  1. Hi, I also was accepted to start BSU for my MSN/NP in August. I am so excited, however when you think about the sacrafices time wise and not to mention money; will it be worth it in the long run. When I finish and start as a NP I will be making approx. only 10,000 more than I am presently as a RN. Financially is it worth it! For my MSN/FP it will cost me 23,000, thats alot of money for an RN to pay back. How about it? Any FNP out there who can tell me it is financially worth it, and worth all the time we put into becoming one.
  2. Hi, I have been a RN for 20 years. I was recently accepted to start BSU for my masters/FNP this august. Any words of wisdom or ideas that would help me with my future as a nurse prac.
  3. Hi,I am an RN in Oklahoma; which is not a compact state. I am considering travel nursing, is there any way to get around paying for each compact state individually other than moving to one of those states. I'm not sure why oklahoma is not participating at this time other than possibly some states do not require criminal background checks. I wish we would all get on the same page and quit making the lifes of nurses difficult
  4. Interleukin I agree totally with you! Nurses have been silent for way to long and it is time to stand up for ourselves and our patients. Just remember to have your ducks in a row when you go to the director and collect yourself first, calm down before speaking up. Clear and concise is right. And if all fells their is tons of nursing jobs out there just begging for a new nurse. NURSES ROCK!!!!
  5. Don't give up!!! The hardest job you will ever do is be a mother. I know I am a mother of 5 grown children, it is still hard even though they are grown and on their own, well some always come back for a while. I have also been an RN for a little over 20 years. I recently went back and obtained my BSN and will start in august for my masters of nursing to FNP. Nursing school is hard, but just like of it this way it is just another hoop to jump through. It takes hard work, effort and lots of study time, but nothing you can't do if you really want it just let your desire take over, put the pedal to the medal and concentrate on the future it will be there before you know it.YOU CAN DO IT!!!! We need more nurses the US is almost 1 million nurses short, a guaranteed job and future for you and your kids:heartbeat
  6. Does anyone else out there have problems with their house supervisor. I work ICU and our house supervisor thinks we are here to supply the rest of the hospital when they are short. NO RESPECT!!!!! When we are pulled she is not even courteous enough to ask us face to face, she calls our clerk and tells him to tell us to go to ER or where ever.Again, NO RESPECT!!!!!
  7. Thanks for your support! I just may come to california, I plan to start traveling the first part of october. What really chaps me is that it will take a patient dying before things are changed. I think we are the only hospital in the US that places patients on ventilators and does not have RT to help care for them. If there is anyone else on this planet in my situation I would like to know who. By the way how is it to work in california? Do they really stick to the correct nurse-patient-ratio. I also heard you actually get lunch breaks and get to leave your area, are these just really nice rumors or are they true. I understand california has paved the way for nurses, We need to unite and stand up for our rights the way you have.
  8. Hi Liz, I know who you are we work in the same hospital. I am working in ICU right now. Guess who I am. Oh by the way welcome, I really enjoyed working with you in ICU recently.
  9. Hi Betty I also live in tahlequah and work in tahlequah. We are the same age. I rased 5 kids, 3 girls and 2 boys. I am going back to school this fall for my masters in nursing and then FNP. I plan on traveling soon, I want to see the country.
  10. Hi, My name is JoAnn and all 5 of my kids are grown, I have 4 grandkids and 1 on the way. I am an ICU/ER nurse that presently works in Tahlequah, Ok, however I have made a decision to do travel nursing starting in October. I also was just accepted into Ball state University online masters to FNP track and will start this august and hopefully graduate in three years. I am very excited!!!!! Nursing is a great career! I really feel that nurses need to unite together stand up for each other and help each other out. Nursing is one of the largest occupations in the united states and there is no reason why we can not set our own limits and call our own shots, instead of having others tell us what schedule we have to work and if we can take off for a holiday to be with our loved ones. It is time for nurses to take control of the profession. We have so many oppurtunities out there, the world is waiting.
  11. What about travel assignments in OKC? How is the pay and housing compared to other cities. Are the okc hospitals traveler friendly? What are some good travel agencies to go with for the oklahoma area?
  12. The Icu I work at has the same problem. We keep patients way to long. Sometimes we even have bariatric patients transfered to ICU because they take to much time and back muscles for the floor nurses, what a waste of bed and education. I have never worked an ICU that is such a step child. The housesupervisors will not let us move one out to the floor when they have orders to move until med/surg is ready or until it is an emergency and we have to so we can receive another. I get so tired of being taken advantage of and playing all of the games people play.
  13. Get this! Where I work in ICU the nurses are respiratory therapy. The nurses set up and maintain all ventilators with no respiratory backup, the hospital does not see a need for a respiratory department, the nurses can do all that a respiratory therapist does, per my hospital. We also set up and maintain bipap machines. I got online with my nursing board in oklahoma and basically we are practicing beyond our scope of practice. In our ICU there is only 2 RN's and a clerk to 6 patients. No aide to help, not even a lift in the hospital to help lift large patients, which we have a large population of bariatric patients. Nursing always gets dumped on!!
