  1. If doctors going to get pay less like Canada. We will be end up paying less and work more hours and more patient ratio.
  2. Thanks to NRSKarenRN, Thanks so much for given those information. I already brought the medical insurance. I want to know if there any books out there will give more information and knowledge about it job. One of my friend told me about the job and she said she will train me if I get hire. I never know that RN can work in a office job like that and I find it interesting to me.
  3. Hi everyone, I just find a new job as RN coder. I want to know what type of things I need to know and what type of things I need to watch out for? Do I have to buy some type of insurance to cover my self? Thanks
  4. Thanks everyone, I am not down anymore. It already happen. I should asked my questions earlier about how to handle my preceptor and communicate with my educator. It might not happen this way, but some of my nursing friends told me that it will still happen because it seems like they did not like me since I step in that door. I am not sure that can be possible. I am not sure. I am new, young and have a higher degree than all the nurses in that floor. My manager is going back to college of get the same degree as I am. I really appreciated everyone comments over there. I just wish I can find another job soon and pay some of my medical bill. The economy is awful out there especially the state I am. Therefore, just crossing your finger and give me the best of wishes. I, personally, do not know who your guys are. But some of your guys in this forum were so understanding and supporting the point that made me cried..
  5. Sorry to heard that. I hope you can move on. Just make sure they are not put any blacklist on you otherwise it is hard for you to find another job. It happen to me when my job fired me and I had a hard time finding a job. People are not nice out there. I learn that from my previous experience.
  6. I had the exact same experience with my preceptor. She told my manager that I am not good in this and that. She also said that she had to help me with paper work and calling doctors. Then, two days ago. I was fire from my work because my manager said I make mistakes and all these things I done wrong. It felt like I had done nothing right in that floor. The day they evaluated me for my orientation, a patient fell and my evaluator was there the entire time. Then around 8:00 I had 4 patients med to give and had to wait for my evaluator to check the med before I can give it. At 11:00 I had a discharge patient. Calling doctor to finish paper work and give information to patient. 1 patient came back from CT- of the head. Around 1:00 New patient admission. Then, I had 2 and 4 o'clock medication. Then my evaluator give me 2 more patients. Then at 4 I had discharge patient again, but I did not have time to finish my other works. My evaluator helped me discharge the patient. In given report, I did not describe my patient skin assessment. The next day... You know what happen... My manager just complain on the things I had done wrong on the floor. My manager told me that I am fire and also blacklist in the computer system. I wonder can I find another job some where else just not in the same health system? If you feel that he is going to fail you. I believe you should quit and get another job because if they terminated you. It is hard to find another job out there. I hope this help you. I feel really sorry that you have to go through like the way I did. You just have to move on because some preceptors are do not have the patience and they are not welling to teach you everything. They want to show their seniority. I am looking for place where people are more patient and understand that you are new...
  7. Thanks everyone! I will keep the advise and move on. I believe things happen for a reason and GOD bless you all... I read enough posts. Therefore, no more posting please. My email is full....
  8. This is how I write my progress note: Patient VSWNL, BS clear, soft and symmetry. LS is clear bilaterally. Skin WNL and no sign of edema. Maintained patient safety.
  9. To Ms. RN Thanks for your understanding. I had to take many phone orders from doctors and it is hard to understand them on the phone. They never had problem spelling out the medication for me. But my preceptor had problem with that.
  10. Thanks to the people who are so nice to me... English is my forth language..I speak Spanish, Italian, English and French... I want to respond to some of the post. I did not make any medication error or miss spell the medication because I always double check my spelling. I did a calculation error because I was new to the computer system.
  11. Once again thanks so much.... I really appreciated everyone for their support and love. I had passion in this career. I just wish that nurse will be respected in their career.
