post but I've been reading along all through my pre-reqs, 2 years of them! Next Fall I start my Foundations class for the BSN at Tarleton State University. Technically its semester 2 since we had to do Intro to get into the program. 2 of 6. Woot!! I'm on Micro right now and its a monster as a 5.5wk course. But still, all in the name of the calling right? GOOD LUCK!:balloons:

Tarleton cross over program...
http://www.tarleton.edu/~nursing I'm in the generic bsn program but I can say that they're small and very focused on their students. I've had no trouble with wait lists and tuition is very reasonable. Stephenville is a small town of about 15000 so finding a place to live cheaply is easy. Also, they have apartments on campus with full kitchens etc for a reasonable price that come with cable and internet. Wrap it up into your loans.:) The web site should give you an idea of what to expect otherwise. Goodluck!

Waiting for letter of acceptance!!!
Hey Jenn! I'm 33yr old as well and waiting for that letter is killing me! This starting over is so hard and I'm looking at dorm life, at my age! At least the program isn't quite as competitive as many I've read about here though. The school has accepted me as student I know, for the last semester of pre-nursing. I wish you luck. It's a hard road I know!

Question
As I recall, a prof told me that they feel the itching because NTs are still being transmitted down the nerve axons toward the missing nerve. However, there is no place for the NTs to go so they just stop at the end. The brain however thinks they got where they're going and thus you 'sense' the limb that isn't there. This is used in some of the more complicated limb replacement devices now where they can literally put a sensor at the terminated nerve ending which stimulates a motor to move the limb or digit, etc. It's all quite fascinating! Biotech watch out. It's the $6mil man! ArtsyIndi

How do you pay for school?
I had the same trouble, then got divorced and it got worse! Now I'm in an intensive ADN program that's 16months. No way to work. So, I have a sponsor. Check with your local hospitals. It's fairly common. Once you're accepted to an RN program you can ask them about a sponsorship in which they'll pay for your education and living expensed in exchange for a contract to work when you graduate. Mine is 3months FT work for every $1500 they give me. I get $500mo which is penny ante but it's a start. Added student loans grants, etc and it works out fairly well. The contract should not effect your future pay scale either. It's strictly work later for money now. No deduction from later pay. Good luck!
