  1. Thx for the reply. I'm very curious about the pros and cons. I don't know about the payscale yet.
  2. I just applied at dialysis at sea cruise ship as a RN. Has anyone worked there before and know the good and bad points. I am afraid is someone going on the cruise with a completely clotted access, I wonder what is the Cruise Ship protocol. The job sound exciting, I wanted to try it out for a month or so.
  3. I live in New York, and I'm planning to move to Charlotte Next Year. I only have 1 yr experience in Dialysis. I'll take any assignment in NC Hospital. So $20 to $22 is the average pay with no exerience? I'm already applied for a NC License.
  4. I understand what your saying but like I mention before, that someone left my job and move to Texas and she kept the same pay rate. Even Goverment jobs, such as Post Office let people relocate from NY and still keep there NY salarie. I'm just hoping its the same for NC.
  5. Thank You very much, I'm hoping they let me keep the same salarie.
  6. Hello Everyone I work for FMC in Queens NY, however I know the salaries in NC are much lower in New York. Will FMC allow me to keep my FMC salarie. There was a PCT who move to Texas and she kept her same pay. I hope they do the same for me. I won't move until the end of the year. Does anyone know? BigBoy
  7. I feel NYP is all about connections. I applied about 15 times over a period over a year and I recieve the generic reject letter. About a year ago a friend applied for a job at NYP, she had a very nice cover letter and a resume that said she had 20 years experience. We applied for the same job at the same time, she recieve the same rejection letter stating there looking for someone with more experience.
  8. Someone wrote they were rejected hired because they don't have a BSN. I just want to let you know that BSN are not being hire. Most New Grads that are being hired have some kind of connection. It doesn't matter if your a ADN or BSN, there are no New Grads being hired without connection. Just ask BSN New Grads at Molloy, LIU, etc., most of all there classmates are not being hire. I'm in my third week at a hospital, there were 15 new grads in March and 10 hired with me in April. Only 2 have there BSN, but everyone but me had a connection. I hate to say it but is not what you know but who you know.
  9. If you think back when ADN nurses had problems getting hired, it was when the economy went down. Before that ADNs and BSN did not have a problem getting hired. But because there is a shortage, now hospital can be picky, and with so many unemployed new grads, they can knock out have of resumes just by selecting BSN only. BSN graduates are more qualify, but we're all in the same boat. Also there are tons of new grads BSN can't find employment, so that is not a guarantee. Whoever completed a ADN program should not feel less of a nurse. We all went through HELL to get that degree.
  10. I think they will bump you up to a RN. I just got hired at a hospital, everyone got in by knowing someone in management except me. There on person who was a CNA and now became a nurse. We"re in our 1st week of orientation, and every educator during our orientation praises him and encourage all of us to follow his example and continue to go to school. Also its 6 new grads, they creating a position for all of us. They still don't know where to put us, so I'm sure they'll create a position for you. Also everyone who graduated with me who has your circumstances were all bump up to RN at there hospital.
  11. I agree with RN79sunshine list of what is going on in NYC. Many of us is getting off our Butts and looking for work. But most new grads who found jobs does have a connection. Most of the people who say get off your Butts are experience RNs who have a job and critiquing ADNs who can't find work. I just got a jobin a hospital, everyone there had a connection. I'm the only person there who did not have a connection, but somehow I won her over on a interview and she created a position for me. Now since other hospital are closing, many Nurse recruiters will hire them 1st. But I think everything will turn around. But now, get into a clinic, dialysis center, until things get better.
  12. The orientation phase is just getting you familliar with uploading and downloading files, using the online library, and getting you familliar with the APA Format which is a huge part of the program.
  13. Thank so much for the insight on the Program. I'm currently in the orientation phase and I'm looking forward towards the Nursing courses. I like the part that you can go at your own pace. By the Summer they will be fully accredited.
  14. I was accepted to Suny Delhi and I'll start March, is anyone else in the program or will be starting in March. I work full time and wonder how demanding the program is?
