I just started NGCSU's nursing program. Here is what I know from going through this process last year. I have a bachelors from 94. My cumulative gpa from back then was just a 3.2 (I was not taking things very seriously back then). Last year I took A&P I and II, and micro and made A's in all three. On my first and only attempt at the TEAS, I made an 86.6. I was worried that was not going to be good enough, but I talked with the dept secretary, and she said that was a competitive score. I took it on the last day before the admission's deadline, so I did not have the choice of retaking it. When they look at the scores of the individual sections, they are only looking at the reading, math, and science sections. They do not consider the english at all. I was relieved to hear that, because that was my lowest scoring section! I do not know exactly how they consider everything, if it's a point system, or what. They do not (at least not up to last year) require an interview or essay. A far as I know, the info I listed is all they had to go on about me, and I was a part of the first acceptance decisions in early February. It's a great program. I am working hard and overwhelmed at times, but I am enjoying it! Good luck!

Jackie, Sorry I can't help, I am starting the regular asn program in gainesville this fall. NG is doing a mentor program for us, a second year student contacted me and has given me a lot of good info. As part of the bridge, do you take a summer class and then in the fall just start the second year of the asn program, or do you have a completely different program? Good luck to you!

Hi mlvangil, I am also starting the nursing program this fall. I will be at the Gainesville campus. You said you already got some of the textbooks, how did you find out what is required? I can't find anything on the school's website. I would love to have something to read to get a little bit of a head start! Thanks!

I just got my acceptance letter too! Now I don't know what to do because I was also accepted to North Georgia College's nursing program. They have a satellite campus at Gainesville college that is much closer to me than Athens Tech. However, NGCSU costs twice as much. This is a big deal to me because we are paying for it out of pocket. I already have a bachelors degree and I do not qualify for any financial aid. I could only try to find private student loans. If I was going for a masters degree, I would get financial aid! Where are you taking classes for the BSN? I would only need to take the two chemistry classes to start a BSN program. I'm wondering if I should have done that, but I didn't want to drive downtown to Georgia State and there is no way we could afford the private schools like Brenau and Georgia Baptist. I don't know what to do at this point!!!!! But, a BIG Congratulations to you for getting in!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I will see you at the orientation on May 18th!!

I have everything else completed, so I am just enjoying my break until the nursing classes start in the fall. I really wanted to go to that meeting on Monday too, but we will be out of town for the kids spring break. It was definitly short notice. I have been looking online for a cpr class. Zookeeper--you said you're renewing? Did you originally take it in the Atlanta area? There is a class convenient for me through Georgia CPR LLC in Decatur. They are not one of the three on the list we got, but they are AHA. I'm hesitant to just sign up when I don't know anything about them.

zookeeper44- Hey! I am going to be at the Gainesville campus too. I just turned 37 this week, I plan to be an RN before I'm forty! This will be my second degree. I have two kids and have been a SAHM for the last 9 years. I felt like I was back in college again when I went to Dahlonega for the TEAS! Though, I have read in previous posts that the Gainesville campus does have mostly students with lots of life experience! Congratulations to you--and to you too 650vstar! Thanks for the info monicabw. I'm definitly going to stick with North Georgia. I have just heard nothing but positive things about NG. Looks like I will start applying for those private loans!

Thanks so much for your reply! I was worried about my gpa- I took the english and college algebra 18 years ago when I was in college the first time. I made a C and a B. This past year I took the three sciences and made all As, so my gpa is a 3.4. I did make a 98 on the nln, so maybe that will help. Your comments bother me though. I can't believe more than half of your class is gone! Sounds like what I have heard about Georgia Perimeter. Is it mostly because of people failing out? I have already been accepted at North Georgia for this fall. That is really where I want to go, but Athens is so much cheaper. I don't qualify for financial aid (I already have a BA), so we're paying out of pocket as I go. If I don't get in at Athens, I won't have to worry about it though!

I was excited too, now I'm the only Gainesville one so far! Keeping in touch and sharing info sounds good to me. Looking at the posts from a couple of years back, I guess we are going to have a lot to get done- uniforms, stethocope, books, CPR cert, and that I Can camp I read about. I guess we'll get our info soon, i am just getting ahead of myself! That's great you were a science major! I was social work, but I had nursing in mind even back then. I never thought I could do the sciences though, and I probably would not have done well back then! After being a SAHM for getting close to ten years, my brain was ready for something other than kids and I have made all A's in the sciences! I am so ready for this. Oh, and forget the now what? from my first post here- Even if I get in at Athens Tech, there are just too many good reasons to choose NG!

