DAVITA dialysis center
DaVita would never pay $28 an hour to a new Grad RN lol believe me, I'd day they'd start you around $25 Pay's not great but benefits are okay Every person that refers a PCT gets $250, RN for $500 in DaVita, I think that may be the reason your friends wants you to work there. Don't make the same mistake I did, don't start in dialysis fresh out of school. Work at a hospital for a year, in med-surg, tele... than come to dialysis if you still want to. I started dialysis fresh out of school, I don't have any nursing experience beside dialysis. I'm well experienced pd/hd nurse but cannot get a job at er, icu, ccu, OR they dont take me because I dont have any floor experience. I'm looking for a change, want to do something else and have a hard time getting a job in those areas. I may apply to tele at this magnet hospital soon, get some experience and move on. Good luck in whatever you do, dialysis is very rewarding job also. You will enjoy it

Question about nursing and 12 hours shifts.
When I was in Nursing School, thinking about working 12 hours a day bothered me so much but now, I enjoy it very much. As matter affect, when I work 8-10 h sometimes, the day feels like a half day, like when we were in high school, and had a half day and you were so happy lol You will be fine, if it bothers you, you could always request 8-10 hours, or move to another unit.

Does anyone have a coupon code for allheart .com?
I don't think you can use coupons for stethoscopes at allheart.

Is Broward county saturated with nurses??
Definitely, and they won't hire a RN w/o experience. I have an excellent background in Dialysis and I currently run a medium size dialysis facility as a DON. I'm tired of what I'm doing and I want to something else. I have applied to jobs in my area (Holy-Cross, IPMC, NBMC, CSMC, Boca CH, Cleveland C, NWMC): Pre-op, post-op, icu, ccu, OR, case management, cathlab, etc.... and they all have turned me down because I do not have any experience in these particular areas. I started working in dialysis after school and have been doing that ever since. I've never worked in the hospital. But they only want to hire me in tele/med-surg or ER, and I do not want to work in these areas. I'm frustrated and I'm still stuck at my job

HIV Needlestick
I had dialysate splashed into my eyes from the hansen sets while getting them off the dialyzer and the pt was HIV+. As you know, dialysate mixes with pts blood and it was from the dialyzer. Like you I flew to the ER, got the appropriate cocktail and I almost lost my own kidneys, went into acute rejection and recovered later on but cr still around 1.9 after almost 2 yrs. We just got to be extra careful. I usually wear the full ppe, just that day, we were short and i did not put my goggles on and it happened. I didn't wear it just once in my 3 yr into and that was the day. I learned my lesson

If they are on the cycler, you can drain it directly to the sink or toilet, no need a bag. If they are on CAPD, their effluent won't way more than a 3-5L a bag.

Epogen SC administration
I work in PD and HD and we had always given Epo SC in PD and IVP in HD. Epo works longer if it's given SC. I believe CMS does not recommmend Epo to given SC to HD pts.

Fresenius or Da Vita new grad
1. DaVita 2. Fresenius 3. Same I worked for both, those 2 are basically the same. Fresenius is bigger than DaVita, therefor; pays more. But DaVita is better when it comes to pt outcomes. Ratio for a nurse, it does not matter, it depends how many pts you have in the unti. There is no ratio for RNs. Ratio is 4:1 for PCTs. In my state, CMS require 1 nurse has to be in the building for up to 16 pts, and when 17, then 2 nurses. I hope this helps. Let me know if u have more questions.
