  1. Hello all. I'm a little late in my response :) I am also starting at Wolford on the 22nd. I am crazy excited and nervous at the same time. I am living off my wonderfully supportive husband's income (along with my 2 children) We are all here in sunny Naples. I also got stafford loans to cover tuition. I ordered Anesthesia Secrets but haven't received it yet. I also got Nurse Anesthesia Pocket Guide. I heard that we should get a laser printer for all of our notes, so I'm currently shopping for one. Do any of you know of a good one??
  2. Does anyone know where to get used copies of the sweat book and memory master? Thanks
  3. Does anyone know where I can get used copies of the Valley sweat book and memory master? I want to get them before I start next month to help with studying. Thanks!
  4. I disagree with the belief that you need your "year of med-surg" If you know what you want to specialize in for sure, go straight into it. The only negative will be that if you want to change specialties later, you may be trapped.
  5. How exciting!! Congrats, first of all. It is very time consuming, but the majority of nursing students in my program were all mothers, wives, etc. It is definitely doable and definitley worth it! Don't worry. You will all get through it, and you'll be glad you did it. Good luck and God bless! Enjoy it because it flies by!:wink2:
  6. I had a patient in dts who was yelling out gems all nite. The best came, however, when we were sitting around quietly charting and he yelled, "Somebody!!!! Get me a knife!! I need a knife......I'll explain later!!!!" riiiiigghhhhht a knife, great idea. He also told security, "These Registered Nurses broke a pencil off in my d--k!" Best of all was when I went in his room to find him covered in brown stuff (and I don't mean chocolate) He said, "I tried to get that guy to help me wipe my a$$ but he wouldn't so I did it myself", as he held up his now brown mitten. Priceless....
  7. Your nursing instructor is clueless. She has obviously been away from the bedside too long. Have not doubt that you did the right thing. As the saying goes, "There's nursing school, then there's real life." Just do what you have to do to get through it, shooting birds in your pockets (as a wise nurse once told me while I was in school.)
  8. I think you definitley did the right thing, and you have every right to initiate a code blue. I believe it's better to be safe than sorry in calling a code, and that anyone is obligated to do so if they feel there is an emergent situation. Rest assured, your first patient is always hard, but you did the right thing.
  9. I'm sorry...I need to clarify. My husband can watch my children only on nights and eves. That's why I want to shadow someone nights/eves. I'm trying to think of advance degree nurses (BSN ++) that work eves, nights.
  10. I am completing my last semester of my BSN program and need to do my final project. It is 120 clinical hours and a project at the end (implementing a policy, doing staff education) My problem is I need to try to shadow someone at night or eves. My husband works and I have no babysitter. I don't know any one in this city (just moved here) HELP!! Any ideas? I'm in Naples, FL. Thanks so much.
  11. I too was conditionally admitted pending completion of my BSN.
  12. During the day we have a secretary who refuses to do ANY form of patient care, including bringing a cup of ice to a pt. At night we have no one but us lil ol nurses to fend for ourselves. Our backs and shoulders suffer because of our morbidly obese population. I would love to have a tech. If mgmt spent a day in our shoes.....
  13. I got in with only one year SICU experience. I have a 3.6 gpa and 1140 GRE. It's all about what you make of that year, in my opinion. Some people may have 3-4 years in which they coasted through with no interest in learning new things, etc. You'll be fine, I'm sure. Good luck!!!:wink2:
  14. The interview was great. They really make you feel welcome. There are no clinical questions at all. It took about 5 minutes for the individual interview. The faculty seemed really nice and like they truly care about their students. That's why I chose Wolford. A lot of schools go through a filtering process in the first semester, but there they take their time to help you if you have trouble.
  15. I am officially in to Wolford College. I start september 08! Thanks for all the advice. :clpty:
  16. I too am taking chem through une. Organic chem I. It actually has a lab with it. which are you taking?
