60-something yo male about 6'0 asked for a bedpan. The aide helped him onto it, closed the curtain and placed the call light in his hand. Less than five minutes later, the aid calls me and tells me to look at the space between where the curtain ends and the floor. All I could see were this man's feet flat on the floor. He decided to place the bedpan on the floor NAND use it that way! He said 'this is the best I could do'!!!

No sarcasm. Just find it a bit on the amusing side.

Rehab nursing- a lot of teaching is involved, usually a low pt load and pt usually stay around for a while../

I work in a Rehab Hospital with SCI population which in turn equals bowel programs every evening for them!!!! Including but not limited to: digital stim, manual removal, Dulc supp, mini-enemas, Fleets, SMOGs. Oh the joys of being a bowel queen!!!

I work with a difficult population (SCI), most of which are young males from the 'streets' who were never taught any manners and do not know how to communicate well with others. I try to take the same approach: strictly business, state the rules of our unit and THEIR responsibilities as a pt from the day of admission. I have also noticied that staff which does not take a similar approach get manipulated and treated badly.
