I need some really-wide-shoe ideas!
I am starting in a new unit and need some good, comfortable, but wide (4E) shoes. Anyone have ideas? I'm leaning toward New Balance; they normally have wider shoes. I have been wearing Dr. Scholl's wide shoes but there is no grip to the floor and with the salt on the floors, it's like walking in oil! :-) Eric

Yay can't wait!
Thank you very much! I already took a tour of the unit and it's very busy! Actually, my first day on the unit is on Wednesday!

HouTx, that is hilarious! I had forgotten about that "pieces of flair" scene!! Too darn funny!!!!

Too much stuff behind ID badge!!
Does your employer require you to have placards behind your ID badge? Including my ID, we have to keep 9 things on our clips including a mission and values card. Why, oh why, so much stuff?

Yay can't wait!
Hey all! I am done with my first week of classroom orientation for my first job out of NS! I got a position in the float pool in Neurosurgical ICU of a level 1 trauma center near me. Expect a lot of questions from me. Lol!! Can't wait to start on the floor but I know I have a lot to learn still. I am a sponge right now! :-) I couldn't ask for a better position with a good system! I'll stop my rambling now! Peace and blessings.

Soup kitchen
I was wondering if anyone has volunteered at as a soup kitchen as a nurse doing blood pressure screenings. I am thinking of volunteering as a server at a local "soup kitchen" but maybe I could do more...just a thought. Any advice?

New Grad needs EKG help.
Hey everyone! I am a new grad RN who needs help with EKG's. Can anyone suggest a book or cheat sheet to help me get better at EKG's? I have been hired for ICU and have to brush up! Thanks

IDFPR wallet license
Hey all! Newly licensed RN here, wondering if any of you carry your IDFPR license on you? Also, I didn't see anything on the license itself, but are we allowed to laminate the wallet card? It's quite flimsy! Thanks!

Passed in Illinois, still not on IDFPR
I submitted on the 8th of July and it was on the website yesterday!!!

Passed in Illinois, still not on IDFPR
You're welcome! "Welcome" to IL...:-) And congratulations!

Passed in Illinois, still not on IDFPR
You can apply but I have not gotten ANYWHERE just typing in "License Pending" into the license number line. They will send you a Continental Testing letter and on the bottom, you have to tear off the bottom, sign the signature line and send it in with the $50. The state of IL stinks!

Passed in Illinois, still not on IDFPR
You have to send in $50 check or money order in order to get your license, even to get your number on the website. They told me 6-8 weeks. Congrats on passing!!

ED Tech while License Pending???
I'm not a medic but have been an EMT for 7 years in various EMS roles. I was hoping that based on my EMT and my license pending status, I would be a qualified candidate. Thanks for your response.

Passed in Illinois, still not on IDFPR
I just called 2 days ago and I was told that, "due to the renewals that have been received" they are back-logged and are averaging 6-8 WEEKS!!!! I sent mine in on July 8th; I'm really hoping I get it posted by August 6th!!

ED Tech while License Pending???
Hey all! I am still license pending for another possible 6-8 weeks (due to the lovely state of IL...grumblegrumble). I am thinking of applying for an ED Tech position while I wait for my license to come in. What do you experienced nurses think? Is it a waste of my time or is it a good foot in the door to what I hope will be my nursing specialty?

Anyone have these feelings?!?!

Anyone have these feelings?!?!
Maybe I will...I don't know...

Anyone have these feelings?!?!
I hear you!! At least I have slowed down from yesterday checking q5 minutes!!! My state (IL) has a separate website that usually has results faster than PV. Classmates have gotten results by 5 pm the next day. :::crosses fingers::: here's to hoping.

Anyone have these feelings?!?!
I thought about doing the PVT but I don't want to get my hopes up. I don't want to get the cc screen and feel worse than I do.

Anyone have these feelings?!?!
Is it normal to feel absolutely dejected after taking the NCLEX? I was holding my breath as I answered the 75th question and pressed the next button. It turned off!! I am feeling like I just wasted $200!! I have been a basket case since 0900 yesterday. I don't want to get my hopes up and think that I passed. Any advice to this stressed, freaked out, and now nearly bald and fingernail-less BSN?

It is my dream!
Thank you to everyone for responding. I am on a few sites hunting for jobs(Glassdoor, Indeed) and will take a look at the whole United States. But the only problem would be either staying in a motel for a few months or couch hopping until I can get my feet on the ground, wherever I end up!

It is my dream!
As a young child I was extremely sick for a while. It is what propelled into the medical field, first as an EMT-Basic. I have been an EMT for 7 years. I am graduating on Saturday with my BSN. I know there are TONS of threads like this, but how do I get a start in the ED? It has ALWAYS been a dream of mine to be in the ED. Every ED near me requires 2-3 years experience to be considered. Thanks in advance, Eric

An Introvert's Guide To Nursing
As a lifetime introvert just graduating nursing school, I can second everything you had to say. Classmates think I'm: creepy, weird, strange...(insert adjective here) just because I don't crack jokes every time I speak. Or I'm not the loudest when I talk. Or I don't pipe in when we are having a group discussion. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I tell people I am an introvert with slight extroverted tendencies(at clinical only).