  15. I have a interview this week in LIJ, there opening a brand new Dept. called Subacute Care. But I don't know what this Dept. is about. I want to say the right thing on the interview. Does anyone know what is this Dept. is about? Is this a Dept. that is open 24hr a day or is it like a clinic? Also is there a posting for what to say and not to say on interview? I know what to say when they ask, What is your Weaknesses. But I don't know what to say exactly where do you see yourself in 5 yrs, and WHY DO YOU WANT TO WORK HERE? Thank you for any input.
  16. I agree with the comments before mind. Hang in there, I'm a new RN and I want to work in ER, OR, or ICU but now I'm in Dialysis for now. However you have one advantage over many people who are applying for RN school is that your a LPN. Meaning you can get into RN school much easier, and once you completed it, than you can go onto ER, OR and etc. At my job, I think being a male nurse is saving me from all the DRAMA. There is not only the catty nurses. But they also have the different ethnic groups(nurses) at each other throats , and the Patient Care Tech who works in Dialysis who don't like any new nurse. Also the Day shift and Evening shift are always argue with each other. I was told by a female nurse, because I'm a male nurse nobody is showing you all the attidutes. I'm getting along with every group at my job.
  17. I was a new grad. I haven't even taken the boards yet. There were about 7 new grads in my orientation who was hired by different Fresenius company in NYC. One day I was searching for a job and I got the entire list of Dialysis companies in Queens New York and started calling all of them. About 50% mention to me if I had experience that they will hire me, but they don't train. Only Fresenius are willing to train you. Also I know because the salarie is low, they know a certain percentage will leave in 1 to 2 yrs but that is okay with them. I appreiciate it because all hospitals have freezes on them, so all my class mates who are working is doing home care. Only 5% found job in a hospital or clinical setting. Re: Fresenius as an employer? Can I ask if you had medical surgical or Icu exp like is so broadly touted on this forum? I'm out in AZ and am coming up on completing my 1st yr of work exp but it's light on this type of experience. Nowadays it's virtually impossible to get into a hosp to get the exp that everyone demands, plus it's almost become a seasonal type of work since out here the old people leave when summer comes, the census drops, and they fire everyone!! That's why I took the job I have now, it is virtually guaranteed fulltime work and the pay is at the top for a new grad.....BUT....... I hate nights and am not getting longterm career-building exp, so am ultimately not satisfied, really just making good $$. Originally Posted by BigBoy75 I been working for them for 6 months. 18. Thanks you all for letting me know that I'm not nuts!!!!!!!!!I'll try to find out which Hospitals were hiring for Psych. Even myself, I work in Dialysis, the last job on my list to ever work. But everyone told me to hold on to it until the freeze are lifted. But that is my goal, is to use Dialysis to get into a Hospital and then transfer to a different Dept. when one comes available. But your right, when the freezes are lifted I still don't know if everyone can get hired. There are hundreds from different schools in Dec.08, and then spring 09, and now Dec. 09. Its going to be crazy.
  19. I been working for them for 6 months. The pay is not the best, and we'll never get a raise. All the nurses at my job work there for a 1 year and then start looking in a hospital. 20. I graduated Jan.09, I have a job however many of my classmates can't find work. About 90% haven't found a job yet. However many have been offer Psych jobs in Hospitals but turn it down because that is something they don't want to do. But can they work there in the Psych Ward for 6 months, and then when they see different RN job posting within there hospital then they can transfer to a different Dept? I think times are hard now and they shouldn't be picky, or that is not a good idea?
