  1. Don't be scared because if you are it will show. I too just obtained my CNA license and landed a job as a PCT in a hospital with no experience. I'm starting nursing school next year as well. Just focus on your enthusiasm to learn as much as you possibly can and your willingness to be a team player. Do a little research on the hospital as well, managers love it when you can relay facts about the facility. Like the previous poster said, dress well and bring a copy of your resume. If it's a team interview make sure when answering questions you make eye contact with both people, not just the person who asked you the question. I would follow up with a phone call a couple days later and a thank-you note a couple days after the phone call.
  2. @classykaren- yes they are going to train me. @flg8r- hillsborough.
  3. I'm so excited. I got a job offer today, at a hospital no less!!
  4. Hi everyone, I have a question. Did anyone take micro at PBCC online while taking the lab at another school? I'm in Tampa and I have no idea if they will let me enroll in just the online lecture or not. Insight? I'm a student now at HCC and they are sorta behind the times when it comes to offering science classes online....and the face to face instructors for micro are dreadful.
  5. So I went to Woodbridge in Tampa today. Asked about an application. The receptionist dragon denied me an application because I don't have a year experience in a nursing home. Now i'm really getting discouraged, and foreclosure looks more and more like a possibility!!
  6. WOW which hospital? I passed the test on July 23rd and still haven't found a job. It's getting scary now...my unemployment ran out a week and a half ago and i'm starting to get scared (house payments, etc...).
  7. Hey badphish. How was the online micro at SPC? I'm considering taking it next spring.
  8. Booke the 2 extra months is for people starting the programs in '10, not this August. Evidently the instructors have been trying to get this addition for a while. I'm a bit upset, however, that it is remaining 5 days a week rather than cut to 4. Most LPN programs that i'm aware of are Mon-Thurs. I'm rethinking my acceptance.
  9. Did anyone else get the letter in the mail stating the program is being extended from 12 to 14 months (the day program)? I emailed the advisor and she told me the only difference is the day will be a half hour shorter. I was hoping for a 4 day rather than 5 day week.
  10. I assume staying on topic is impossible on a website full of professionals. I too am curious about the job finding success of recently licensed CNAs.
  11. I took the Pinellas med-prep in Pinellas Park. IMO a waste of money. The "nurse" walked 10 people through the 21 skills and then basically went to play on the computer in a different room while we practiced. I couldn't attend a practice session due to car trouble and called to reschedule. Let's just say the epitome of white trash started screaming at me over the phone refusing to reschedule. I'm now working on a BBB complaint against them. I'm doing the Erwin tech LPN program in Tampa.
  12. CVICUismydream: 32 position, wow...but does that mean they are going to actually fill them, and don't they require 6 months to a year experience? flg8r36: My skills were range of motion (upper extremeties), catheter care, and urinary drain bag. I had 5 minutes left while I was cleaning the catheter supplies. I think I got through drain bag w/about 30 seconds remaining. Needless to say I was stressing while they were tallying the scores. I'm starting nursing school in March. Everything is happening so fast now!!!
  13. I passed the state CNA exam today. I must say, seeing difficulty in finding CNA work is really discouraging.
  14. 560 was the number of people that actually applied. I'm assuming fewer than that a few less (though not much less) showed up for the orientation, and even fewer showed up for the TEAS. When they announced in our orientation that there wasn't going to be a night class there was a lot of grumbling.
  15. Very cool...we March folk can use you as a resource for what to expect then. January was my 1st choice but March is fine. August was my 3rd choice....getting funding this soon would have been an issue. This gives me time to save money. How did you do on the TEAS? I scored a 79.4%.
  16. I wouldn't worry about being on the alternate list. They told us in orientation if you got placed on the list you'd most likely get in due to confirmed cancels.
  17. Since I got my 2nd choice and there are about 65 students per class, my lottery number must have been between 66 and 120.
  18. Congrats Stacey. I got my acceptance today from Erwins LPN program for March '10. Keep us posted on your progress. SPC is my 1st choice when i'm ready to bridge over in '11.
  19. Thanks. March is fine with me, as it gives me an extra couple of months to save money and an extra couple months to TRY to sell my condo....and then move back in with mom.
  20. WOOOHOOO. I received my acceptance postcard today. I got my 2nd choice, which is the March 2010 class.
  21. Yeah they did mention at orientation they were moving to the TEAS to better gauge applicants they felt would succeed in the program. I'm still irked that I didn't get at least an 80%...It's the OCD in me!!
  22. The school i'm applying to started using the TEAS for this coming class...so basically i'm the guinea pig group. I got a 79.4% which put me in the 88th percentile. I'll know around July 1 whether i'm in or not.
  23. I did really well on the Reading, 95% overall. On the English 85.5%. Too embarrased to mention the math and science. The four together averaged 79.4% which put me in the 88th percentile rank. Think about that for a moment....how badly did everyone else have to do for me to score that high in the percentile? SCARY!!! I don't know if the mean scores include the 8am test from just this morning (I hope it does). I tested on the 2nd and got my scores today.
  24. Well I got a 79.4% overall score on the TEAS. But the scary part is that was good enough to be in 88th percentile ranking of everyone who took it. Only 12% did better than 79.4!!!!
  25. At the beginning there was approx. 560 applicants. Anyone not showing up at the initial orientation was cut. I doubt, however that many people noshowed. The economy is forcing a lot of people to go back to school (me included).
