TWU Spring 2010 Dallas regular program
Hey future J1's, i am a future J2. Tomorrow is going to be a hectic day. Remember if you didn't get everything they said its okay ask someone after. Also don't forget your wallets. Majors will be there offering book deals they except credit, check, and cash. TNSA, which is a nursing student association, will be there offering patches, name tags, uniforms, and opportunity to join. You will also be able to sign up for CPR training through TNSA. All of the supplies offered are at a lower price than Majors and better quality. TNSA accepts cash and checks. Look on the boards for good book deals, you can also look on craigslist for nursing books. Good luck tomorrow. See you there.

TWU Spring 2010 Dallas regular program
For time management You should read your notes everynight. It is really important to do that so you keep everything fresh. If you work you may want to make sure your job is going to be flexible for fewer hrs. Study with someone, even if you are not a person who usually does that. It is important to realize that Nursing school is nothing like any other classes. Your thinking lvl will be so different. If you are use to straight A's don't worry when you don't always make them. Just try to relax and focus on what needs to be done.

TWU Spring 2010 Dallas regular program
You will learn that the Pharm book is not used, so i will be selling that. Some students choose to use it but not many. There are a few others that seem to be okay to sell, such as the assessment book. You will have a concept book that contains a lot of the same information. Your med-surg book is a definite keep, calculations book is a keep, any HESI practice books are a keep. You will receive or be able to buy online key passes that allows you to access the Evolve site that will have extras for you. You will also need a clicker to use all 4 semesters. Majors will be offering a book package that contains everything for about $900. You maky be able to buy everything seperately cheaper if you have the time to look. Your stethoscope can be bought online cheaper than at the store. I was able to get mine engraved from the online site cheaper than buying from majors.

TWU Spring 2010 Dallas regular program
Hey J1's to be. I am just finishing my first semester as a J1. There is lots of information floating around. On orientation you will have an opportunity to order books, scrubs, patches etc.. TNSA is an organization that will offer scrubs and patches at a better price than Majors. You may alos see on the bullentin boards where other J1's are selling their books; this may be beneficial to some. You will have 3 main classes, 4 if you are taking Patho. This semester everyone attended Pharm/Concepts lecture on tuesday, Patho was on Monday mornings. Assessment was lec/lab on Wed, Monday, or Thursday. Concepts lab was on wed or Thursday. Assessment clinincals onoly took place 3 times, concepts clinicals took place either on wed, thurs, friday, or sat; it will depend on where your hospital is. Although there is no online courses you will be doing alot online. there is a great amount of paper work for assessments and concepts. As for the uniform there is a scrub etc right near the school they have great deals. Shoes area personal preferrence, but i wouldn't spend a great amount on the first pair, you want to make sure they are going to be comfortable enough for clinicals. There are some students who wore white shoes that contained more than just a little color spot. It is not preferred but it will pass. There is alot of information that you will receive on orientation but don't let it worry you. just pay attention to what they say about scheduling, and expectations. There is alot of repeating info that you will hear. If you have any queestions please let me know.

does anyone do pediatric hospice?
Jeanmarie, I am a nursing student and presenting a presentation on Pediatric free standing hospice facilities. I have been looking up information on George Marks. I was wondering if you would mind me using your testimony about what you do? Also would you be able to direct me to where i might be able to view pictures of George Marks and possible parent testimony? This presentation is a special project for our Nursing Program and only a few selected topics were accepted to present so i am trying to make it as informative as possible and I really want to touch the audience. Thanks so much for what you do and for your time. Talia Coley

Great I am glad that you have gotten it worked out. I wish more people from Dallas would hop back on. I would love to know who some people are. My group seems to be on a different life path than me so I don't know at how well it will work. I forget where you said your clinicals will be. Do you have everything? I still need to get my stethoscope.

TWU Dallas fall 2009 - Accepted
I took Patho with *****. I used note cards to help me study. The minute you get the info you need to start looking it over. I had to read over everything every day. He only lectured, we took notes. He made the class pretty difficult in my opinion. I heard that ******* will at least give you notes. It is definitly alot of connections to A&P. We had alot of Bio stuff not alot of case studies.

TWU Dallas -Cheaper books???
My name is Talia. You will get everything in the packet which includes Clicker, passcodes, extra material for study, and a secure knowledge that you will be able to access your book online becuase no-one else has used that keycode. It definitly is a large sum. Next semester I will get a better Idea if the package was worth it or if buying on my own will be okay. What area do you live in. I am in Mckinney/Prosper.

TWU Dallas -Cheaper books???
Hey, I thought the pricing was horrible too. I was able to find all of my books for about $600. The down fall to that though is there are no "special books online." You also will have to buy passcodes, which cost about $50 each. THen you have the clicker. So when it is all said and done the cost of the books I found and then the add ons the price jumped up to close to $900. So the best deal is to get the package. A lot of the books will be reused for other semesters. What group are you in? I am in group 8, clinicals at Presby Plano.
