UW-Oshkosh Regular BSN
Hi. I was wondering if anyone is in the regular BSN program at UW-Oshkosh and if you can share your experiences in it w/ me? Thanks. I am an out of state student and will probably be transferring in. I have almost all of the pre-nursing classes done so I should only have about a year to go before I can apply. But how hard was it to get it? What kind of GPA did you have? How was the test/interview prcoess? Can you have a lower GPA if you do well on the entrance test/interview? Thanks for your input. Mike

Ok, thanks for your input.

Tom, Ok. So do you only have your ADN or did you go back and get your BSN? Is that the college thats referred to as MATC on here? My wife wants to move back to WI and so I am looking at UW-Oshkosh. I hear that the UW systems is a very good school system... Any thoughts? I want to just go straight for my BSN and I've got most of my pre-reqs done. The only thing is that if I moved back there I'd have to wait a year to become a resident to classify for in-state tuition which makes for another year of not being in a nursing program...

Hey Tom! Welcome to the boards. I had a question: Where did you go to nursing school at? My wife is from Wisconsin although we live in CO now... She wants to move back real bad. She's from Minocqua.

Who Else Is Anxious to Get the Prereqs DONE and Start NURSING SCHOOL!!
Well I have about half of mine done. I have several left but I'm trying to get them done this semester so that I can apply for Spring of 2010... LOL And so all I will have after this semester should be A&P 2 and Micro... It will be a hard semester as I am cramming in Hist, English (a retake to get an A), Chem 101, and A&P... Think it's too much? Because if I don't do it this way then I'll have to stretch it out until Spring of 2011... And even then you know you're competing w/ 200+ people. I figure this way even though it's a 'chance' to get in, if I do get in then the hard hard work of this semester/Fall semester will be worth it. Any thoughts?? Thanks for your 2 . :nuke: Mike

A & P 1 Fall 2008
Well after some creative schedule changes my current schedule looks like this: A&P I w/ lab Hist 103 (1800 and on or something..) lol and I'm retaking Eng Comp I (I got a C in it and so far I have taken half of my pre-reqs and only have 2 C's but my counselor says that one has to go... I'm planning on Spring of 2010... so I have a year and some change to go. But I only have about 7 classes left to take. I just finished up Eng Comp 2 and got a B... Have a great day everyone!

A & P 1 Fall 2008
Mary, Welcome! It sounds like you have an interesting plate full coming up. why are you taking a nurses aid class and Pharm Tech classes? I didn't think that the CNA class was req'd at PPCC for their RN program? I just graduated with an AAS in Networking Technology. And I'm taking a couple classes then going down to CSU Pueblo to finish my last couple pre-reqs and starting their BSN hopefully in Spring of 2010. I only have 7 pre-req classes left. I can't wait to get them all done and get my acceptance letter into the program... Which is a long time away. lol Well only about a year or so. I just got back from a week in Puerto Vallarta Mexico that marked my first year anniversary.

Chem 101 over the summer?
Thanks for your comments! I too was thinking about taking it in the Spring w/ A&P 2 but I also thought that it would be too much and I need it for my GPA... It will be hard but definitely doable! But sadly it won't be my only class... I'm taking two other 3 credit hour classes. Although, my class is 10 wks long. Which hopefully will provide a little reprieve instead of it being shorter than that. I couldn't imagine doing it in 4 or even 6 wks... Even if it WAS my only class. I wish you luck if thats what your doing.

Chem 101 over the summer?
Thanks for your input. I am still thinking about taking it over the summer because I'm still planning on working while I finish up my pre-reqs and I don't want to work and take A&P 2 and Chem at the same time... For those that don't know (which will be everyone... ) I do alarm response and work 6p-6a 3 days one wk and 4 days the next week... And so in doing this with the huge class that is A&P 2 I figured that I would rather only have to study that material instead of it PLUS chem...

Chem 101 over the summer?
I agree that it probably wouldn't have worked for me to take it in 6 weeks either. And I know that taking it over ten weeks or whatever the summer is, is going to be challenging and require a lot of studying/memorization but I think that it can be done... I had said in an earlier post that I was considering dropping it and taking it in the Spring when I take A&P 2 but I think that that might be even more challenging then taking it over the summer. It won't be my only class. I'm also going to take English Comp 2 and Intro to Stats. Has anyone taken stats yet? What can I expect?

