  1. I have some comforting words for you. I had my 1st rotation in school in a long acute care setting and I did not like it at ALL! Seems like all we did was what you described. But then the following rotations were done at the main hospital. Yeah students are dumped on all the crap cleaning and seems like thats all you do. I'm not saying in the real RN world you never do that, you do (I do!) and I don't mind but that's usually the aides job (and if not AGAIN I'LL say I don't mind it) but your focus is meds, care plan and pain management. So yes it gets better!!! :) I've been in my new med-surg RN job for 3 months and happy
  2. Your right...I hope I can make that difference. :)
  3. We were allowed to pick our own. The best advice is "Word of mouth". Ask previous students or RNs who they recommend, they do it for a reason :) Good Luck and don't forget, think of it as a job. You need those letters of reference when you are done :)
  4. I work on a Renal Floor and A LOT of our patients are like that! I'm a new grad and I didn't see myself dealing with so many incompliant, demanding patients. That is the worst thing about my job.
  5. What a great nurse you are. A true patients advocate :)
  6. I am a new grad that was blessed beyond means for getting this job. I work on a renal floor and while I love the nursing part of it, it's so different in that i'll rarely get to see them get better, do to their non-compliance and these people if they do leave, come right back. I wanted to see patients get well and be discharged, have a thing or two wrong unlike renal where everythings wrong. I'm already thinking, is this floor for me? What's my purpose if they don't listen anyway and end up coming back.
