Support Stickie for New nurses who are not coping
:typing Hi everyone, I'm a new RN also, I just want to let my fellow newbies to hang in there. Organization plays a very important part of your day, make your own routine that works for you...lesser writing, use symbols/characters/acronyms. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Mistakes happen and you learn from it. Take a a deep breath. Take care of your health since it can wear and tear your body. I had sleepless nights too, I was scared of moody doctors, got yelled at... almost cried. I once thought maybe nursing isn't for me, then I realized I still love nursing, I keep telling myslef "I love nursing", and nobody is perfect, I'll just have to do my best. I encountered those nurses who won't even look you in the eye when giving report, like they're not listening, I feel disrespected but I kept going with my report and ask them if they have any questions. It annoys me, but only a few nurses do that at my work. Be confident!
- Hang in there new Grads and New Nurses it does get better..I PROMISE

Mistakes we have made
Reading your stories made me smile, whew. I'm a new RN. I had a pt on CBI, I've been emptying his CBI frequently. Then he said he feels pain, like cramping in his bladder, so since he's post-op I thought, ok he needs pain med, so I gave him Percocet. Few minutes later, I asked if he feels better, he said from 9/10 now it's 3/10. So ok, I told him to call me if it's not getting better. I checked the CBI, not quite full yet. Then I saw his MD in his room, he asked me to irrigate the pt's foley, coz it was clotted that's why he's in pain. He was mad, I feel guilty, stupeed and didn't get a good night sleep for few days hoping I didn't perforate that pt's bladder. He didn't! One day, early morning I checked my pt's labs, called the MD for low H/H. He said he ordered a blood for the pt the other day. So I checked the chart it was ordered yesterday but it wasn't given, and even the night shift nurse that gave me report didn't mention anything about it. I sent urine for UA from the wrong patient (no biggie he was dc'd anyways) I had some minor medical errors (from now on, I'll be more careful)

Hurst Review online--any try it
I took their 3 day live review and had a week(more than a wk) of free on-line review because we started late on the first day. I passed my NCLEX on the first try. Their instructors are great.

2nd semester and has failed first two tests!
I can see that you have a tight schedule. During classes/lectures make sure you get what the instructors is teaching, try not to be distracted. Read the book/chapters that is not clear to you, if it's still not clear ask someone who grasp the concept. Set a time for your studying without worrying about kids/etc. Try to explain to yourself what you've just studied if you can do that, move to the next one. Always remember your priority ABC's, ADPIE and know what the question is really asking. Don't over analyze. Repetition is very important in studying but make sure you understand it too. Good luck!

<<<i Just Found Out My Results 2day March 6th>>>
Don't lose hope. I just grad. Dec.'07, took my boards Feb. 21 and passed. I took the HURST review (3 days) and did about 100 ques. a day untill my test date, but if you can't do 100 ques a day, start with 20, 50, 75, to 100. The NCLEX tests you as a new nurse, so don't think too much when answering these questions. Practice NCLEX questions are the best way to study, try the ones with multiple answers. Don't stress when you're studying; sleep when sleepy, take a break when tired, eat. Don't study when/where you're not comfortable or able to concentrate, you'll just be wasting your time/energy. Hang-out with your bf, friends, family. Pray.:redpinkhe

Transfer position: No bonus???
I'm a new nurse. I work as a nurse tech and requested a transfer position to RN. I'm just wondering why I don't get a bonus/contract now that I will be working as a nurse. HR said it's because I'm not a new employee, but i'm thinking i'll be working in a different position.

Did You Get A Sign On Bonus?
I'm a new nurse. I work as a nurse tech and requests transfer position as a RN. I asked HR why they don't offer me a bonus/contract, they said it's because I'm not a new employee. I thought nurses get sign-on bonus to for 2-3 yr. contract (for retention as a nurse) or do they just offer this to experienced RN's. I'm confused.
