  2. Baptist West is a zoo... totally mismanaged:monkeydance: and understaffed. ParkWest is great to work for but, the parking situation is unreal. (I would still be working for them if not for that very reason!) Methodist Medical in nearby Oak Ridge is the only union hospital within the Covenant Health System and is good to their employees. E.TN is a beautiful place to live. :)
  3. I've worked all shifts and my favorite is 7-3!! I'm lucky that I'm not doing 12hr shifts anymore; just too stressful and took all of my remaining days off to actually catch back up to feeling good enough to back in.
  4. Hey, I'm happy for you that the bigger earpieces helped you! I can remember being scared about the bp readings more than anything else when I was in training. It'll come to you, I promise! Practice, practice, practice -makes perfect. Practice on your family & friends all that you can. And, watch the video on blood pressure that's offered in this forum that EJM posted re: training videos for CNA's. It's great and gives you listening examples at the end of video. Good luck, but you'll do fine, I just know you will. :studyowl:
  5. I second that post on http://www.uniformadvantage.com. They have a wide selection and are very reasonable.
  6. I love how our charge nurse responds to that type of report, "In this hospital, all the patients are VIP's." And she's right. :yelclap:
  7. Had a sweet ederly lady as a patient recently admitted the other night to med/surg, (her room is nearby the nurses station) and as I was doing vitals on her, she had the tv tuned to CNN news channel watching coverage of the Michael Jackson case. The patient made a funny comment about Michael and his umbrella-toting man entering the courthouse to which I laughed. She turned off the tv when I finished with her and told me good night. About an hour later her call light goes on and there's a pitiful loud moaning coming from her room. I went and asked, "What's wrong?" She had a wild-eyed look on her face and said, "Honey, that thing's face gave me a nightmare, HE'S SCARY!" I asked, "Who's face?" The poor dear was actually trembling as she said, "Michael Jackson's face, ohh that scary face, promise me you'll leave my door open and leave the light on, PLEASE, I'm scared!!" I calmed her down and did as she asked. Back at the nurses station an rn asked me, "Why is that door now open and the lights on low?" When I explained to her, we both had to stifle ourselves.
  8. Hello, I've not posted in a while but am a frequent lurker I love this site and learn so much from all on board! I was wondering how many of y'all recognize those "two ol' panhandling women" on ER as former famous nurses?! :chuckle They are Louise Fletcher... the infamous nurse Ratched. I love her, thank goodness she didn't become a wax replica of herself like most actresses her age have by Hollywood plastic surgeons! Her "panhandling sister" is Pat Caroll who was the nurse in Romeo & Juliet on the Broadway stage for yrs. They've been on ER for the past several episodes and I hope there'll be a solution found for their situation. I'm rooting for 'em
  9. Today while you went about your everyday routine, Did you go to the bank or to an ATM? Did you buy gas? Did you drive pass a police officer who was using a radar detector? Did you talk on a cordless phone? Did you go to a convenience store? Did you go to a department store? Did you use a dressing room in a clothing store? Did you ride a city bus? Did you ride a subway? Did you go into an office building? Did you work on a computer network? Did you use a credit card or a shopper's discount card? Did you give out your Social Security number? Did you apply for a job? Did you drive through a toll booth? Did you call a customer service or technical support help line? Were you tested for drugs? if you answered yes to ANY of the above, you were under surveillance. Big Brother is here to stay.
  10. I work in ICU & one of my patients is a very nice woman in her early '60s. It's becoming a little unnerving for me to do patient care for her because even though she is as nice as can be, she is psychic and tells me things regarding my life that NO ONE else could possibly know. When I'm in her room, I don't ask her anything, she just begins telling me things about my past & present which are totally accurate! She's told me I'm picking a different future for myself by resisting a change that I'm deliberately avoiding. (Which happens to be TRUE.) When she asked me why was I resisting, I told her that I'm happy with my decision. She grinned & said, "Ok honey, we all have choices to make; that's what life here on Earth is all about, there's many a fork down the road." When I mentioned her psychic abilities to some of my co-workers, they told me, "Ask her for predictions about your future or get some winning lottery numbers from her." They're laughing it off as a big joke I guess, & they think I've gone delusional, for she doesn't talk in a psychic sense to anyone else that enters her room. I like this patient, but feel very freaked out when I'm around her. I'm a religious person and don't know quite how to take all of this. Please tell me I'm not alone...has anyone else encountered a psychic patient?
