I don't know. I work in school nursing. My situation is a little bit different because I'm a public health nurse directly affiliated with the county, not the school system. The school system has some drama, but our community is really supportive, even from the top down. We may be an outlier, and I think I really lucked out, but drama-free nursing workplaces exist! I promise!!

I'm a nurse who works 8-4 with weekends and holidays off! Left the PICU for public health/school nursing for the county and it was the best decision I ever made. Oh, and to support your statement, I wear business casual. :)

Check out American Academy of Pediatrics and their recommendations regarding lice in schools. Very interesting. If that's not applicable to you specifically, or you just aren't interested, there is some great concussion EBP and research out there. Some more ideas for your paper could include diabetes management in your setting, vision/hearing screening protocol, arguing for early(ier) intervention and education programs for drugs, alcohol, family planning. I'm sure there are mass amounts of info on all of these.

I wouldn't necessarily say she'd be tarred and feathered, more like questioned, like I just questioned you. And I agree, the debate still exists. But it only exists because of lack of education. First of all, the "study" by Andrew Wakefield that was later debunked several times and then completely in 2011 stated that MMR caused autism, not the flu shot. And yes, you will feel crummy after you get the shot. Its live attenuated - you're supposed to have a few aches and pains. Better than being bedridden for 10 days and spreading a terrifying - and often deadly - communicable disease.

You need a 3.2 in order to have your GRE waived. If you do not have a 3.2 (but your GPA is above a 3.0 or near it), you need to take a GRE and test with a combined score of 1000 or higher, and a written of 4. Combine that with a few experiences that make you stand out and a well thought through essay, and you shouldn't have an issue with getting in.

Hey! I'm also starting at GUH in July. I'll be in the PICU, and I'm coming from Chicago. Super excited to be moving, but I graduate in June so its going to be a pretty hectic month. Worth it, I guess! I have no idea what i'll be moving/how i'll be doing it, so I agree, advice would be appreciated!

Try googling "resume" or "new graduate nurse resume" for some ideas and feedback.

To everyone who is wondering about their app status: My roommate is a competitive candidate for the Fall '10 cohort, but has yet to hear back from DePaul. I inquired at the department and was told that there were over 200 applications to sift through this go around. I guess everyone wants to go back to school because of the economy. I would take it as a good sign that you have not heard back yet. No news is good news! Oh, and I'm in the Fall '08 MENP cohort in case you guys were wondering who this crazy knowitall is. 76 days until graduation!

The application came out online sometime in October or November. I applied, took a Nursing Battery Test, had a short phone interview and was invited to New Grad Day. During NGD, I interviewed in the area I wanted to work and was offered a position.
