Delegation Situation
I completely agree with stephRn08. This is putting patients safety at risk. Definately put your concerns in writing to the delegating official as stephRn08 suggests. I wish you all the best.carol, RN07

Terminated without warning
thanks for your replies....i wish i knew this before. i started to suspect something was up when she started to talk about the other facility needs a don and said "not that im trying to get rid of you or anything" a few weeks ago. then when i was moved up front in that little office, i felt offended. but, i did not complain because i did not want to lose my job. it was her idea to move me there. then one week ago, she yelled at me 3 times in front of everyone. i was ready to leave that day...i came in the following monday and she was all of a sudden on vacation until friday. then on friday in our standup she made suggestions to move medical records to the linen closet so the don could be alone in that office, i knew she had one of her buddies in mind. and she could not let her buddy put up with getting bumped into every few minutes. she also is moving everyone from the other office to another closet and make that office to an employee break room....and the admin completely went along with all of it. then at the end of the day he called me to his office and said that i have one week of probation left and this is not working out and here is your check. i never had any complaints or warnings.....i worked very hard, stayed very late daily, and did everything asked of me......i feel so stupid and worthless.

Terminated without warning
i had a very similiar experience...i have been in ltc for 10yrs and have been an rn for 2yrs. i was hired 3mos ago as don in a small facility. the previos don wanted to be the mds so she could work p.t. to spend time traveling with her retired husband. the admin. new me and called me for the position. he knew i have no experience as a don. anyways, as it turns out...he has no backbone, the mds/prior don runs the place and everything she says goes. the first 2 or 3 weeks were fine, but then i started to feel like she didn't want me there. she kept changing things...she would show me something one day and say that i need to do it. then a week later she would say that the medical records person should do it, then the following week she would say the nurses should do it. nontheless, i tried to keep up with the constant changes. then, she had me moved out of the office so she could have her space back, i was crammed into a small office with medical records. the office was originally a tub room. in there we could barely fit the two chart racks on one wall (one of the racks was behind the door) and on the other wall was our desks. i was constantly getting banged by people coming in and out to get to the charts. my back has been killing me. then without any complaints or warnings i was let go. i know that she wants to bring in one of her friends from her other job ( she has been working at another place for about a month, instead of traveling) and she decided she wants one of her friends to be the don. and since the admin has no backbone and she is always making me look bad, he believed her.

Instructor reamed me even though nurse said I did right thing..what do you think?
i think you did a great job...you did reposition the pt., checked the o2 tubing to make sure it was not kinked, and you checked the o2 sat. and, yes you should not have left the pt. to get help...but, you acted quickly to get the help she needed. and, you could have been getting the rr and listen to her lungs quickly after notifying her nurse. but, it is not your fault she went back to ccu. i agree with the others, you need to stay out of the instructor's way for the rest of the semester. you have what it takes to be a great nurse...good luck to you.

What to do
Hi, I read your post....I cannot believe what I just read. That daughter is the most inconsiderate, selfish person I ever heard of. Absolutely, I would call social services....the kids should not be there in the first place (they were under 12), the charge nurse gave her 2 minutes. But, when the daughter started yelling at her mom, the critically ill patient, she should have thrown her out!!! If that didn't work, then she should have called security to escort her out. The house supervisor should have been informed immediately as well. The daughter needed to be informed not to bring in children and that she would not be allowed to visit if she could not control her temper......of course this is in my opinion.

Funny things that pts say
I work the night shift in a long term care center....the CNA asked her pt." Mrs. C. did you have a bm today?" Mrs. C. replied "yes I did". Then the CNA asked "was it small, medium or large?" Mrs. C. replied "well I don't know honey, I didn't measure it. It was about this big" (as she held up her hands to show how big it was). I just about lost it....it was so funny. :chuckle

Let's introduce ourselves...
Hi everyone, My name is Carol. I graduated in March 07. I passed the boards in Oct 07 on the first try at 75 questions. I have been working in long term care since then. I am hoping to go back to acute care early next year, I was an LVN for 20 years and worked acute care the first 12 years of my career. I love being a nurse....but, I too have a problem with the co-workers...they can be very mean and rude. The turnover rate is great here too. All the nurses at my facility have been there less than 1yr. I am looking forward to the new year.....

Rue Education for RN and getting to sit for RN State Boards
Hi everyone, I have completed the ADN through EC and have passed the boards. I am going to go on for my BSN. Anyways, I too am a victim of a publishing company. I did not know better at the time, I ended up paying over $5,000 and I did not get all the books I was supposed to get. The reason was because I had my monthly payments set up through my bank to them automatically....and after a year or so something went wrong and a couple of payments were not made. I immediately started sending payments to catch up...but, those payments were never credited to my account with them, they ended up garnishing my wages....at the time, I was on NC2. So, by then I learned I could buy the same studyguides off of E-Bay. And that's where I bought the rest of my studyguides. And finished paying the publishing company. So, please do your research first. Do not get stuck in one of these contracts. This time around, I am getting all my studyguides and books off of E-Bay for the BSN. Hope this helps.

Depressed RN
I'm having the same problem. I'm from the bay area, moved to the central valley 8 yrs ago. I was an LVN, now I have my RN license. I have applied everywhere, no luck with the hospitals in my area. The only offer I have had is from a traveling nurse agency, which I have applied for...it's been a very long process though....I have filled out two packets of paperwork and the online application....still waiting to start working as an RN.
