I do know in CA if you accept the keys your responsible, you finish your shift and go home . If you call in sick over the weekend that is not job abandonment YOUR SICK. The other Nurse left you knowing it was unsafe and she should take responsibility for that action. When staffing is that bad I call the DON and DSD and make them come in, if not I will call the administrator and the state immediately and tell them whats going on and refuse to work in conditions like that but stay there and do your best, but DO NOT LEAVE YOU WILL have your license in jeporady. Its Unfair to the resident and yourself these human beings are so vulnerable. Very DANGEROUS. Believe me I would call and get them in there right now. If you continue to allow this they will expect it and take advantage of you. Your the patient advocate. :angryfire I feel for you. Good Luck, they were lucky you were on that night.

Asisted living or Long term care. Thats about it. Thats where they are utilized. Also Wound Care consultants.

Long term NO. CA 28-33.00an hour. So CA 21-25.00 an hour

This wont last long, they tried this in the 80's. Hospitals went bankrupt. I give it a few more years. LVN's can do alot. They should be utilized. I have been very fortunate.

I Quit a Assisted living postion, simply I was so stressed I forgot what year I was born and could not rememeber my age. I walked into a real mess the care givers off the street and passing MEDS. One error after another. The Charts were not audited and 4 years behind. New move in assesments and reassesments had to be done. Being on call 24/7 and being told I had to work as a caregiver 15 hours a week, plus my job. Staffing and scheduling .All the inservices, then Dementia Nurse quit and I had her JOB on top of that. I just could not do it. too much. I was the 11th Nurse in 1 year. They wined and dined me to get me I relocated. To start there. Never again It left a bad image for me. So forget assisted living or is it:sniff: this company?? Are they all like this???? Any one work for Merrill Gardens????

I am an LVN , in Ca over 30 years 25 in ER and ICU. Now LTC all by choice. Nursing is very hard and you do have to love it . May I suggest become an esthician, they make loads of money and youwill be helping people feel good about themselves . Its realively new , and in demand . Being an RN will double your income and no bedside Nursing.:typing

I have to answer this one. I have been a LVN in Ca for over 30 years, my choice. I have worked in every department except LD. I choose now towards the end of my career to work in SNF. My choice, it seems to me that every where there is DRAMA. Every day you get up you show up for your shift and there is a call off then tonques start, no one has nothing nice to say. Or a another nurse having a hard time at home and she brings her/his baggage. Think about it we are emotionally, spiritually and physically depleted. So It seems some people cannot handle it all. In these times as LVN's and RN's we are in demand and will always have JOB. We are very lucky. Thats what gets me thru the day and I hope I made a difference.
