  1. I have a BSN and am making over 38 per hour, plus charge pay and night shift diff. Not to mention they are really nice people that work there!
  2. Better than Denver. Community is looking for ICU nurses! My base rate is awesome!
  3. Yes I did end up moving to Grand Junction! And I got a wonderful job at Community Hospital. I much prefer them over St Mary's in the interview. Here is a thought for you. While Grand Junction would be a wonderful place to start - consider too Fort Defiance Indian Hospital in Fort Defiance AZ. They have a loan repayment program in lieu of 2 years of service. Yes i know I just left there. And I was there for 7 wonderful years of my life! Think about it! Jen
  4. I'm strongly considering a move to Grand Junction Colorado. I have a lot of experience in ER, last two years I have been in PACU. I have 34 years total experience. I am BSN. What kind of pay would i be looking at and what are the opportunities like? just putting this out there to see what I get back! Jenny
  5. 1) Establish a great reputation as a nurse. 2) make friends with the managers and take certification courses. 3) Read EVERYTHING you can. 4) Have an amazing outlook on your work ethic. That is how I have earned this.
  6. I work 40 hours a week on my home unit 0630 to 1500. Then at least 20 hours on the second unit usually split by 1900 to 2300 and one full shift 1900 to 0330. The great thing about here is that my commute time is 5 min walking. Believe me if you really want to do something you find a way. I may be a workaholic also.
  7. I am going to be brutally honest. Sit down and take a breath. This is a difficult place for a new grad. You need to learn the critical thinking skills and wide base of experience you can get here. This is medicine from 10 years ago with very high level of frustration for a new grad because we are working very diligently to upgrade. If you pay attention you will learn sooooo much! Having said that if you want to start here come on down! Get into a specialty like labor and delivery and have at it! Either way we would welcome you and give you some great fundamentals!
  8. Yes, I have the experience and have been cross trained in 2 units. I have been working at this hospital since October 2011 as a full time employee. it is not like working in a larger hospital. Here you cultivate excellence across the board and work to your highest potential. I love it, it fits my style. Challenges: the nursing culture of "Good enough". the current CNO is working to change and challenge that. 2) the poverty and educational level of our patients - not at all what you would expect. They are wonderful hard working people who at their best are doing their best. At the worst they are drug and alcohol addicted. Housing is safe - one of the nicest places I have lived. Granted I am from a backwoods place. If you are full time you live on campus. 375/month for shared housing. 500/month for a one bedroom place. Here the nearest grocery store is 32 miles away. It is RURAL! Come check us out. People who come here either love it or hate it - there is no middle ground. :)
  9. Yes I am! working full time in the OR now. Part time in ER. Have worked peds clinic. What would you like to know?
  10. I currently work at Fort Defiance Hospital in Fort Defiance AZ. What would you like to know? Jen
  11. Ok, so what agencies are above board. How are they above board? Can you recommend a logical -read understandable - place that I can go to get this information? Thanks Jen
  12. Just know that what you are feeling is normal. Even after being in the ED for two years days can come along like this. keep your head up and IGNORE the stupid insensitive peeps who have a big red S tattooed on their chest. Their slow off the mark day is coming and you will be cleaning up after them! Hugs Jen
  13. NYS: Night shift 8:1 medium to high acuity in Level 2 trauma cntr. number of pt's in 12 hours shift 18 to 24 usually. 1) not good 2) barely adequate with is poor on my personal satisfaction scale.
  14. 26 years experience here as an RN. Education, education, education is the key. I started as a diploma nurse worked my butt off in a rural hospital while going towards my BSN. How I did it? one class at at time, one semester at a time. It sucked. I have worked almost every area imaginable. Gather the experience and aim for what you want to do. DO NOT be afraid to move from hospital to hospital and department to department. Even if the experience is a horrible one you will learn from it. Get your certifications and keep them current. Being a nurse is a marathon - not a sprint. Hugs of encouragement! Jen
