Hi, What are my career options in the field of nursing that isn't at the bedside/floor? Esp for someone who only has 1.5 years of experience (& their BSN) at the moment? I worked for 1 year at a large acute care teaching hospital on tele step-down/ICU. I am not at another teaching facility in the Surgical Care floor - trying to get 2 full years of experience. Did some basic research, and at this point, I don't qualify for much beyond the bedside. (Case management...? ER...? Ambulatory care...?) Also, I would like to work in CA How long did you last in your first new grad job and what are you doing now?

This thread might be dead. But, as a current student, I don't recommend this program. It should be last on your list, and a back-up if anything.

Forgot: Does anyone know how many were accepted? And how big they expect the class size to be? Or the clinical/lecture instructor to student ratio? Thanks!!

Thanks guiltysins. By the 18 month program, you mean the 15 month program right? Or are they separate programs? Would you or anyone else know where the clinical sites are? And if there are education abroad opportunities? Oh, and scholarships/ grants from NYU? I'm waiting for a call back from NYU. Theres so little info on their website!

Whoa. So much is going on. Anyway. I looked @ both the postings for the two places, they look really really nice. I'm fine with either as long as its within my price range: max $900-ish (rent+ all utl.). Oh, and I dont mind having a few dogs around--I'd consider that a plus...as long as they dont puke in my room. What about furniture though ladies? Are we just going to buy/get it off of Craigslist or something? (I can't afford to buy all new stuff) I also added some of you guys on FB. Since we can't really talk about certain things here. Feel free to email/PM/ add me on FB too. I joined the FB group.

Allimar--I'm doing a combo of everything. I dont want one giant loan where the interest payments will accrue to $20k in a few years. I'm working on the stupid CSS profile thing so I can get a finaid package from GU. Do apply for a FAFSA right now, if you havent already. And look around for some scholarships, works esp well if youre an ethnic minority. I plan on applying to some soon. I'll post what I know here...I found some in the Peterson's book, dont have that with me now. I've heard of ppl paying for their BSN with just scholarships (altho theirs was much much cheaper than ours). No worries!

Nice price!! Same here: I'd love to walk to classes too. I'm sick of living like a poor college student, esp. since I feel all old. But my budget leaves me little choice. So excited to be moving though I probably can't get there until 1/6 though.

My facebook is always so slow. Cant find the group for some reason. I'll try again later. I think living together to save money is a very good idea. Ideally, I'd like to live within walking distance to the school...but I wouldnt mind living on some kinda of metro line so I can get there fast. I dont want more than half an hours commute though. I wont be able to bring any furniture too. I'm totally serious about the program, but pretty social and outgoing. I like a balance. I was browsing on Craigslist and found some place in Georgetown for free....but you have to be "the boss" of the house...sounds like some shady S&M thing. Too good to be true. But free rent is just so tempting! My price range is around $600-900 (rent + all utilities).

Should I book a flight for 12/15 or 1/6?

WLJ: since we're both from Cali, wana find a place together too? I foresee that I'll need a fellow Californian around so I wont feel too out of place. PM me ladies, and we can start looking for something. Just to warn you, I am super poor and on a very tight budget though. I also want to live close to campus. Can you believe that the CSS profile actually costs money to apply to? Its a financial aid application! I'm applying because I need money and dont have money! Oh and BeachIt, I think it largely depends on how much of a good fit you are with the school. Although I was also asked about my EMT experience. Keep on it, dont let this one rejection get you down. I was rejected by many-a-school. Plus, theres always Fall to look forward to.

I love to be outdoors too---the Potomac River is very beautiful and right out the door from GU. WLJ-- I think the $70k tuition is a lot for this program. There are other great programs out there that cost way less. And D.C. has a very high cost of living too...esp the high rent. I havent gotten in anywhere else yet, but I'm still waiting. I would really love to go to Duke. Though I think I would really grow into D.C., and I would probably enjoy GU too. The programs not bad, its just pricey--like the area/city its in. I'm applying to the scholarship either way, but committing 4 years is a llooooonngg time. A bit suffocating to think of. I'm in the Bay Area, close to S.F. Maybe we could all house hunt together!

I'll be moving from CA too! I totally need to apartment hunt. I stayed at the Holiday Inn which is across the bridge/river from Georgetown, wasnt too bad--good hike. I'd consider Arlington if its cheaper. On a budget. Just totally unfamiliar with the area. Probably not going to bring a car, Metro didnt seem too bad--kinda expensive though. Btw, the WHC scholarship deadline has been moved to 10/9. I plan on submitting mine tomorrow. I dont know if I'll be attending, but so far I'm leaning towards yes. Shrug. Any advice?? So hard to make this decision.

WLJ2009- Just wondering, did you take the Loudoun County Commuter Bus from Dulles to your hotel/Georgetown (from Google maps)? I want to take some sort of public transportation, but not sure what/when.

Its a group interview? Ick. How many ppl were interviewed at once? I totally prefer 1-on-1 meetings. And don't worry, theres only like 3 weeks left. That will fly by so fast, by the time yall know it, it'll be snowing. Though not where I live.

Good luck ppl going tomorrow and next Tuesday :-) OK no heels. I'll definitely be doing a lot of walking. What I'm wearing will depend entirely on the weather. I just checked todays and its pretty humid and sunny. I don't wana be sweating balls when I go in to interview, but I would like to err on the side of being over dressed. Some nice slacks, and a decent blouse with short jacket. Unless it rains...oh I don't know.

As long as theyre all done before classes begin, youre totally fine. Allimar87--please let us know how the interview goes. I'm esp. curious about what everone will be wearing. And the weather...won't it be humid there? I'll have to look that up before going over. Are you ladies wearing heels too? There's going to be tours the whole morning. I have a feeling that we might be interviewed with a bunch of faculty and an admissions officer...or maybe I read that somewhere. Looking forward to meeting some of you there! Keep us posted!

I got one too. This is turning out to be a very expensive interview. Wishing I had done it earlier. Anyone else scheduled for Oct 3rd with me?

When I signed up there were 3 interview days. One day each week for 3 weeks. (Not that many) Anyway thanks naptownlaxer. Do you (or anyone else) know about how many spots there are? (That determines how competitive the scholarship is.) I'm trying to decide if its worth it...if I could make more money in 3 years instead....or if I can even find a job...

Did you book a hotel/hostel too? I'm thinking maybe booking the flight + hotel would be cheaper? But I duno the area, so not sure.
