How difficult is it to find work in your area?
Hey Art&Science, I currently work in Boston and found it difficult to find a job (and I'm not a new grad). I knew someone who worked at my hospital and got them to give my resume to a nurse manager...thus I landed an interview. I've heard that the new state-wide health insurance has cut the reimbursement rates for hospitals...since people who were supposed to get the health insurance still didn't get it...and are showing up uninsured, therefore the hospitals are eating the costs. With that, I heard hiring freezes are being implemented...but I haven't read anything in the papers for sure about this. Have you looked at Lahey or MGH?

What are other good paying jobs in healthcare?
I think sonographers make comparable salaries to a nurse.

The Addiction of Nursing
There are a million other things I could've done with my life, and sometimes I curse my job...but I have to agree with Flightline that I have been truely blessed with the ability to reach into and touch the lives of most of my patients in need. I too, feel somewhat addicted to this job ...perhaps it's because we both belong in the ICU? It's never boring, it's exausting, exhilarating, depressing, aggrevating, and both rewarding and unrewarding; yet I can't imagine doing anything else. I guess I'm just kinda corny that way. :wink2:

Male Chest Hair and Scrub Tops
Yesterday, during a code, I looked over and saw the back-hair popping out of the scrub top one of our surgeons was wearing -and got a little distracted...because I couldn't stop staring, and I was thinking: "wow, is he really that hairy??" ..hmm... however, I think it'd be wicked hot to wear a t-shirt all the time under those scrubs ...especially with all that hair! Yikes!
