"working" when you're off...
Giiiiiiiiiiirl relax, relate, release! You are too funny! Talking bout some "go to hades"! LOL! Now you know that AN can be a bit much, but EVERYONE is only trying to help. Even those that seem "judgmental". Besides, we all need haters! It's the only way to know that YOU must be doing something right! But all jokes aside, set some boundries! It's okay to say No, its okay to refer people to their PCP, its okay to delegate. Some of the most brillant people in the world, can get Pyramids built without lifting a finger, but delegating it down to the littlest piece of stone. So lets review what we've learned here: -Say No -Refer to PCP -Delegate Task End result= Time off, to relax, relate, release!!!:sleep:Oh yeah and the much coveted sleep!

does anyone regret this career?
OP, I understand how it can be your first year. My first 6months was so devasting, frustrating, agrivating, etc. :mad:I used to go home and cry, better yet, most of the time I never made it home, used to lock myself in the bathroom and bawl my eyes out! :crying2:Not only were the nurses mean, but the overall staff used to join in to put me down EVERY way they could, from the position I used to hold the diabetic needle, to IV's, to med transcription, to EKG's, not to mention the way they tore apart my assessments! It was horrible! Thank God, the Lord heard my prayers and got me out of that enviornment. :yelclap:Now it's not all peaches and creams, but it is WAAAAAAY better than the hell I just came from! I know it seems like it will never get better, but it will! If the situation doesn't get better, YOU will! You will get stronger, wiser, sharper, your skin will thicken, AND hopefully, you will treat the upcoming nurses BETTER than you were/are treated. Just remember, YOU are the doctors eyes and ears, and there have been thousands of cases documented where the quick thinking of the Nurse rescued and saved lives. Even if you saved 1 life you've effected many! Chin up! Be blessed.

Can someone "dumb down" what Obamacare really means?
"Uggghhh....not to pick on you, but I am tired of hearing that the ACA "may not be perfect.....", and that "at least he (Obama) is trying" (which is debateable), or that it is "better then nothing". To me it's like 200 people are stuck on an island, and they have a submarine that fits 50 people. Obama has spent trillions to build a new submarine. However, it holds only 150 people, has a screen door, and is powered by hamsters running on a wheel. It's nowhere near perfect, is not better then nothing, and "trying" isn't much consolation. I'm willing to keep working on a better solution before I get into that submarine." One of the wonderful things about being in this great country of ours is a right to express our opinions, whether I agree or not. Please don't feel like you're picking on me, I'm an adult and I can handle it. The point is the effort, most miracles in medicine alone, have been done by sheer effort, even if it is powered by hamsters. :)

Can someone "dumb down" what Obamacare really means?
Hancock330, thank you so much for your clarification, dedication, and response to the op. I can certainly sense your passion, and drive not only for the career of Nursing which you have so lovingly dedicated 40 years to, but your eagerness for overall equity for mankind. Is it so wrong for human beings to want affordable healthcare? Is is so wrong for human beings not to have to accept charity and be treated as such, just to survive inevitable illness? I think not! No the ACA may not be perfect, but show me something created by mankind that is? We as human beings are not perfect, so perhaps the bar is set a little to high for ANYONE to expect absolute perfection. My hat goes off to the President who is at least trying. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Again, thank you Hancock330 and thank you all for your thoughts. God bless.

Lacking Conflict Resolution and Delegation Skills...Really?
"the internet doesn't have the benefit of body language, facial expressions, etc. what is often perceived as "the typical attack" is often merely a well-meaning but direct response that lacks sugar coating. your response to the replies you got was, however, deliberately nasty. that speaks to your conflict resolution skills, and i'd agree that they need some improvement." thank you for your comment, unfortunately, all followers think alike. this speaks to your inability to think for yourself, but keep trying one day you will get there. cheers!

Lacking Conflict Resolution and Delegation Skills...Really?
Once again, I thank everyone for their comments...have a blessed one!

