  1. Hi. I was looking into extending my contract... What are some advantages and things I can ask for when extending? I have to leave for a 2-3 weeks after my original contract is over but they allowed me time off for personal reasons... will and can my agency provide me with travel expense x2 (for example my original contract that states 400 each way) then for my extension, can I get 400 each way again.. cause technically I am leaving to go back home and coming back? How much on average can you negotiate an increase in base rate or stipend? or is that pretty rare? thanks
  2. Anyone traveling to San Fran for a travel assignment. I've applied to UCSF, John Muir and San Jose Regional... And am in the process of looking for housing. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for a private room- sharing a home to save money. I do not want to take company housing. Anyone want a roommate :) Thanks
  3. Thanks! I understand. My current contract states I can be called off one shift per two weeks. I just ended my contact and they cancelled me my last shift without letting me know- supposedly the night supervisor said I should get paid 4 hrs because I came into work and then cancelled me. So hopefully I'll get paid. But is states in my contract that first and last week are prorated. So I'm a bit screwed in a sense I only worked 12+12+4=28hrs- so my housing and m&i will probably be deducted as well. Sucks! Stupid. But whatever. I am definitely looking for guaranteed hours and at least a 60hr work week for two weeks. Hope my recruiter can find that and write it on the contract!
  4. Thanks for all the input!!
  5. Is it true that guaranteed hours are not offered very often? Two recruiters I talked to said hospitals are not commonly offering guaranteed hours. I wanted my recruiters to be able to guarantee that I get 36hours a week or at least 60hours in two weeks. (They can call me off one in two weeks). One hospital contract with the agency states they can call me off one 12hr a week... My recruiter keeps telling me I shouldn't be worried but I am cause I've read these forums about shortened hours. And I want my full pay. Am I expecting too much out of the contract and should I just take 1 call out a week? Thanks!!
  6. So the hospital (hr/supervisor/payroll) said I should get paid holiday cause they recognize it as a holiday. So when I brought it up to my recruiter- she said I signed their agency manual which states what they (the agency) recognized as holidays, and Presidents' Day isn't one of them... They have the major ones like xmas, new yr... How do I go about this now? My contract with the hospital states "client recognized holiday" then supposedly the manual doesn't list it... Does that make sense? Should I still be able to get compensated? I really want my holiday pay!
  7. My contract states it will pay for "client recognized holiday", but the supposedly fine print my recruiter is saying is that this holiday isn't recognized for travel nurses.... No where in my contract specifies that.
  8. So I worked a holiday that's recognized from the facility as a holiday but wasn't paid my holiday rate on my earnings. I messaged my recruiter about it and she said it only applied to permanent staff and as a traveler "Presidents' Day" isn't recognized. Does that make sense? Is it appropriate for me to ask for documentation about it. And keep fighting for it? I worked other holidays like xmas and got holiday pay... I've looked on their main manual thing and it's never specified btw permanent and travel nurse holidays😑. Thanks for your inputs!
  9. i would like an answer to the low tax rate too.. i was worried about it but my recruiter told me not to worry? but i havent talked to an accountant about it and i dont have a accountant familiar with travel nursing..? i like the idea of low tax and high non tax, but will i get in trouble? irs doesnt know what your profession is right? i plan on doing travel nursing for a year or two and dont have crazy expenses so i guess im not worried about stuff like purchasing a new home or something... thanks for the help!

Are you signed up with CCTC? I'm still looking for my next assignment and was thinking about TN.

