If you live in NY., have you considered NJ? Virtua has plenty of facilites that hires new grads. You can also tell them that you plan on seeking to obtain your BSN. Although you would have a 45minute-1hr commute, you can gain experience. Any new grad whether BSN or ADN is going to have a tough time.

I am considering travelling as well. However I would never leave a perm job until the contract job is secured with a start date in place. What about a 4 week notice and using pto for 2 weeks?

young mom, nursing school, job can i do it?
I am a firm believer that you can do it. I delivered my daughter over springbreak on Saturday...had a Midterm on the following tuesday and kept it moving. I previously had a son who was 3yrs old at the time. I had a job and went to nursing school fulltime. You need a really good support system to back you up and you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

do you always monitor BP b/f giving HTN medications
I work in a long term care setting and on a progressive care unit at a hospital. I always check my patients blood pressure prior to given any antihypertensive...especially the powerful vasodilators like Clonidine. If a patients blood pressure is low, you do not want to give someone Clonidine. You may find that individual on the floor. If there are no parameters, i would FYI to the doc and just double check. Some bps meds are more powerful than others. So better safe than sorry.

Night Shift

But I usually have a cup of coffee prior or in the middle of my 12hr shift and I am usually smooth selling. How do you like the travel nursing job? I am highly considering travel nursing this summer

LTC nurse wants a new job.
I dont think you would have a problem getting a job on a least a med surg unit..the hospital enviornment is a lot different than the LTC enviornment. As a nurse that works in both settings, I am more tired after working in a hospital setting vs a LTC setting. Any setting that you work in, will pose problems...good luck

Family Nurse Practioner Online Program at Felician College
I just started the program actually yesterday. Considering that my BSN education was 30k a year/this school is much more affordable. I am currently taking 2 classes and my bill was 3800. I didnt think that was bad at all. My employer prepays two classes a semester, so it looks like everything will be virtually free.

Temple University Hospital, is it a good place to work?
Temple is a great place to work for. You will learn a lot working there. I am a native of philly but now live in delaware county. It is not a safe place to be walking around, however neither are any of the other good hospitals such as univ of penn, albert einstein, hahnemann, etc. I personally think you will be just fine. Good luck

How to organize my time as agency nurse in LTC facility?
I work in a long term care and a hospital setting. To answer this question, it truly depends on how many residents you are caring for in a shift. 2) What shift you are working because it seems like the day shift nurses always are getting slammed. But no matter what shift i work, I always flag my meds on my MAR, then i jump straight into wound care, and do my vital signs as i pass my meds. Then after my meds, before their food arrives, i try and finish my wound care treatments. Then I start charting. I usually try not to chart until at least my first half of my meds are done and my wound care is completed. Also when you flag your MAR, this is a great opportunity to see when antibiotics are due and if they need to be removed from a refrigerator or not.

Genesis Healthcare Nurse Residency Program
Wow thats great. I didnt get a year long for my residency program.
-
Genesis Healthcare Nurse Residency Program
I worked for Genesis Healthcare coming out of school. I did their residency program simultaneously with a Med Surg RN position. I think Genesis is a great company to work for. Some centers are better ran than others but some hospitals are better ran than others as well. However, they will give you a good med surg experience. When I did the residency program, I was paired with another nurse for 6 weeks and the nurse educator pulled nurses off the floors for debriefings and educational stuff. The pay rate depends on locality. Some geographical areas just pay better than others.