Chem 101 over the summer?
Yay! Hopefully more people will take it or chime in with tips on how to succeed in it over the summer... Also, as an update I am dropping on of my classes over the summer so I will just be taking Chem 101 and two other 3 credit hour classes. Yes I know that this is a lot but I can do it! Have a great night! Mike :nuke:

Chem 101 over the summer?
Thanks for your input. I am planning on dropping one of my classes over the summer. So that will leave me with two and chem. And my chem is several years old... I'm still deciding whether or not to take. But I think that I am going to take it because I don't want to have to take it AND A&P 2 in the coming spring semester... Any thoughts?

Chem 101 over the summer?
Anyone here taking Chem 101 (intro to chem/chem 1) over the summer? I was thinking about doing it but don't need to. I will be taking 3 other 3 credit hour courses along w/ this 4 credit hour course. I was looking for peoples opinions on this one... And/or tips for passing it during the reduced time frame. lol -Mike

A & P 1 Fall 2008
I for one think that this is wayyy to many credits to be taking... My count was 17 credit hours? That is a lot. Especially considering that you have two hard science classes at the same time... Well I've never taken organic chem but I've heard that it's hard. why are you taking so many credits? Do they only have one session a year? ie Every Fall or what? I have 8 classes to take and the class that I'll be eligible to enter will be in Spring of 2010. When is your cutoff to apply for the Fall of 2010 program? Also, why does your adviser say that organic/bio chem is the class that 'makes or breaks' pre-nursing students??? I mean heck A&P and Micro are very hard courses and not that Organic chem isn't hard, but I don't know that it's harder than those classes... Just my two cents. Please provide some more enlightenment on your situation. And good luck with getting accepted for the fall of 2010!

A & P 1 Fall 2008
I will be taking A& P 1 w/ lab in the Fall plus French 1. I only have 7 classes left before I apply to my BSN program. And I should be getting in, in the spring of 2010... It seems like so long away... But I know that it's not! I can't wait to get going on the last few classes. Anyone taking anything over the summer? I'm looking at taking Intro to Stats, Chem 101, Eng Comp 2, and Western Civ 1. But I may be dropping the Chem and taking it this coming Spring w/ A&P 2... But I dunno. Any thoughts? -Mike

What kind of electronics are you packin?
I have heard many people say this. And I will agree w/ you on the usefulness of a PDA. I don't start my BSN program until a year from now. But a PDA is required. I also second the suggestion for getting one with the Pocket PC operating system on it as opposed to Palm. Just my . Have a great day!

What kind of electronics are you packin?
Hey just thought that I'd chime in. I'm entereing into a BSN program in about a year. And a PDA is required... As far as the laptop that will be personal preference. Also, please keep in mind that some facilities will not allow you to use a smart phone on the floor. Some do. It just depends. Also, I've heard of many people who will record their lectures and then convert them to mp3 and listen to them on an Ipod and listen to them on the way to and from class or at the gym, ect... Also, some mp3 players have a microphone that will let you record lectures and what not. Hope this helps somewhat...

Getting Accepted on a GPA only system
The counselor lady that I spoke to also said a similar thing in regards to the GPA. She said that a GPA of 3.5-3.6 would be competitive still but the higher the better obviously... LOL I've already figured out the best GPA that I can get and I have a long hard road ahead of me... But I know that I can do it! And man do you sound like a busy guy! Have a great day!

Getting Accepted on a GPA only system
Here they have an accelerated program for people who already have a bachelors in something. But the average gpa for the people in that program was about a 3.4... I'm glad that she finally got in to a program! And congrats to her for finishing it! What about you? Are you currently in a program or plan to enter one?

Any One Eyed Nurses Out There...
I'm just wondering if there are any one eyed nurses on this board? I've seen some who mention being visually handicapped. But I was just wondering if there are any who are actually missing sight completely or partially in one eye? And did this affect you during/after nursing school?
