  1. 1st I would set the machine temp to 35.5 or even 35,,is there na modeling set? A UF profile? Those things along with increasing the EDW should help BP drop,,,now for the URR what size dialyzer? Sounds like the dialyzer needs to be 180 or 200 or pt needs 4:15hr tx? Good Luck!!
  2. I was a rehab nurse for 15+ yrs on nite shift then decided to go into dialysis. I switched to the 12n-12am shift. (hospital based chronic unit) and was on orientation for 3 mos. I felt like I had made the biggest mistake of my life!! I went from being an expert in my field to being a complete novice!! It was very difficult to go from being the one everyone came to for help and info to being a student again,,,,and then one day it clicked and now I couldn't imagine working in the hospital ever again!!! I have Sundays and Holidays off!!!! How many nurses can say that?!? I don't have to deal with bedpans and callbells!!! Yes, Hemo pts can be tough but they are also wonderful, caring interesting individuals!! Even the angry beligerent ones! Switching to Dialysis was one of the best decisions I have ever made!!!
  3. FMS FMC???? What do they stand for? As for the Lido,,we had 3 pts code and die within a few min of eachother about 18yrs ago from the lido,,miss read bottles in the unit,,thought it was heparin,,so I'm told,,I was in Nsg school when it happened,,made me scared to go into hemo!! Now nothing but EMLA
  4. Only in very serious instances,,codes mainly are they touched by any but hemo. That said,,you have to be very clean about opening it and pull at least 2cc of blood from it before using d/t the heparing dwelling in it, After using just make sure it is flushed with nss and relocked with the proper heparin soln (depends on the facility)
  5. My techs are wonderful anyway,,,
  6. You mean to tell me you are covering 20 pts on a team? We do a max of 12 and that gets tough!! It sounds very unsafe I know the techs are wonderful but your license is on the line!! As for the other nurses not helping you,,,you need to have a chat with them,,pt safety comes first!! No other centers you could work at? This place sounds like a pit!!
