2 drug errors in the last year
Try not to beat yourself up over it, learn from your mistakes. If something doesn't look right to you, go with your gut and look in to it. Ask Dr to confirm order, ask co nurse is this right? This doesn't look right to me.

anyone else struggle with Anxiety?
Yes I too have struggled with anxiety sense nursing school. Ms.piggy your story reminded me of my first flight when I thought the arm rest separating me and the guy sitting next to me was down. starting up into the sky, grabbed with both hands and squeezed on my right an arm rest, on my left the guy sitting next to me his leg. I realized at once what I had done but was so scared I couldn't let go. after we were up in the air I removed my hand and apologized profusely, he said hay No problem, but I was so embarrasses:uhoh21: I have had panic attacks and in general have anxiety, trouble sleeping ect... before and during most shifts I am quite anxious. I take xanax 0.5 mg two to three times a day. I try not to take it before work because it makes me sleepy, so usually vary anxious at work. I agree you should go see someone, its nothing to be ashamed of. It seems there are a lot of nurses that are in the same boat as we are, his alone makes me feel better.

Break Time,or Releive Person!
I worked at a Nursing home in which some nurses got upset because I took to many smoke breaks. In my defence I always informed the other nurse I was leaving the floor. I may go out 5 times in one shift to smoke. how long does it take to puff a quick one, 5 min. Some times I wouldn't even smoke a whole cigarette, smoke 1/2 and run back in. I don't take a lunch break so lets say worst case 5 smokes at 5 min at a time = 25 min. How is this any different from a 30 min lunch break. If the other nurse is on break I wouldn't leave. There were many that didn't mind, others did. The other nurse took 30 min lunch break. So I'm an adult and if I choose to split my break up in to tiny breaks why is this an issue. I know smoking is so not a good habit, and Its a choice, but that's the point, its my choice. does any one else see this as being inconsiderate to the other nurse.

Cure for whiny negative nurses - PET PEEVE game. Always read first post before entry.
pet peeve: nursing home incontinent pt. in bed, diaper wet, sheets under diaper wet. you tell the CNA pt needs changed. Her response, well the pt is a heavy wetter, if I change her bed now it will just be soaked again next time I come in and I don't want to do two complete bed changes. You get paid to keep them clean and dry. would you like to lay in your own urine for hours? If you have to do it again later so be it, that's your job. Don't like it, quit and find a job that you are better suited for. No I really don't know where you can find a job where you can talk on the phone to your friends, stand around and gossip, read magazines, and eat all night sorry. catchphrase: @$ or get off the pot

I know you
OK, just started going to the county jail through an agency two months ago. I live in a large city. three times in these short two months during my med pass I hear hay I know you. All three times I did recognize them, but was hoping they wouldn't remember or recognize me. I don't know why but I feel like the officers are like oh look what kind of people she associates with. two of them had just lived in my neighborhood a while back. One was a friends brother. I don't know why it embarrasses me so much when this happens, but it does. Do you ever see people there that you know? how do you handle it? Am I the only one who is uncomfortable when this happens?

Med Pass
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just started agency myself. Mostly have been going to the county jail, I did two Nursing home shifts 3-11 and couldn't believe how hard it was. I hadn't finished my 5p meds and they went for dinner. They came back and I finished the 5 pm meds. The other nurse was done a lot quicker, and when It came time to do the 9p med pass she was charting, talking on the phone ect. When I was finished I was getting the treatment book out to start those. She says oh hunny you must be new at this, I should have told you on 3-11 we pass out all our meds at 5p, we give them all at once it saves time. she also said and if they have prns give them then too. then she laughed. I couldn't believe my ears. OK, that was my last shift at a nursing home doing agency. What in the world, has any one else seen this done?

Hope you are feeling better, I know its easier said then done but try to relax. Pamper your self a little, you deserve it regardless of the outcome. Treat yourself to something nice. You have done all that you can, Its out of your hands now. Have you ever heard the song Jesus take the wheel? Its a country song. When ever I am in a situation like this I think of that song and it makes me feel better. any way, good luck to you.

dreams
On your nights off do you ever dream you are working. On several occasions I dream I am filling med cups, pouring liquids over and over, then I wake up and feel like I worked all night for no pay. Some times Ill dream I am giving a pt a wrong med and as they put it up to their mouth it goes in slow motion as I wave my arms and yell nooooooo. OK, am I alone here, or does anyone else work in their sleep? or have nightmares about work?