  21. Thanks for the reply, I'm leaving for work in 1 hours and that is what I was thinking about. Your right, I will have to depend on them when the going get rough. When that machine gets air in the line, I still don't know what do. I know some of them hate me because I'm a nurse, but when I 1st started I was trying to get them into my RN school. I use to work at my school admission office, an this is the only school in NY that accept student on "roll in" basis. I already help 4 of my friends in. The only part I hate is in 3 months all there nurses will have there 1 yr experience and there leaving. I wish I started earlier. But they do alienate the nurses when they do need help, if there is problems with the MACHINE and its a Cath patient, THEY WILL NOT HELP, they say thats your pt an won't touch that machine and let the dialyzer clot. But they want us to help them. This was going on long before I started. Well you said welcome to Dialysis, and I'm in it to stay.
  22. Many nurses gave you excellent advise, my opinion is for you to change Dept., preferably a staff that don't know you. When I graduated a few of my friends worked in O.R. But when they became RNs, the Dept head had to put them in a completely different O.R. Bldg. They knew they were not going to be respected. At my job, PCTs are hating on other PCTs are trying to get into nursing school. There not even in the RN program yet. That just the way it is.
  23. I'm new to Dialysis, I was trained in the Day shift but was put on the evening shift to fly solo. Today is my last week of training on the evening shift. All I know on the evening shift is that there is a thick barrier between the nurses and the PCTs. In New York, at at Chronic Clinic. PCTs are suppose to put the patient on and take off. Nurses are to do the Cath. patients. I can have 8 to 12 patients. There is 1 PCT for 4 pts. As we all know when change over hits its very hectic. The PCTs will want me to schedule myself to put on or take off there pts. Some of them work slow on purpose so you can jump in. I have my own load and sometime l don't get a break. Yesterday I started at 2pm, I didn't get a break until 10 pm (which I only to 20 mins ), and it was 2 of us,but all the PCTs got there break (30mins)and dinner break (1 hr). Sometime I jump in and help them, but then they try to take advantage of you. I know 1 PCT try to demand me to do there work, want me to strip and prime all here machines, but the charge nurse had my back and told her the New York State rules. Now I know why all the nurses leave in 1 to 2yrs. All the nurses have less than 1yr 2months on evening shift. All are planning to leave now. The only reason they stayed that long was to get the 1 yr experience. I'm trying to be a nice person but I don't want anyone taking advantage of me. I feel worst for the other nurses, because they told me because I'm a male nurse. Your not getting challenge as much. Is this a nationwide problem? Everyday there are serious arguments of PCTs trying to get out of work. Monday I'm alone, I'm thinking I might have to put everyone in there place when they work with me, or do I have the wrong attidue
  24. originally posted by mmurphy how sad these salaries!!. experienced dialysis nurses make 33-35 dollars an hour in new jersey. i work pool and make 45.00/hr. the southern salaries are ridiculously low. dialysis is not an easy job. if the pay rates were that low here i would wait tables. yes these salaries are sad. i worked with the charge nurse today, she ask me how much was my starting salarie, i told her $30.30 (low for nyc). she was new to dialysis but she was a nurse for over 15yrs. they started her at $31.00 hr, and she said it with a attidue, she also mention when she became charge nurse, her salarie was only raise $3. but she told me next week she looking for another job. she was only there for the experience. fmc is a ripoff corp, always promising raises but never come through. i counted all the nurses today, out of 13 nurses, only 2 have more than a 1 1/2 yr. my philoshy, get the experience and get paid the highest in your state. however do become skill, this job have a lot of responsibility.
  25. I work at Fresnius Corp. in Queens New York, they started me at $30.30 hr. to me its low. But I was a new grad at the time and didn't take my boards and they hired me. I called every Dialysis center in NYC and they were the only one who hire me with no experience. I say even if the pay is low, stick it out and get the 1 to 2 years experience and your certification. I saw post where you can make $45 to $50 hr. Then after you get your Renal Certification, than you can do what you want and make the Big Bucks$$$$$$$$$$$. At my job, all the nurses work there only for 1 yr and quit. They just want the experience. Already, I only been there 4 months and within 6 months they want me to be charge nurse. If I were you stick it with the low pay for 1 yr. its worth it.
