Waiting Rooms
We do have a consultation room. Its a small room with a few chairs around a table. Maybe a picture on the wall. You can enter it from the ICU or from the waiting room. It is used frequently for private conversation.

Waiting Rooms
I need some input! I am on a committee to redo our ICU waiting room. Recently a family member fell and broke her arm on linens that were just laying around from another family member. Now her bill is the hospitals bill. Its not bad, it was redone 6-7 years ago. Its rather large. However the carpet is to be torn up and wood laminate to go down (it can be cleaned, the carpet stinks!). We want to increase the lighting. Possibly add a refreshment area (we are no longer going to allow family members to bring in food or drink into the ICU, and that way they don't come up to us wanting ice or coffee). One of our managers talked about an experience at another, larger ICU. She said that every morning (7-8ish). Someone came in, turned the lights on and collected all the linens. Also to close the ICU for a couple hours every morning so house keeping could clean. Meaning families would have to remove all items for cleaning. We have been having problems with families making "forts" in corners. Im just wanting ideas on what works and doesn't work for your waiting room. One of our CEO's is backing the project, so we really don't have a budget (within reason). Thanks for any help!! Lori:nurse:

How much is your pay?
2.5 years ICU experience as an RN in Southwest Missouri. My primary job is about $27/hr, provides benefits and such. I only work there 2 days/wk. I also do per diem shifts. $35/hr with no benefits. We have several nursing schools in the area and the cost of living isn't terrible. Id still like to make more $$$ for what I do....

Which agencies are the best?
I have really enjoyed working for Nursefinders. When I contracted my routine wasn't any different from anything other time Ive worked as a nurse. I had already worked at the hospital doing per diem shifts. I wanted to make sure it was some place I could stand to work for 8 or more weeks. The staff at this hospital is usually very willing to help, very kind. When I work per diem shifts they just call and let me know what they have available or I call the office. They offered me benefits but I have them through my other job. I get paid when Im on my way home, I turn in my pay slips and they write me a check. This is the first time I have ever heard of this, but it really motivates me when they want me to work a shift. If you have any specific questions Ill be happy to answer them.

What is Nurse:Patient ratio at your hospital?
Im an ICU nurse in SW MO. We have 2 pts each, 3 on a terrible night. We have techs that do temps, FSBG, and assist with baths (we do all vent baths at night, and the drsg changes that go along with those baths).

How much residual is too much?
Im in an adult ICU. Our policy is if the residual is greater than 200 cc, hold it, then recheck. I can't remember if you hold for 30 min or an hr before rechecking. Then if they continue to be high contact metabolic support. I work nights, so the metabolic support comes by in the day and revises things. The last time I had to look at the policy my residual was almost 500, so I knew I was going to have to leave it off for several hours.

Which agencies are the best?
I have worked for Nurse Finders for almost a year out of the Springfield MO office. They are great to me. I am currently doing per diem work, but have done an 8 week contract. They have RN's LPN's CNA's etc... They offer benefits, immediate pay, lots of options.

Travel Nurse
I work for Nurse Finders, they have an office in St. Louis (not sure where in the city). I have been with them for almost a year. I worked an 8 week contract out of their Springfield office in Branson. I have been happy for the most part. I basically do PRN work for them now, I just call when I want to work and they hook me up. I get paid when I get off work which is amazing. They do take the taxes out, so your not stuck with tons to pay in. They offer benefits and everything. Check them out! Lori

Best shoes for nursing
I have been wearing Danskos for about a year. My arch "falls", giving my lots of feet and back problems. I have had much relief with these. I paid about $130 for them, but wouldn't go back. Lori
