  2. OMG Sorry for the late response. I have been working 6 days a week alternating shifts :/ I assume you already didi the test and found that it was easy and no even a "test". How are you? are you working?
  3. thank you so much!
  4. I wish I would have done this in my first interviews but they told me not to bring in anything so I didnt bring a pen and paper like I normally would do. After I was so nervous I didnt remember the names of the people on the panel lol. Im gonna bring one anyway next time :) thank you!
  5. So I am a new grad as of late last year. I have been doing home care since I graduated but I really want to get into corrections. I have interviewed at two facilities already and was told that there was other people more qualified than me because of military or contracter experience in the prison. SO, I have my 3rd interview at another facility coming up and I was wondering if I can say anything to let them know that I am willing to work hard, work the long hours and give it 100%, I just need to get my foot in door I want this job so bad and I feel like if I dont say something I might be over looked and regret it. How can word this without looking desperate and unprofessional? Is there anything I can say or will my lack of experience always hold me back? Should I not say anything? Please help.
  6. Hi whats CGFNS?
  7. Thanks Everyone! Interesting post. I still cant understand why more people dont want to go to the prison. BTW I did not get the job Feel like Im the only one who is banging on the prison doors to get in lol
  8. Lol. Don't offer it check to people. U should call that temp agency I mention above I think they are locqted down south near u and will help new grads. i called them a few days ago and I am a new grad and she said she could place me but the problem was i just interviewed at the place and want too see it I get the job as a direct hire first.
  9. Hi I totally understand where you are coming from. Im on the same boat. I know it doesnt help or fix anything when people say that but you have to take something away from what people are saying. The job market is bad, period. Yes it sucks that we suffered through school and now we are still suffering but you have to get creative or you are just going to be broke and ****** off. Here my suggestion: First look into temping. Its not steady money but its better than none and will give you something to work with. There are places that will take new grad. with the market the way it is you cant say "I wont work in blah blah blah" Consider home care or correction. Call Solvere (Spelling) its a temping agency that takes new grads and places them with the department of mental health. There might be a small waiting list but get your name on it. Contact home care agencies or look into private home care jobs. there are lots on craigslist. Second, look at other industries. I know you went to school and you want to work as an LVN but if your money situation is that bad do what you need to do. Be a waiter or do something clerical. Apply at any job you do. You can worry about experience when you get on your feet in a few months. I applied at the damn cheesecake factory! lol Third, Stay motivated. Dont let the stress of your situation hold you back. I know its frustrating and it sucks to get up everyday and look for a job but you gotta do it. I was always told If you dont have a job, your new full time job is looking for one. LOL So put in the hours and it will happen. I wish you the best of luck.Youre doing the right things just hang in there. Nothing good in life is easy I will keep you posted if I hear of any opening or temp agencies. Where are you located? socal, norcal?
  10. Im sure its not bad to wash them with your other clothes. I have never heard of someone getting sick from how they wash scrubs. :) do what saves money.
  11. I just interviewed at svsp. Im hoping I get the job. Do you like it where you are at? Is it that people get bored working there?
  12. Yes please share!
  13. will this staffing agency staff you if you dont have experience?
  14. Hi I hae been reading the post about corrections nursing and I noticed people who wanted to work there got hired. I also noticed that there is almost always openings. Is that due to high turn over or because the prisons are growing? just curious.
  15. I think the take home pay is a little higher. I heard you dont pay state taxes or social security on your pay check. Im not sure if its both but I was told the take home pay is high than private companies because less taxes.
  16. LOL yeah! mine was at 11 but I was there till about 12:30. I was curious if we met because I was talking to a guy and girl in the waiting area who went in before me. Both said they worked there through a staffing agency that didnt require them to have a year experience. I was thinking If they dont call me back for a job maybe I can try the staffing agency but I forgot to ask them the name of the place lol. After my interview the blonde woman was walking the same direction as me so I asked her if she would mind if I called to follow up or when I should expect to hear something and she said there was a lot of applicants this time and that if I dont hear from them in 3 weeks I can call and ask what stage they are at. But I read here on all nurses that some people got called 3 days later, Im hoping for that. I cant believe I didnt see you! small world! Good luck to us!
  17. It went good. it was freezing and I was nervous but it was good. It was totally my best interview so far. Hey I was wondering, did you interview at svsp this friday too?
  18. Thank you! I bought my resume like you said and updated it with my IV Blood draw info and they said that was great but I wouldnt be able to do that there lol. Thank you so much for your post! They said it normally takes 3 weeks and that If I dont hear anything I can call :/ hope Im one of the lucky ones who hear back 3 days later :) thanks again
  19. hey I know this is an older post but did you get the job?
  20. @NurseCubanitaRN2b: Hi! I have an interview at Soledad this Friday and I really want the job. Is it really easy to get in at Soledad? I really want the job there! :monkeydance:Is there any advice or tips you can give me for the interview? I will be greatful for anything;)
  21. @Phyxius: Hello. how did the interview go? did you get the job?
  22. Hi Everyone! I am a new grad and I have been hoping to start my career in the corrections field. I feel like this would be a good fit for me. I respect rules and procedures, I have great attention to detail, I respect people and communicate well with others. I am also a strong person and I am thick skinned. With all that said, I filled out an application as soon as I found out I passed the boards and I got a letter last week requesting that I interview this Friday! :) I am so happy for the oppurtunity but I am nervous about the interview. I dont know what to expect or how to make myself stand out. How do you tell someone that this is your dream job and you really want this job without sounding unprofessional? Can anyone tell me how many questions they ask and what was the subject area. example: Diabetes, why you want to work here, ect. Thank you!:heartbeat
