Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program
i think the bridge and accelerated acceptances were first only because the orientation date for these programs is earlier than the ones for the generic. i think for the bridge if i remember correctly the orientaion is july 9. i see on the mdc website the generic orientation is a week or so later. so that would mean the generic program acceptances will come on later...hopefully soon though! good luck everyone! :)

Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program
Hey guys! I applied for the Fall 2012 Bridge program. I am currently an LPN and I would like to pursue my education and become an RN. I am hoping and praying that I do get accepted in Miami Dade's bridge program because it is the only program I applied for. I just find it so hard to pay a private school so much money just to become an RN. This waiting to hear about our acceptance into the program is a killer. Anticipation can drive me nuts. I called the advising department last week and they said that emails should start going out this from this week until the end of June. I am hoping I don't have to wait until the end of june! I wish you all the best of luck and I hope it works out well for all of us.

Robert Morgan Educational Center LPN Program
well, there are a few young students in my class...the youngest being 19 years old. i admire her for knowing where she wanted to be from early. and we have a few 20 and 21 year olds too. but the majority of the class is older... i would say average age is about 30. we do clinicals at nursing homes throughout the area. we will also have clinicals at jackson south hospital when we get to OB and pediatrics! i dont know much about MDC LPN program, but i do know that robert morgan does have a good strong program with great teachers. it can be difficult at times, but there is always support when you need it. i have been in the program for 6 months and it seems like time is just flying by. there are a few students in the program that did try to get into MDC RN program and did not get accepted, so they decided to take a different route. in my opinion, i like the fact that i will get the experience of being an LPN before I take on the responsibility of an RN (even though the tasks performed are almost the same thing). it can be very challenging, i mean nursing is no joke. let me know if you have any more questions...i am here to help!:)

Robert Morgan Educational Center LPN Program
Dani, I actually just started the LPN program at Robert Morgan on August 24. The program is 14 months and they do offer day and evening classes. The day classes are from 8:00am - 2:45pm and the evening hours I am not sure about, but believe they are from 3:00pm - 9:30pm. The program average costs is about $5000-$6000. The tuition costs the $5000 and the books and uniforms add the extra $1000. The work so far we have encountered is doable....it can get a little complicated at times, but if you do want to do nursing, you know that it is not easy. I just finished completing my third week and we have had either a test or a quiz everyday, so be prepared to study all the time! :wink2: I decided to go to Robert Morgan because I read many great things about the school and I have a couple of friend that attended and they highly recommend it. It is a great school from what I see as far. The teachers are quite knowledgeable and they truly want everyone to pass. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I did just start the program, but I will try my best to answer any questions that you may have.

Possible LPN in Miami, Fl.
BerryHappy...how did you go about getting South Florida Workforce to pay for you classes? I am starting Robert Morgan's LPN program in October and I found out about South Florida's workforce helping students with tuition. I am just not sure how to go about it....any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

LPN AND PROUD OF IT
good to hear!!! glad to see you love what you do and that is what's most important.

LPN's PLEASE READ
When my sister-in-law became an LPN in Miami, she worked at a nursing home and got paid $18/hr and within two years she was making $20/hr. She then became an RN and started making $23/hr working at a community health clinic....three years later she now makes $25/hr working at the same community health clinic. I would say the difference in the money is not much from a CNA to an LPN, but by being an LPN you are on your way to a better educational opportunity to becoming an RN. You really need to see if it is worth it for you...

MDC 2009 Spring Hopefulls!!!
Hey RNintheMakin, I spoke to someone at MDC and they told me that the letters start going out the first week of October. I am not sure how accurate this is, but we will see. MDC is one of the cheapest, but it is a hard nursing program to get into because and only because there are so many people applying to their nursing program because it is cheap and people think it is easy to get into. But their waiting list is too long. It is sad that if you are not perfect with your pre-reqs, you will not be accepted--no matter how much of a great nurse you will be. But I am not going to count on MDC. Don't think of a rejection letter as embarassing, but just an obstacle to overcome. I admire you for continuing to pursue MDC nursing school. I am right now looking into other schools. I have heard so many good things about Barry, FIU and Nova. Do keep me posted on what happens and I will keep you posted as well. Good luck to you too with all that you do.