I'm a new traveler as well. I am in NH, my contract ends Oct 28.. I've been trying to figure out where I want to go next. I am 28, single and have one pup. I was looking into AZ, TX, CO, HI, KY, N/SC,... Sarah
  12. Thanks again. I decided to take it and see, as it is my first assignment I guess. Still nervous!! Thanks for your help!!
  13. Thank you for all the advice and help. The hospital is actually Alice Day Peck, not the more common Dartmouth. I believe I did look into CCTC and their pay was less than what aya is offering me. Which is the package I wrote above. I will ask about the insurance and per diem etc.. Housing there is pretty expensive.. I'm trying to travel with my pitx but it is very hard! also what did you mean about me being locked in for 6-12mo? Thanks so much!!!
  14. I am getting a lot of pressure from my recruiter to hurry up and decide if I want to accept a job offering in new Hampshire. I talked to the nursing director and she seems nice and its a smaller Hospital. I'm not too familiar with smaller hospitals and the computer charting system- should o be worried? This is the pay package: 3 12hour nights Housing - 2550 Tax wage - 20 Weekly pay for 36hours - 1308.51 No differential for night or weekend (I keep asking my recruiter and I guess its not common for agencies to give out differentials?) Does this seem good for Lebanon new Hampshire? According to the nursing director I can pick up overtime too, but not sure about holiday pay. I don't know how much insurance is but I would need to get it with the company... What other questions and specifics should I ask about prior to accepting? Could I say yes to accept the job and still go over details of the contract and if there's stuff I don't like can I decline the offer? Thanks Sarah
  15. Is it normal for recruiters to put in your application to hospitals you never mentioned? i wanted my recruiter to put my application into a hospital in concord,nh instead she or supposedly her account manager put one in Lebanon,nh because concord was closed- without letting me know. So I got a call from a nursing director from Lebanon and she liked me- but I don't know if I should take the job... It's a smaller rural hospital...
  16. I worked in DC for three years on a med-psych unit. I am looking into traveling and got a an interview with a small rural hospital in New Hampshire and might submit another application to Milwaukee hospital in a larger city. (Aurora or Wheaton hospital... Any recommendations). Which should I chose as a first time traveler? I'm nervous about the rural hospital because I've never been to a facility that has 25 bed- mixed with obgyn, ortho, spinal fusions, MedSurg, birth center etc all mixed together- with just one ED phsycian on call at night. Should I be nervous as my first travel job? They also don't have a rapid response team/code team - the experienced nurses on the floor act as that.. what at should I do? thanks
  17. Hello. I might take a travel nurse job in Lebanon, NH... How is it there... Are there a lot of young 20-30s people to hang out and meet? Any recreational/intramural sports teams I can join for the summer.. In July/Aug? Rock climbing, hiking, bars, museums, sightseeing etc? Any recommendations? How is Alice Day Peck as a hospital? It seems very small... What should I expect from the nurses and management style? Any input would be helpful! Thanks!!
  18. This is for Austin Texas. What does housing range in Austin or general Texas?
  19. i have a question regarding taxable vs nontaxable pay. One recruiter told me she can adjust my hourly wage plus or minus 3USD... Taxable hourly of 20.25 Meals and incentives 245/wk housing 1500/month According to my recruiter I'll take home about 1080 or 1180 a week including my subsidy... OR Taxable of 17.25 M&I of 245/wk Housing 454/wk About 1200 weekly including subsidy... Is there a huge pro/con to accepting a lower taxable wage? I dont think I will have any loans or credits that will be effect it... thanks! sarah
  20. Hello everyone, I am getting pretty confused as to what two different agencies are quoting me with benefits/pay packages... This is in Texas Agency 1: 3 12 hour nights 13wk Taxable hourly wage: $20 Monthly housing stipend: $2,600 Weekly pay for 36 hours: $1,320.05 With full medical, dental, and vision That's all she wrote, and she told me that the minimum taxable hourly wage is $20, and can be negotiated for more but I will get less nontax money (how much, I do not know... She wasn't specific) No night differentials and no idea if OT is offered, until I talk with the hospital... I was looking into Austin and Houston, but it seems like the pay package is the same for either location??? Does that make sense? Am I suppose to have an interview with the hospital first then go over details about pay and benefits after? Agency 2: 3 12 day/night rotation 13wk (Austin) Tax hourly wage: 20.25 Meal and incentive: 245/wk Housing: $1,500 (I am assuming with full insurance..not sure about OT or night differentials) My recritier told me I would be making about $787/wk...and estimates out to $27/hr. 3 12 nigh and eveningt 13 wk (Houston) Tax wage: 20 Meals: 245/wk Housing:1,500 Night shift diff: $1 Approx $29/hr and making 781/wk... The calculations don't add up for me... How are they coming up with these numbers?? And another one at Humble,TX.. All she said was 26/hr weekly of 761/wk. (12hr day, 13wk) What should I be asking... My recruiters are nice but I'm just really confused as what I should be asking... Thanks for the help!!
  21. I was told that the march 3 start date was filled up? I think Austin would be so much fun. Enjoy your time there. Were you traveling in Denver- with which company?

So I am new to travel nursing and had an opportunity to get a position in a location I wanted. However my recruiter told me because I took too long responding back to her, the position I was offered was filled. I felt like I was rushed into deciding if I wanted to accept the job. I had so many questions and it was during the holidays so she was out of town and sick. I wanted to go over contract details with her and to have specific requests written in the contract. I've been reading reviews online telling all travel nurses to get things written in the contract and specified. (What things do you mean... I tried to ask my recruiter to put into the contract that I not be charge nurse, if I could request some days off for a wedding and scheduling requests,.. But she said the contract is as is and cannot be changed. Is that true.) And my recruiter wouldn't let me go over the contract before I officially accepted. She said I can see the contract once I accept. Does that make sense?!?? Please help Thanks!!
  23. Hey! I was offered a position with Seton Medical too! This is also my first travel assignment. I haven't officially accepted but I need to talk to my recruiter about specific details... Yay! It's exciting but also very nerve racking for me.
  24. Hey! I am looking to travel to Austin, TX (if the right opportunity comes along)! I have been a nurse a little less than 3years on a med-surg/psych unit. And I get similar patients as the other nurse... Have you been looking for housing? I have a dog I am trying to take with me but I'm scared it's going To be hard to find housing. Sarah
  25. Thank you for your help! I am still looking around and trying to compare other agencies (if and when they back to me)
