I'm in the traditional ADN program at the Highland Lakes campus! It's a great program but a lot of hard work. Are you interested in becoming an RN eventually?

I don't think so but I'm not 100% positive. I think you go on the 3rd of September for lecture to make up for labor day and the following week you go to lab on Tues from 10 - 12 until the end of the semester. Don't quote me on that though. It's hard for me to remember that since last fall. You should call the Nursing department to double check that. I don't want to give you the wrong information. I looked at my syllabus from last fall and looked at check-off dates and it was from September. Again, please call the nursing office so they can tell you the correct dates and times.

Yes, there should be a syllabus for lab for 1410. Lab isn't listed on your bill because it is all tied together with 1410 lecture. So you need a syllabus for lab and one for lecture. The syllabus for lab is slightly thicker than the one for lecture. I found my old one and saw that it cost around $15.

No you will have lab too. You'll have lecture, lab, and 2 clinical days. When you're a 2nd year, you just have lecture and 2 clinical days. Good luck!

If you're talking about NUR 1410, you don't start clinicals until October. You'll probably find out 1 - 2 weeks before from what I remember. I know it's frustrating. I'm a second year student and it gets annoying waiting for the information that you need. You should get your lab info in the mail. If anyone needs help, let me know! I've been there! Congrats!

I'm not on the wait list. I am starting my second year in the Nursing program in September. I only have 4 classes left to graduate! Woo hoo! Once you start the program there will be math tests at the beginning of every semester. They are so easy once you learn the formulas. You'll learn all that in pharmacology. Good luck with your MPT! You'll do great!

If you practiced for a month and used the practice test, you should be fine. I practiced for 2 weeks and did the math until I was comfortable enough to not look at the answers until I was done. If I remember correctly, there is no question regarding what a percent is. But, every test is different. It is multiple choice. It's pretty much like the practice test. There were a few tricky ones but I just used my best judgement. I hope this helps you! Good Luck! You'll do great!

Hey there! I am finishing up my first year of nursing school at OCC and I am in my Med/Surg rotation. Yes, I think Med/Surg has been the hardest class so far. BUT, the clinical part of it is just like acute care that you have in 141 but you have meds added to the mix. I can honestly say that it hasn't been too bad. Every class is time consuming but it's worth it in the end. If you can survive acute care clinicals in 141, you can survive med/surg. Don't believe all the stories you hear about ANY rotation. I have enjoyed all of them so far! If anyone has any questions or needs help, message me! I'd be glad to! Keep up the good work! You can do it!

I've kept all of my syllabi and power points. The pharm syllabus & textbook is helping me out right now because the med/surg book doesn't get too in depth on some drugs and it's a bit more simplified. Try not to worry about the pharm quiz. I know it's a bit overwhelming but you'll be great! You've worked hard to get into the program and you'll be fine. I remember how I felt so I know exactly how you feel! Good luck!

Hi everyone! I was reading some posts and I just wanted to let you all know that you should hang onto your pharm syllabus and text book. It will be really helpful in the future. I just started Med/Surg and with all the meds we need to learn, it has been beneficial to me! Congratulations on getting into the program and good luck!

I'm a first year nursing student that started last fall. Last year's cut off for the Traditional route was 3.612. That's what it stated in my acceptance letter last March. The accelerated program's cut off was around 3.8. What happens is that they send the first 216 acceptance letters out. After that they will send an offer for you to apply to the accelerated program. I forget how many spots are available, maybe 50- 100? I don't remember. Then, when those spots open up they send out more acceptance letters for the traditional route. So, the GPA all depends on who has applied to the program and what their GPA is. Good Luck everyone!

I'm a first year student in the Nursing Program at OCC and I didn't have to wait a year to get in. I was done with my pre-req's in August of 2007, applied in September of 2007 and got accepted in March of 2008. I took pharmacology in May to get that class out of the way and then started in September. So, it all depends on when you finish your pre-req's. I don't think it's easy at all to get into any Nursing programs. OCC is tougher than everyone thinks. We can't get below 80% in our classes. If you do, you fail. I have lecture, lab and clinicals which is 4 days a week and there is A LOT to do. I start my OB class tomorrow and from just looking at the syllabus, it's going to be tough. If you keep your grades up in your pre-req's, you should be fine. OCC just changed the grading system this past Fall. Before you could get a C and pass but now the lowest you can get is a B-. We were told that it was because graduate students that took the NCLEX were not passing as well as they should so they raised the "bar" so to speak. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them!

I'm a first year Nursing student and I'm sure you will be fine. It's a tough program and it doesn't get any easier until the 2nd year, or so I'm told. I just finished my psych rotation and I'm going to OB next. It's been hard like I said but if you study hard and stay focused and on top of things, you'll be great! I wish you the best of luck!

I know how you feel! I knew that I got a bad grade in Chem in high school and I had no idea if I had to take Math or not! You should get a copy of your high school transcripts. You'll need it to apply to the Nursing program. That way a counselor can tell you if you need to take it at OCC. Be sure to talk to a counselor that is familiar with the program.

You only need Math and Chem if you didn't pass them with a C or better in high school or if you didn't take the equivalance of those classes. The 11 above are the classes that count for your GPA for Nursing school.

I like it. I underestimated how hard it would be and I had a crappy instructor for acute care clinicals, but I survived! I start my psych rotation next week, then ob, then med-surg. It's going to be a long 22.5 weeks! You should be able to get in for next fall I would think, especially since you are already going to be a LPN. For phys ed I took stress management. It's an easy A. Congratulations on your graduation! That's great!

Ok, sorry! I'm already in the program, I just thought you didn't know that was 11 classes. Sorry to make you upset.

Yes, I'm in Fundamentals right now (they call it theory). I have class on Monday's which is Fundamentals (theory) lecture. Then I have lab on Thurs/Friday for 3 hours a day. So I'm in school for 9 hours a week. The nursing home clinicals are only for two weeks and it takes the place of our lab class. After all that, I will start acute care clinicals for 7 weeks. So I will be in school 2 days a week( I'll have skils lab on Tues) but have clinicals 2 days a week as well. The instructors told us that we should be study for at least 6 hours per class. Like how many hours the class is times 2. So, I should be studying at least 18 hours a week. So, you could work but I would keep it more ont the 16 hours a week schedule than 24. It's a lot of studying! LOL! Luckily I don't have to work but I hope to get some type of intern/externship this summer. Let me know if I confused you by all this! LOL...I hope it makes sense!

No problem! That class is easy compared to what you will be taking for your program. I'm in the ADN program and it's A LOT of work so get ready! Good Luck!
