CA/ State Prison RN job question
Hi, I am interviewing for San Quentin on Teusday. I am so nervous because I don't interview well. can anyone tell me how the interview process goes and what type of q's they ask? I am also wondering how acute the care at SQ is? I am working at a SBF right now. My thought is that it the care will be sismilar and that if they need any acute care thay go to a hospital? Am I correct? Thanks for any info.

VA Palo Alto New Grad Program
I'm a BSN grad with 8months LTC exp. as an RN. When I emailed the nurse recruiter and asked about the progress this was her reply, "I am still doing some last minute review and negotiation for new graduate slots. I plan to send email updates to all the candidates by next week. Thank you for your patience". I'm not sure how to take that. Is there a hidden message? Maybe saying that I'm not in??? Not sure!

New grads how did you land a job?
What I want to know is, what makes one person stand out above the rest? For hiring managers, why does one person get offered 4 jobs or even lots of interviews, and others apply to every job possible and nothing!?! What's the difference?

Got terminated from first job cant find new one, still a newgrad
Dear Lifern, I didn't say I couldn't cope with it. I really want to be anurse and do believe that I will be a good one, I'm just confused right now, and certainly don't want to make another mistake, but I am human and mistakes happen. I appreciate your post, but now I feel worse. Maybe I should keep my thoughts to myself.

Got terminated from first job cant find new one, still a newgrad
Karen, Thanks for your reply. I don't mean to sound like it is the "end of the world." I am just a little discouraged right now. I have bills to pay, can't find a job, not retaining nursing knowledge, etc...on the other hand, once I get a job, I will learn, and am hoping that what I have read will flood my brain. I am the kind of person that tends to overthink things. I look at all angles, what could happen. Sorry if I sounded like a total bummer!!

Got terminated from first job cant find new one, still a newgrad
Help me cause my head is spinning! My story is pretty much the same except that I got fired due to med error. Let me just state that the pt is fine, no adverse rxn's. But I freaked at the time, and am now scared to death to give meds. I have 4 kids, 3 of them teens, I can handle alot but bringing harm to someone.I want to be a nurse so bad, but not if I can't handle it. I also feel like I can't rememember anything from nursing school. I feel like the average person knows more than I do. I have been reading so that I can feel a little more confident, but I am a hands on learner, and nothing is sticking. Honostly, I got through nursing school one test/paper/clinical/class at a time, and when it was over I think everything left. I don't know what to do. If anyone reads this, I am sorry for ramling. I have had alot building up in my head and sometimes feel like I am going to explode. I really want some honost advice. I am just so down in the dumps thinking that I maybe just wasted 8 years of my life getting through school and my husband and I are now up to our eye balls in debt for something that "I" wanted and now I can't handle it or will not be good at it.

VA Palo Alto New Grad Program
I emailed the nurse recruiter yesterday. She said that she is still sorting through applications, and hoped to be done this week. When the nurse managers get them, they have to sort through them and decide who they want to call for interviews. So I imagine it will take at least a week, maybe 2 before we hear anything. Also, I didn't read anywhere on the app. that having worked as an RN excluded you from the hiring process. I worked for 8 months in LTC. When I asked if that was ok, I was told that having some exp. was better than none. Good luck to everyone who applied!!

I'm feeling dumb........
Dear Hopeful, I know exactly how you feel! But ya know I think we put alot of uneeded pressure on ourselves to get "it" right, right away. We are still learning, and maybe if we learn to not take ourselves so seriously, life and work would be easier! I really think that things will get better for you. I have only worked as an RN for 8 months, and am now unemployed, but my job did get easier for me. For the first few months I broke out in hives and thought that maybe nursing wasn't for me, and I've wanted to be a nurse since I was 12yo. Goals that are good, are never easy at first. Hang in there, and ask your preceptor how she would make things better. If she is going to criticise you then she needs to tell you how to make it better. :redpinkhe

New Grad RN and Cannot Find employment
I am in the same boat, athough I did work for 8 months in LTC. This sucks!!! But, indeed.com has alto of listings for new grad programs throughout the country. You can also try nurse.com and aftercollege.com. All good sites, and I'm sure there are more out there. My question is how and where do you get nurse recruiter's phone numbers? I find that most jobs or hospitals don't list them.

Warfarin is used to prevent stroke. INR should be checked, and between 2.0-3.0. I've seen Amiodorone used to tx a-fib. Need to check heart rate because meds used to tx a-fib can cause bradycardia.

SURVEY for 75 questions on NCLEX RN
I passed it in 75 q's. Had about 5-7 math q's, which I didn't know the answers to (thought for sure I had failed just cause of that!). It took me about 2.5 to 3 hours. Then I started freaking out, and thought if I have to go all the way I am gonna run out of time, so I started to speed up a bit. Yeah!! I am sooo glad that is behind me!!