Oh, you're right, the Lanier campus is at Lanier Tech in Cumming. For the longest time I thought the Gainesville campus met at Lanier Tech but I recently found out it meets at Gainesville college- both in Oakwood. So when you said Lanier I was thinking Gainesville, where I will be. Have you finished retaking the sciences? Does NGCSU also require you to retake them all? I finished A&P I and II last year and I will be done with micro next month. Do you have the rest of the core done? I just still need a foreign language (I didn't take that, or any worthwhile sciences, my first time in school) and the leadership class. I was going to try to go ahead and get the foreign language out of the way this summer. I hope to get that done and still have some time to relax and have some fun too before August gets here!!

The Lanier campus is where I will be! I say Gainesville, it's actually in Oakwood. I wouldn't be of much help in getting you there from Fayetteville though! I have obsessively been reading all the old threads on NGCSU! It seems like in the first year we will just have two days a week that we will go to class and/or clinicals and then in the second year it will be three days. So at least you would not have to drive all that way every day of the week. Have you already heard from Gordon and Georgia Highlands? Are you definitly going to choose NGCSU? Katie

At the school I applied to they look at your overall score, but individually they only consider your Reading, Math and Science subscores. That was good for me because my lowest score was in the English section. I had the most trouble with the commas, colons, semicolons!

Thanks! I am really excited! I feel like a weight has been lifted, knowing that I can start this fall. I was completely surprised, I didn't expect to hear anything until after April 1. I'm doing the regular RN program. I believe I was told they accept either 150 or 170 and they got 700-800 applicants. I don't know how that works with the bridge program though- if those numbers include both types of applicants or if the bridge is separate from that. I know that includes about 40 for the Gainesville campus, about 40 for the campus on the Cobb side of town and the rest in Dahlonega. Good luck to you! Katie

I am so excited, I just got my letter today from NGCSU! I was completely shocked to get it today- I had been told letters wouldn't go out until April 1 or later. I have to accept or decline the spot by Feb 27. I also applied to Athens Tech and they are not making decisions until April. Obviously, I don't want to give up my spot at NG, not knowing if I will get in ATC. I thought I preferred ATC because it is cheaper. I have a BA already and I know if I qualify for any financial aid it will only be loans. I have been paying out of pocket for my prereqs and we could probably keep doing that at ATC, but probably not at NG. Also, the gainesville campus for NG is 18 miles for me, while the ATC is 44 miles. I have a lot of thinking to do-- does anyone have any advice??

Goldie798 I am always telling my kids to work hard in school too! They think it's great that I am in school like them. I think it's great that they are seeing how important it is and how hard I work; instead of just listening to me tell them how hard they need to work! Well, that makes me a little nervous. I started taking the science prereqs last summer and I have made A's in A&P 1 and 2 and currently have an A in micro. But, I have a C in english and a B in college algebra from 18-19 years ago when I got my first degree. I was not a serious student back then! That gives me only a 3.4. Hopefully with my 98 on the nln I will still make the cut! But I am completely with you, God has a plan for me, and what is meant to be will be! It sounds like you will be fine, but I'll keep you in my prayers, and hopefully we'll both be there Fall 09!

This thread is older-- Does anyone happen to know more recent statistics on the GPA/NLN scores you need to get in the Athens Tech program??

Goldie798- I am applying to Athens Tech for Fall 2009. I took the NLN on 1/12. My scores are similar to yours. I got 51/60 verbal, 38/40 math and 44/60 science. My composite was 146 and 98%. I was told they take your gpa on the five classes required to apply and your nln score (I'm not sure whether or not they are weighted equally, or if one is worth more than the other) and the top 50 are accepted. I saw the list of scores of those accepted last fall and I think all of them scored 99 or 98. There may have been some 96 and 97 scores, but there were a lot of 98--99 and that is what stood out to me. I'm just hoping there aren't 50 other applicants with 99's!

The AHS classes do not transfer to other schools and they won't count for the college-level classes needed for an associates or bachelors. They only apply towards the technical school career programs (like lpn, medical asst, surgical tech). I have a friend that recently finished the lpn at Lanier Tech and she is now working on her prereqs to apply to the North Ga bridge program. She still has to take all the same classes I do (a&p 1 and 2, microbiology, etc) but she will not have to take the first year (or at least not the first semester) of the nursing courses.

Is the science section of the teas very involved? I didn't take the act, only the sat and that was almost 20 years ago! What has been your experience with nga admission process? Are you trying for admission next fall? From my info sheet for Gwinnett techs entrance exam-- the hesi is now the Evolve Reach A2 test through Elsevier publishing.
