Death Rates Higher at For-Profit Dialysis Centers: Study
I couldn't agree more with the exception of a few rare cases. I love the "squeeze every nickel until it screams" part. As true and sad as it is, the visual I got really made me laugh. I work on the technical side of things and that really hits us hard sometimes. They want to spend the bare minimum to get things fixed but get angry with us when it breaks down again. They don't understand that by just spending the extra buck, not only will it lower future repair costs and down time, but it will go lengths to helping us achieve our ultimate goal.... patient safety. Well, at least I know it's my goal. And I find it really agrevating when a safety issue is brought up and all the higher ups act so concerned and get the "we need to do something about this" attitude. Then when it comes time to foot the bill they don't want to spend the money to do it right and safe. "Cost effective" and "cheap" have two entirely different meanings. I can tell you which one I would go with if the decision were mine. Okay... I'm done with my rant now. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :)

Avatars
Jnette, You can upload images from your puter to a Pic Hosting site (I use Village Photo and it's free) and then under User CP>Edit Options>Change Avatar you can put the link to your avatar from the pic hosting site. If you wanna try that, the site is http://www.villagephotos.com/ . The site does a pretty good job of explaining how to use it and it's pretty easy. Hope that helps!!

Clamping Needles Sites
The clinics I service are DEPENDANT on the clamps. Everyone uses them. I think they're somewhat dangerous myself, but they seem to work well for the most part. :)

Elderly Couple die from using oven as source of heat
If I were the son I would be OWNING that building. Then I would install a HVAC system with heating AND a/c available year round. It has gotten cold here (low 30's) a few times this fall but I have not had to use the heater yet. However, at least if I do need it, I know it's there and won't need to resort to using the oven. Nobody should ever have to resort to that (well, unless it's an old house and that IS the heating system). It's bad enough when you hear about people dying because of other causes but when someone dies just because they were trying to stay warm because SOMEBODY didn't get the heating system fixed it's even worse. Just makes your heart sink reading about it.

hello
I'm sorry to hear that... j/k I came to Gambro from Fresenius and I like it better over here. But, I'm a biomed tech so that may be the difference. Just seems like people respect me more on this side and I have more say on what goes on. Fresenius just seemed like they were getting too controlling and not appreciative enough and this move has been my (in my personal opinion) best move yet. Things seem to run a lot smoother over here for me. Anyhow, welcome to the board. If you have any tech questions in the future that I may be able to answer, shoot! I'd be more than happy to help. I've worked with both H and K's, Zyzatech SDS system, Zyzatech RO's (portable and clinic based) and Osmonics RO's. I've worked with more, but that's mainly what Fresenius uses if I remember correct. Holler if ya need me!!

Can I Vent?
Yeah... I see their point. As much as it would frustrate me to find it there to begin with, you know they're not gonna do it so you may as well be the good guy/gal and do it for them. I find myself in similar situations sometimes and know that I will feel better myself if I just do it and get it over with. Yes, they're being lazy but your not setting the example, which is what they may need, by leaving it there. No flames intended, just my opinion. You seem like a good person. This situation is opportunity to lead by example. Just pointing it out. :)
