hey i was wondering if you can tell me the ISBN number of the book you have i think i have it too, wondering you just studied the whole book? so basically you did 5,000 questions, ugh man i do like this book, i feel that i did hurst review and i didn't get anything out of just reviewing content that i already learned. any input would help me

so you just passed by doing 250 questions per day? did some of the same questions you had apply on the nclex, im just nervous , I mean i have the saunders book and did like probably 10,000 nclex just from nursing school exam's alone, but i been studying hurst, but it just seems like a review of the stuff already learned, im wondering if i should just use this as a reference and do like 6,000 questions before my exam date.

well, I know alot of students that don't have clinical experience , you learn to get comfortable with everything in nursing 1 from your nursing physical assessment class, as a freshmen you don't really start clinical's until about november so you only have like 5 weeks of clinical for nursing 2, most of the first semester of Nursing 1 and 2 is basically skills labs learning how to give injections,foley catherers, nasogastric tubes ect. As far as critical thinking, Nursing questions are different then just every class you have taken in your life time, you have to take hte actual concept like pathophysiology and your giving a question pertaining to that pathophysiology but they wont actually give you the "definition of the disease" its kinda hard to explain. you have to read a situtation in the question and if you know the patho of the actual disease then you know that BP would be low, the pulse would be high, the urine output should be and thats how its basically critical thinking because you have a question you have to apply applications and anaylsis it. Its not just memorizing the material you need to know how to apply it, i hope this examples it , only real way to know it is getting an NCLEX review book and reading the questions Eric

All, the instructors have their own different knacks, they all good teachers, and some are more difficult in clinical and class (as in terms of critically thinking) , but in overall they all are great teachers, they want you to succeed , so they are open to any questions or concerns you have. I only knew 2 people coming into freshmen year but you'll get to be a big nursing class full of friends because with nursing school you will have theses friends forever since going through alot of stuff with them

Well welcome to capital health :), Ill see you in the Fall to welcome you as a freshmen, UAP is basic stuff, like a nursing aide would be doing in a hospital based job, how to take BP, pulses ect. Yeah, nervous is all apart of Nursing school, Studying its a lot of studying sometimes people in your family wonder where you are at cause your locked in your room studying power points and NCLEX questions. LOL but its all worth it. I study 2 weeks before the test basically doing a little everyday and studying Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX review book. Nursing 1 is basically your nursing assessment course all the stuff you learn to do your own Nurse Assesment on a patient. Nursing 2 is cardiac,pulmonary,musculoskeletal, integumentary and respiratory

Is it NCLEX based exam just for the state to be able to transfer your liscense over?

reading this makes me jealous! , I use to live in Frisco, Texas. I love that city and the state of Texas but Im currently in NJ in nursing school just can't wait to finish school to move back to the city of Frisco.

well its awesome to see that this thread is really developing into something interesting to read each night, I do agree with acastrobsn about studying the Saunder's cd with the study mode NCLEX and do the section pertaining to the lecture and readings. acastrobsn , did you start in the Operating room and also how did you go about getting a job in there, because that is my future speciality after I finish nursing school

yup, sounds about what i do LaurenSN, I basically read the lecture the night before so I have a basic understanding on what they will talk about tomorrow and ask questions on stuff that i don't know. Also i make flash cards for the stuff that would need memorization. I go through the chapter review at the end of each chapter do the critical thinking questions and also the NCLEX review questions for each chapter. After lecture i would go home reread and write/type up my notes from class then start reading the required text for tomorrow lecture only if i feel confident that i know the material learned from the lecture today.

No, I don't mind you blogging, What have you learned from those books? Maybe you can share with me a little of what you have learned from taking Nursing exams and so forth, I always love feedback and knowledge of other peoples perspectives on the Critical Thinking skills. When I read questions , My friend who is a Nurse Educator always told me to close your eyes and picture what the question is asking by using Nursing process and to find out what the best way to answer it by visually attacking the question. Remember what the question is asking by looking at the transition words explains would be {the most effective treatment or the least effective or the first nursing intervention that should be done).

congrats man , on the journey to being an RN, My Graduating class has 17 males, looks like we coming on strong with our numbers :)

oh, i guess that's another book, I bought the Saunders Comprehensive Review NCLEX Examination. This book breaks the questions down per system which is awesome cause My Nursing exam's are taught per system. So, I can just read the section that has cardiovascular system and do those questions along with my Fundamentals of Nursing book review for that chapter. I hope that sounds like a good way to study lol

yeah! thanks for the information everyone. I think I am going to do a little bit of everything said. Plus buy a Saunders NCLEX review and go over the questions based on what content that I am learning for each test.

Hey fellow nursing students; I'm starting Nursing 1 in September. I was wondering what are some of the different studying habaits that you have found that help with the Nursing exams. Currently I am thinking about reading the power points they go over and then read the recommended readings. But, im not sure any input would be lovely.

Well the UAP reading assignment that we got I basically read and outlined only the Fundamentals book , i was gonna read the nursing assistance book that i do have, but i decided the reading for the nursing assistance book is rather easy, so i would read it the day after each class, But, as for the Fundamentals book reading I read up to the Cardiac System which is probably first 3 or 4 days. Now I dont want to read anymore because I am not sure which information they are gonna cover in theses chapters. How about you what have you read or done?

thanks for the information, right now I haven't started yet, we start Nursing 1 in August, and I have been reading the required text for each day and outlining the chapters in the Fundamentals of Nursing textbook. But, it feels that I am reading blindly, because I do not know which information they will cover in their lectures. Also have another question, my adviser told me that the tests are based on NCLEX questions, I was wondering ,other then just studying the information the instructor covers; also use my Comprenhensive NCLEX Review book and go to the section in the book that we are covering and study those questions out of the review book? Hello, I will also be attending CHSSON this September. From all the people I talked to from Previous schools and professors, Its a great school, I heard people studying for 3 or 4 hrs a night depending on the person. I was wondering your starting this Fall 09 . Would be awesome to get to know you since ill be attending this Fall also. I currently work in the ED as a Unit Clerk and im debating on how much hours to work, I believe the first year one can work part time like 20hrs a week or less. then the second year i heard it gets more time in the class room .
