Taking out the trash
I have emptied the trash cans in the patient's room but only if I have extra time. I am the case manager on the med-surg floor and do not expect any of the nurses or cna's to. We have housekeeping on the floor but sometimes don't get to all the rooms.

I've Had It! Nursing is NOT what it use to be!
I know what you mean when you say torture. I feel the same way. I work weekends and spend all day Monday and part of the day Tuesday recovering from my 12+ hours qd. I feel that it has taken a toll on my health. I have to take htn meds tid. The patients are usually not the problem where I work, its the families. Most of the time things go fine until the families arrive. The patients also have been known for telling the family an entirely different story about their care than the actual one. I am now counting the days until I retire. I'm too old to go back to school and change careers.

please help am going mad
I was the same way when I first started nursing. You have to get organized. When taking report prioitize, placing things that must be done in columns, high light them or write them in red ink on your report sheet like med times, xrays, mri, labs, and always follow up with these things. When the doctor comes in he will be wanting results. It helps to have a special place on the report sheet for things like diet, o2, allergies, etc... and don't try to do everything all at once. Prioritize tasks as well. Hope this helps

Drug Seeking Patients
I have been told that pts that are addicted to perscription drugs get their drugs for free. What is wrong with our society to allow this and people with heart conditions, hypertension, diabetes, etc... have to spend hundreds of dollars a month on their perscriptions? ESG RN
