  1. Its not part of my belief system to degrade other people. What is there possibly to gain by keeping a new, or veteran nurse from succeeding? I like win/win.
  2. That hasn't been my experience. I'm glad for you that you had a positive experience with your Board. I probably shouldn't be posting on this particular board as my feelings about the Board are pretty negative. I do not want to discourage other new nurses from joining nursing. I have been a nurse a long time and its part of who I am. Even though I have major issues with the treatment of nurses, for the most part I am glad I could be of service to others in this way.
  3. Seriosuly, some people are not built to touch other people and may have adverse physiology to needles, blood and whatnot. Its all about finding your niche.
  4. I have way too many great Nursing stories to count. Despite the fact that I am leaving this field, I would encourage others to be in it. Just CYA, cause its going to continue to be a rough ride no matter how excellent your patient care is.
  5. There really is no wrong area to start with. Do what you like. Nursing ios exacting enough without being in an area you don't resonate with.
  6. Honestly I've never been burnt out in nursing. That is one of the perks: there is so much variety within Nursing that if you get bored or burnt out, you have noone else to blame but yourself! It is difficult to get a non-nursing job unless you have some other type of connection. For example, in the past I have wanted to work a place that is right down the road. I even told them I was willing to accept LPN pay becasue i was that interested. But, people assume there is somehtng "wrong" with a RN who will accept LPN pay, for whatever reason. So they did not hire me. Another time (different reasons) I applied for a Vet Tech position, and despite my large amount of experience working with all animals, having my own farm, etc etc. I was not offered the job. I'm in somewhat a delimma right now about the same thing. I have done other things besides Nursing. But Nursing is the bulk of my experience. The general Public who views Nursing as a handmaiden job that pays well cannot conceive why a RN would not want to be an RN any longer. So they assume something is "wrong" if the RN applies for a different type of job. But that won't keep me from proceeding. Because.....I am embarrased of this field!
  7. Thats the crux. Cellphones are not allowed, however you really can't prevent them from coming in and being used, unless we resort to frisking family members which of course we are not going to do. What makes me angry is that there is never any fore-warning. Its just Snap! and the photo is taken. I guess these people like shipping this all over the internet, "hey look at this nurse I had," or "hey, look what we are doing today, " or "hey, do you think this nurse did something illegal that I can sue for?" I do not believe anything can be done about this. Its going to be part of the Nature of The Beast.
  8. OMG- yet another reason this field is so embarrasing.
  9. You should never, never feel bad about calling pharmacy or any other resource to confirm safety. I usually use a software product that gives compatibilities. But in the past or in the future, I will call whoever I feel like to get answers. No question is a stupid question. The pharmacy is being paid to provide medications and information about them.
  10. Things like this are exactly why the normal, average nurse who is trying her/his best is treated like garbage.
  11. Anyone else sick of being blind-sided with having your photo taken by a family members cell-phone? I mean its all so nice and good that they like me and think I am cute. But how does that give them the right to snap my photo on the job? And what is wrong with people who think this is a normal thing to do in a hospital setting? :argue:
  12. I'm sorry Emmy, but your complaint is unrealistic in this day and time. As you said early in your pst, things are different in nursing (worse) and that applies in every other aspect of life as well. People are much more expendable, overall. It is a sad fact. But you can still get your needs met if yiou can accept this -life on life's terms- and work within it. Good luck to you and you GI Health!!
  13. Go ahead and Grandfather the ADN's. After that, make the ADN obsolete. Nursing should be entry-BSN. However. We are a bunch of sniveling catty B's. So we won't ever repair anything, we will just continue to cut each other apart. We don't have the ability to operate in a functionable manner.
  14. In my work, I have gotten to the point where my only concerns are giving exceptional patient care and getting my paycheck. Thats my subjective daily experience. But the objective part of me says this "profession" is utter BS. I do believe there is are two types of basic personalities that end up in Nursing (aside from those who do it soley for the money, and they usually don't stay long.) I won't address the codependent type. I believe most of us are truely born to serve others when they are at their worst because we have the inate ability to do that. Even when I do leave this field, I am sure I will be doing some work of service, because that is who I am. But I don't fit well into the codependent mindset. And thats where Nursing wants to shove me.
  15. Nurses are treated as subhumans. Thats why this field is so embarrasing. :bowingpur
