  1. Yes, it is possible. Per-Diem nurse make that much, but w/o benefits.
  2. Gee, I don't know if this experience is sort of language abuse and physical abuse because she threw sponge with blood on you and yell at everyone. I think it is. I am sorry to hear that. I will follow the chain of command and report this incident in writing and demand hospital administration to handle this case properly. Meanwhile, I will find a good lawyer or legal expert in labor safety and working right for possible legal pursuit.
  3. Don't just change the job. We need to make the Nurse and Patient Ratio Law happen. If there is not Nurse and Patient Ratio Law, it is legal to assign you as many as the hospital administration want in any hospital of your State. Find out if your State Board or Nursing organization has the plan and movement. Join them and make the change. Or move to California because California is the only State in the United States has Nurse and Patient Ratio Law. However, the hospital might change their hiring method to go along with the law - Per Diem.
  4. What school you are in? Which state you are in? In California, I attended Santa Monica College and College of the Desert. Both colleges offered medical terminology class for nursing or non-nursing student. It is not part of RN program, but the school recommends you to take it before apply the RN program. I am not agreed with the expectation that nurses should be able to pick up information or terms not familiar without proper training. Also not just medical terminology class, you should also take ECG reading class. It will help you a lot in the ICU and ER unit of study.
  5. I believe charge nurse should have over years of experience. One year is too less. Nothing personal. But, maybe you should ask yourself and other nurses in the unit. Why no one in the unit apply that position? Or none of nurse in your unit get the position?