Lacking Conflict Resolution and Delegation Skills...Really?
Just a quick update, not ALL the LPN's/Techs are disrespectful in terms of heeding to delegation...not all, just wanted to provide that clarification for those who are still a bit nebulous, afterall LPN stands for "Love Produced Naturally";)

Lacking Conflict Resolution and Delegation Skills...Really?
Let me first thank everyone for their replies, albeit, some are very short, curt, and a bit disrespectful. Nevertheless, I did ask for ALL comments, so that's what I get. Please understand that this was a mere vent, that is all. What doesn't suprise me is the typical attacks that I received, especially from Ms. Ashley, PICU RN, but it is quite unfounded, Ms. Ashley, hardly knows me, and definitely doesn't know the staff that I've discussed. However, she politely puts her worthless 2 cents in unabashedly. Well, I guess that's it for expressing my feelings, but again, I can't expect anything less, especially coming from nurses, who are under the mindset of attack, attack, then attack some more. Pity.

Lacking Conflict Resolution and Delegation Skills...Really?
Okay, here is the scenario. My nurse manager has "retired" shall we say and her position needs to be filled. Well, I threw my hat in the ring, thought that would be a good idea considering that I have experience and BSN. What the hay, may as well give it the ole college try right? In any case, my don states she will interview me, but one thing she has to point out is my poor conflict resolution and delegation skills. Really? How do you resolve conflict when much of the staff are lazy, unprofessional, and inadequately skilled? So, because, I won't let a nurse who puts ear drops in someone's eyes, lead a code, I'm bad at conflict resolution? Or because, I won't stand by with someone who is infarcting, and let the nurse not give him Asa, nitro, and O2, I have poor conflict resolution skills? Don't get me started on delegation. How can you delegate to a med tech, LPN, or other staff that pays you absolutely no mind? You write them up but to no avail. No consequences, no suspension, no backing from management. Well you know what? You can keep your little Nurse manager position and you know where you can put it! Sorry, I'm just a little teed off and venting. Thanks for allowing me to vent. Please give me any suggestions, in fact ALL suggestions are welcome.

heartbroken needed to vent
OP, I am so sorry that you had to go thru what you went thru, but the truth is...we all had to go thru the valley to get to the mountain top. I know that I had the same experience and so have many, many, others. Its unfortunate but it happens all the time. I had a preceptor that was from pit of..., lets just say she wasn't very nice! She used to embarrass me in front of patients, put me down all the time, snatch off leads from a patient and told me it was incorrectly placed, she was a real witch! Now I'm a dude, and I'm not really too emotional, but this preceptor sent me to the bathroom near tears, not from hurt but from anger! Sometimes I wanted to slap the &*%T out of her! Need less to say, I'm no longer there, but a much needed lesson was learned. This evil preceptor was one of the BEST, the very BEST nurses in the facility. I took all that I could from her, learned and developed my skills, and now I'm a preceptor to others. Now I see what SHE went thru! Trying to teach and offer guidence to green hornes, who THINK they know EVERYTHING especially if they just got out of school. Never the less, I try, (operative word is try) to be as patient and kind as I can, knowing that putting someone thru the fire is not always the best move. Best wishes and use the experience for the good, it will surely outweigh the bad! God bless you.

Looking for help finding PHN Job any suggestions?
Update#2: I have just submitted an additonal app for a PH position which is closer to where I live. The good thing about this is that, someone that I currently work with knows the DON and can put in a good word for me. Now if this one offers me a position, although the pay may be less than what I'm used to, I'm going to take it, because, it's closer to home. Pray for me!

Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!
Thanks for this thread, it really helps! Here goes: Excuse me, I KNOW you are a super nurse, and I KNOW you know how to do EVERYTHING all by yourself, but do you mind if a little pion like myself help? Oh his bs is 46 and you send him to me? How nice, so you didn't do a nurse intervention? Like give him some oj maybe? Oh the pulse ox machine doesn't work so we'll just skip that portion of our assessment. Never mind that he has a history of Asthma! Phone's ringing its for you. Please don't tie up the line with all your boyfriends as someone with a real emergency may need to get thru! This is just the starters!

No need to be upset at the truth! Change careers
I for one must state that this is a second career for me and I absolutely love it! Does the staff I work with stink? You betcha! But not all of them. I have to concentrate on the beautiful staff that make my job, career, enjoyable. Besides, as a Christian, it is real easy to love someone who loves you, but try being kind, caring, and loving to someone that can care less about you patients and staff!! Therefore, I pray, God help me not to cuss no one out and provide care as if my very life depended on it! LOL! But seriously, sometimes I can't believe they pay me for doing what I do. Most of the time I really, really, love it. Maybe because I enjoy helping people, especially the "underdog".
