i do see your point. well, i'm using kaplan and saunders so i would stick on the review materials that i'm using. i know that varicella virus (chicken pox), tb, rubeola virus (measles), disseminated herpes zoster requires airborne precautions. however, if your going to scrutinize how the cdc stated the list of infectious diseases, it has been said the "varicella virus (chicken pox)", not varicella zoster" which in my opinion is another type of disease - well, that's my assumption because on saunders comprehensive review for the nclex rn, 4th edition, page, 192, "skin infections such as cutaneous diptheria, herpes simplex, impetigo, pediculosis, scabies, staph, and varicella zoster - are listed on contact precautions." in connection, on kaplan's practice test and even saunders, including exam cram - it is categorized to contact prec. however, it is a fact that the agent of chicken pox is - varicella-zoster virus. so i dont know how to sum it up.

hmmm... varicella zoster requires contact precautions - it's stated on saunders and even in kaplan's qbank. disseminated herpes zoster is the one that necessitates airborne precautions.

Your welcome. Hmmm... If you have saunders compre review 4th ed - you can browse about the precautions, page 191-192. Some of the common diseases are also exemplified but not as sufficient though. I learned most of the diseases and its precautions on Kaplan's Qbank - rationale. Goodluck dude!

Well, hmmm... with the precaution what I do is attributing unique characteristics to each of these mentioned precautions. Below are the elaborations. standard prec - you have to use gloves or the needed PPE when in contact with the client including the articles. Airborne prec - Always wear mask; room should be closed at all times. Droplet prec - what I remember with this one is kinda similar with airborne which is wear mask at all times, however, room doesnt need to be closed as long as 3 feet (im not sure if its 3 or 6 feet) is observed then transmission is at lowest risk. contact prec - of course wear your gown, gloves etc. (I guess, mask is not really that needed.) MRSA: contact Croup: contact Influenza: droplet TB: airborne AIDS:Standard or Universal precaution similar with HIV and Hep B (This means, that these diseases are not transferred by casual contact.) I HOPE I HAVE HELPED YOU OUT. BUT TRY TO DO YOUR RESEARCH ALSO TO VERIFY MY INFOS.

RSV necessitates droplet precautions according to the Qbank of Kaplan. In connection, Saunders Compre Review for NCLEX RN, 4th ed, page 459, stated that "Respiratory Synctial Virus, although not airborne, is higly communicable and is usually transferred by DIRECT CONTACT with respiratory secretions." Thus, it requires contact precaution. Correct me if I misunderstood the information. Thanks.

im sorry suzzane... yeah the question i posted is not actually the actual nclex question. what i was trying to disseminate to the reader was that the exam has blood compatibility type of questions which have been made a little complicated like including the rh type in it. that's the common ground that i wanted to establish in addition to other source of questions.

i have rescheduled my exam on march 3, i just felt that i am not ready for the 20th month of feb. my friend failed the exam so i got scared. and lots of questions on infection control, prio and delegation. post has been edited. anything that is on the nclex exam is not to be discussed here and that is per the board that handles the exam. it is grounds for actually having results cancelled out by them. posting a question and its choices is most definitely not permitted. other issue is that your friend signed a document before she even started the exam stating that she would not discuss specifics of what was on her exam. exam questions rotate thru all of the time, there is a test bank of 2500 questions, your chances of getting any of them are quite slim that she had. suzanne4

Good luck to everyone who is planning to take this Feb. I'll be taking mine this Feb 20 and it'll be my second time. Im using kaplan's Qbank and Exam Cram Practice quetions which has the trademark of pearson. The questions provided on the exam cram is of the same difficulty with Kaplan. Anyway, Goodluck to us...

What are the concepts needed to be reviewed in preparation for the NCLEX RN exam?
Yeah. I 've searched and read some of the discussion. It just makes me nervous about mu 2nd take because I dont know what to do anymore if I would still fail. Its degrading. Im supplementing my knowledge with saunder's though. Sigh. Thank you Silver for responding to my thread.:kiss

What are the concepts needed to be reviewed in preparation for the NCLEX RN exam?
Thanks silverdragon! I only get 50+% to 60+% to my practice tests with Kaplan. Is that bad silver?

What are the concepts needed to be reviewed in preparation for the NCLEX RN exam?
Hi, I just want to ask what are the concepts highlighted for the NCLEX RN exam. Well, I know that everything should be studied I just want to know where to focus on my review. I only have Kaplan's Qbank as a supplemental material for my review. I'm reading Saunder's too. But I find Kaplan's questions more challenging because I only get 60% and above for most of my practice tests but below 70% and sometimes 50% plus. Im really frustrated how to pass the exam. Hoping for response.

well, with saunders, the type of question presented is more objective unllike Kaplan wherein critical thinking and discrimination on the answers are sought. Its like u can answer the questions in saunder with ur nursing knowledge received in school but with the kaplan, u have to analyze each question.

Wow! Hmmm.... I'll be taking the NCLEX RN too this month of feb last week or 1st week of march. I'm using Kaplan's NCLEX RN Q bank. I only get 60% higher but below 70%. Unlike in Saunders, I get 70 to 90%. The sharing really helps.

Took NCLEX 3 weeks ago
I called last week and they told me that my snail mail was return to the brn for some reasons. So, i dont really know if i fail or pass. But probably i failed coz my name isn't on the brn web. But my mom has these weird dreams that i pass. I dont really know what to think now. I didnt enjoy christmas because of it too. Hay, if they failed me, or i failed... They should have just sent me the letter. Hay. But 'Miracle Happens!' some ornament-angels at the shop or store spoke that to me when we did christmas shopping. A couple of them. Its really weird. Im still keeping my finger crossed hamburg. I really understand ur situation. Its not ur fault and there's always a second chance or probably more.

Yeah, they told me too that they sent the snail mail last week. Sigh! This is the worst christmas I would ever have, if I really failed. What do you plan now hamburg?

Took NCLEX 3 weeks ago
Hi guys, I took the nclex rn last nov21, 2008 and my name until now december 17, 2008 does not appear yet at the BRN website. I have an SSN #, does it mean that I failed already since its been 3 weeks or more now? I hope, I didnt failed but I cant find any reason why my name isn't on the CA BRN website. Its almost 4 weeks already and provided that I have an SSN#. And my classmate has his name on the web already. I took the nclex rn ahead of him. Is there any hope in this case of mine?

NCLEX-RN results in California...
I took the NCLEX RN exam last nov 21, 2008 and up to now Dec 11, 2008 my name is still not on the BRN website. I have not received any mail yet too. Does it mean I failed? I'm a foreign graduate though I'm currently living here in Indiana, USA as an immigrant and I have a SSN # too. I cant think of any reason why my name isn't appearing on the web except that I failed.

Anyone in the Sacramento area get an answer yet?
I still haven't heard form the CA BRN with regards to the result of my exam. It's been 7 days now and my name doesn't appear to the license verification on their website. My hope is fading. Tears.
