Hey, rrockstar88 I am a new grad and just got hired on at an IHS facility. I graduated in June and started to aggressively apply in October. It took a while but I finally got a phone interview and was hired, well conditionally. I have to pass all the required federal background and finger print checks. Just keep applying on usajobs.gov, I hear the OK IHS really needs nurses, they called after I had already started the process with Navajo facility. It takes a while to hear back once an application is submitted.

They do hire new grads, I graduated in June and just now (maybe) got hired with IHS. It takes forever!!! Now is a good time to apply tho b/c the new fiscal year just started in October. I will be living off rez, so hopefully there won't be any problems with housing. From what I have heard most NA are thankful for the service that nurses provide, but of course I do not yet have experience.

Hi Scott, Thanks for answering! I think I will be working there, so I am trying to find a place to live right now. I am thinking Cortez, CO but am having trouble finding places for rent. How is the drive to the hospital? Are the roads good/bad, does it snow alot? Thanks for any info! :D

I am moving from the Denver metro area, CO so i know snow :) And you made me laugh about saying that the mountains are on the east, b/c I truly do navigate by where the mountains are, always on the west tho that is going to be hard to get used to.

Nice, do you mind me asking what unit you will be working on?

Bortaz, RN Thanks for responding! I have a phone interview for PICU and was wondering if they have some sort of orientation for new grad. I mean, they have to right, hopefully! Also, would it be possible to live in the area around south padre island? Is that a better place to live than Edinburg?

hello, I took the Hurst review and when I first started studying I took the practice exam and got 50% then reviewed everything and took another practice test and got a 60%. I only took 2, always meaning to do more but didn't have time. I passed NCLEX with 88ish questions.

THanks for the congrats Everyone!!!! I started studying for real about 7/11, with 3-4 days where I didn't do much. My school paid for the live Hurst review the wk before we graduated (June 17th) so I started by re-reading out loud to myself the review book and recording myself to listen to while I was driving. Then I ordered the Kaplan and LaCharity books. I did all the chapter quizes in Kaplan and then the practice test on the CD (61%). Then I started the prioritization book the last 3days before my test. Let me tell you, the LaCharity book was the most helpful. While I agree that you do have to know core content, the NCLEX is not about just knowing nursing core content. It really is how you use that core content to make decisions. So, if you can recognize that some diseases/symptoms/labs are wacky or worse than others then you are good to go. The NCLEX: the bulk of my test was about prioritization and putting tasks in order and choosing which pt to see first. The entire test I felt like I was making wrong choices but I kept moving forward and just focused on the question at hand. I can honestly say that I am no expert on nursing core content, I feel like I know enough to distinguish between certain diseases, symptoms and when labs are off. A lot of the test was about judgement, which is something very difficult to study for because really all the choices were very reasonable. So, the LaCharity book was helpful b/c, really no matter what the subject was it helps you recognize the right answer. At times I felt like the LaCharity book was repetitive, but that is probably what trained to me answer the questions a certain way. Also one last thing, when I had no idea what the question was asking , either b/c it was a drug that I never heard of (and by the way, none of the drugs that i got were anything I ever heard of, so I am glad I didn't spend time studying drugs) or b/c it was a symptom or disease I wasn't familiar with, I looked at the answers and eliminated the ones that I know were symptoms, drugs, disease etc of other things that I was familiar with but not with what was being asked. It helps eliminate answers. Also, focus on words etc. that you do recognize in the question and answer off of that. An example is getting a drug question with k+ in the name of the drug and then answering by thinking of what k+ does. Obviously that was not a drug question i got, that would be too easy but you get what i mean. hopefully this makes since??? GOOD LUCK TO YOU

well thank you! I did try it again and I got the good pop up!!! I really did think I failed b/c i only got 3 SATA but I guess the number of SATA isn't the only indicator of passing.

Sorry to hear that you didn't pass, but it seems like you have the right attitude and drive to pass this test! You will do it if you don't give up. Wondering if you have used the LaCharity prioritization book to study? I went through the hurst review, and looked it over but thats it. Then I bought Kaplan book and did all the end of chapter tests and practice test (61%) and my last study aid was the LaCharity book. The last couple of days before my test all i did was the workbook and I can honestly say that this book is what made me pass. Most of my questions were prioritization, planning and delegation. When I took my test I only got 3 SATA and I was really worried, but got TONs of prioritization. I swear that there were even similar NCLEX questions to the LaCharity workbook. With that said, if I were you I would take some time and get some stability before you even worry about taking the test again. All the stress you are under has to be effecting your ability to take this test. Give yourself a break and like other posts stated get a job (CNA would be perfect) and get yourself some money to eat! Then start again with NCLEX. I wish you the best, oh and if you call student loans (as long as they are not private) then they should give you a deferment/forbearance if you do have a job. I think it is called economic hardship.

I just took my NCLEX and am trying the PVT and the website is saying that service not avalible!!! SO, I am thinking that I failed b/c computer shut off at 85 or 90 questions (can't remember, I looked up and saw 85 but then did a couple more questions) and I only got 3 SATA! Even though I am pretty sure I didn't pass I just have to know for sure and the stupid website is down! I got a TON of priority questions, is that a good sign? Waiting...........................................................................

Any out there used an ultrascope?? I looked on the website and they say they are good for HOH?? Anyone think a Littman would be better??

I read on a thread about DSN that CO BON has made a req for all CO nursing schools to be accredited by 2010. So, i guess that is the deadline for DSN??

Hello all, what kind of stethoscopes does everyone have? Do you have to have an electronic one if you have hearing loss? Not sure if i will need an electronic one, but won't know until its too late? Anyone HOH that does not wear hearing aids and uses a regular scope?

You apply online, just google sallie mae and you'll get the website. It all depends on your credit rating, on one application is the same. The only people that can answer your questions are sallie mae, so give'em a call and they will walk you through it.

I am not living in CO at this time but i will be starting DSN in the fall and have decided to ditch the car. The school is in LODO so you could walk from a light rail station. About driving, i am orig from highlands ranch/loan tree area and i used to drive to Colorado Blvd exit on 1-25 for work (which isn't really that far into Denver) and on mapquest it says 15min. During rush hour time forget that, it would take me 45 to over an hr to get home. Traffic in Denver was bad when i lived there about 3yrs ago so i can only assume that its even worse now. But, if you drove into the nearest light rail station it might be better on time and gas for you. And not sure where you live in CO springs but i remember it being about 1 1/2 hrs from my house and i live 15-25min south of denver.