  12. Hi everyone, Thanks for everyone support, especially the one who always answering my questions. English is not my second language. I can pronounce things really well. It just when it comes to medical terminology. I was having difficulty because I was really nervous and after 12 hours shift. I also intended to talk really fast and that made some mistake. I had done some mistake in my wording and pronunciation, but not all the time, but because I had done once and people kept picking on it. When I do not know or my mind has freeze due to 12 hours shift. I just spelled for the nurse. When I wrote my sentence in order sheet I wrote it not the way my preceptor wrote it. I wrote the same way as my previous preceptor wrote it and also asked the clerk to reread for me and she told me it is fine before I give it to her, but my preceptor said that not how I should write it. I can said I had preceptor before I graduated and she was really happy and they were welling to hire me, but I refused because I want to go somewhere near my house. What a mistake that I made... I never have a doctor complaints on me before. The doctor who I talked to, they are really nice to me. They are welling to spell the medication for me because they have a strong accent and it is hard for me to understand because they speak the Queen English. I did not accept that patient's gift. I told the patient I am really happy and felt so special a. (Answer to one of responder) The mistake that hospital make is not because people miss communicating but because people have no time to communicate and no time check and balance. I saw many doctors wrote wrong orders and even came to wrong patient room and done the wrong procedure. Do you think that doctor who done the wrong procedure was not communicating well or he just don't have time to double check himself...
  13. Hi everyone, I came to work today and felt something was wrong already. Nurses were looking at me like they wonder why I was still there. My manager came in to work and then he told me we need to go to HR. I follow him and wonder what is going on. He did not told me that he is going to fired me. He told me that we are going to HR and talk to them about my orientation. He started telling the lady in HR that I did many mistake and they had been going over my mistake many times ever since last months. My mistake was miss pronouncing the name of the diagnosis and can not critically think. I defense myself that I tried to learn it and tried my best to pronounce those diagnosis especially the long words. I also told him that when I had a hard time. I spell for the nurses, but he said I can not do that. It just take too much of the time and people will complaint on you. Then he complaint about that I did not catch one of the doctor mistake for writing the same medication. In my mine in that time, I did not know should i argued with him or not because if someone wanted to fired you they do not need you to explain or if they willing to let you explain they won't fired now. I still go ahead and explain to him and HR lady about it because I was not the one who signed the order off and I was not one who saw that order. I saw it in the computer, but then we have many medication for people with HTN. How should I know that those two medications are the same medications where they have different names. I was upset by it because I was new and I am still learning. I learned from it and the second time I saw it. I told my preceptor and call the pharmacy. But my nurse preceptor did not tell my manager about it. She only told him what I done wrong. Then he told me that the doctor hang up the phone on me once and I had to asked doctor to spell medication order for me. I was felt so sad that my manager had done this to me because I asked doctor to spell the medication out for me because I am the one who going to write the order in behave of the doctor and I do not want to write the wrong order or wrong medication. I was just making sure I am given the right things to my patients. The doctor who hang up on me. It is not my fault that the doctor hang up on me because he was busy. I was so sad because he is against me with these things. I am new in the floor with many nurses who have so many years of hospital experiences. They compared me with them. I felt so awful. Now I had to look for another job. He said fired me I can not look for job in their system anymore. I was so sad because I did not did a mistake that kill someone. I did not hurt anyone. I know I had limited experience because I did not have much of nursing experience. He told me to find a job in nursing home and get more experience before coming back to the hospital or take some classes about how to pronounce some of the terminology. I was so stock by it. I came home and told my family exactly what happen. They said they believe it because that how he can over his position. I really do not feel it is fair for him to do that. I never have a patients who complaints on me. I did some mistake, but i learn from it. I had patients who buy me gift and things like that. Felt so unfair that my preceptor did not tell them things I done right and they have to wait for my preceptor not there to fired me. I had no one who can back me up or anything. Now I got fire and can never apply for any job under that system as well as I don't know how to find another job with this economy and how to tell people that I got fired or I leave the job.
  14. Thanks everyone for so supporting, I quit the job. Well, not welling to quit, but they only give that option to me. They wait until my preceptor not there and my manager told me in front of this other lady what I did wrong and nothing great about me. I was really upset because he only listen to one side of the story. All he said were things that I listed up there. That like one month ago and then he told me that he told someone to evaluated me and I did not described my patient well. I was so almost argued with him, but then I felt it is all right because he already want to fire you when he welling to listen to your problem. If these people welling to listen to your problem. They already help you long time ago. I am so unhappy. It is my first job and I thought I can support my family with this job. It felt really harsh and he told me that I can not apply for job in the system. But I still want thanks so much for everyone who so supportive and understanding of me. I am glad there are nice people out there. Just wish I can find a job soon before the medical bill comes. Then deal with some out side stress from family of my side and my fiance's side. All I can said I went into a really bad environment, but in that really bad environment I learn something and there are really nice patients who love me and bring me present.
  15. Feel really sorry for you. I hope you find someone who can babysit for you or find someone who take the shift for you. It is hard because it seems like your DON has no understanding.