MDC 2009 Spring Hopefulls!!!
RNinthemakin, Hey! I am in a similar situation. I have an AA and my overall cum GPA is a 3.28. I also applied to MDC nursing school for Jan. 2009. I am not looking forward to getting an acceptance letter because I really don't think it will happen. But if I don't get accepted, I have other plans. As for answering your questions, I really don't know if overall cum GPA is what they look at or just the pre-reqs GPA. I asked the advisers and they said it is the overall cum GPA, but some other people that are in the nursing program said it is just the pre-reqs. So I don't know. I also wondered the same thing, but can never be sure about that answer. It is a tough position to be in. Waiting is the hardest. I read some of your other posts and I see that you applied for the fall at MDC. What happened? What did they tell you? This would be my first time applying and I am not going to give up if MDC tells me know. They are after all not the only school out there. I wish you the best of luck and don' give up your dream. :)

Finally Applied
Hey guys! I know that some of you that were accepted into nursing school at NOVA might not have the time to reply, but I am still going to ask some questions and hope for some answers. I applied to NOVA nurisng school for Jan. 2009. I just finished sending the entire application packet this week and I feel pretty confident. So far I have recieved an email from the financial aid office stating to apply financial aid, one thanking me for my interest in NOVA and one on student rights. It is so hard to have to wait for something like this. I also applied at MDC nursing school for Jan. 2009. I have too many stories about this school (the high GPA story) and so I decided to pursue NOVA after reading and hearing so many wonderful things about the school. I just finished my AA at MDC and have a 3.28 and I am pretty sure I will not get an acceptance letter from MDC and so I am putting all my eggs in one basket and hoping for NOVA. My story is long and a difficult one to tell. When I graduated high school I started FIU with a scholarship and was doing great. Then, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer the third semester at FIU and I did not drop out. Instead, I struggled to fight my way through my classes, while I tried my best to be there for my mother during her chemo and radiation, I did poorly and recieved some not to wonderful grades. I left FIU and started working. My father could not keep a job and my mom was a nurse, but she could not work as much as she was. So I took it upon myself to help my family. I met a wonderful man (eight years my senior) and after a year of dating we were married. I then continued to work and added to my responsibilities of being a daughter and now a wife. (I was 21 at the time). I decided to start back school at MDC and I knew when I started I wanted to be a nurse. My mothers cancer went into remission and I felt confident I could do this. I finished all my pre-req classes for nurisng school about two years after and was super hesistant to apply. I ended up not applying and just taking extra classes to keep up my GPA and working. I was working a Miami Childrens at the time. About a year and a half ago I stopped working to go back to school and finally decide what I was going to do. Six months later, at the age of 24, I found out that I was pregnant. I was so happy and so was my husband. My mothers cancer came out of remission that year and it ended up spreading to her spine. I gave birth to my son on July 30, 2007 and a few months later my mother went on long term disability since she was too sick to work. The bright side to this was that she would be able to spend more time with her grandson. She began oral chemo and radiation again. In January of this year, I continued taking classes in order to pursue an AA degree since I was unsure about getting accepted in MDC nursing school and I was afraid to apply. Around the same time my son turned 6 months and my mother became so ill, she was admitted to the hospital. She spend a week there and progressively lost the feeling and sensation in her legs, which enabled her to walk. She was able to walk with a walker, but would fall all the time. The doctors told her that it was obviously not good for her to fall since she could break a bone, which would add to her troubles and so she became bed ridden. At the end of January, she was discharged from the hospital and was at home. I spent my days spending most of my time w/my mother. About two months later in March, my mom passed away in her sleep. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life. After this ordeal, I am now more dedicated and motivated to becoming a nurse. I wanted to ask a few questions from those of you that did get accepted into NOVA's nursing school. I wanted to know how long does it take for them to reply to you and/or call you for an interview (that is if you are going to get one)? What kind of questions do they ask you at the interview? What can I expect? I know the best advice given is to "be yourself," but I wanted a more in depth answer than that since I am extremely nervous. I read something about a writing portion before the interview....is this true and if it is what do they ask you to write? And after the interview how long does it take before you know if you are in or not? I would also like to know about the Baptist Scholars Program. Does anyone know when you can apply for this and how long it takes before they call you for an interview? Also, how long does it take before you know you are in? Also, what is the schedule like the first semester at NOVA? What are the hours that you have to be there? Do you do clinicals the first semester or is it just regular classes? And if you do have to do clinicals, where do you do them? I am very interested in the Baptist program since I live about 10 minutes from Metro Zoo and would not like to have to drive so far just to go to school. I would much prefer going to Baptist. But I will take what I get since getting into a nursing school in Miami has become somewhat a challenge. The reason I am asking all of these question are obviously because I am nervous, but it also has to do with the fact that I need to leave the country at the end of October for about 2 weeks for a family emergency/illness. I am hoping I can get all of this stuff (interviews and applications) done before I leave (with the assumption that I am accepted into NOVA). As for now, I am going to keep my fingers crossed.

Any Nova Southeastern University grads or current student that can give advice ?
KdnRN2B, I am also looking into NOVA's nursing program. I hear so many good things about it. I am also looking to find answers to some of those questions you are asking in your post. But I cannot seem to get many responses. I would like to know what the interview is like and what kind of GPAs are accepted? I just recently applied for the nursing progam at NOVA this week and I need to send a few more things in to complete their application. NOVA seems to be a great school, so my suggestion is to go ahead and apply. =)

Nova Bsn Program Question!
Hey guys! I called NOVA and asked them how long their program was and they said it was 27 months....not 31 months. Which is correct? 27 or 31?
