Bowling Green Tech. College - Glasgow
I am currently in that program and so far I am loving it. It is very fast paced and challenging, and at the end of the day you better know your stuff or you WILL NOT pass. I am a little offended, though, that you think it's going to be easy to get into the RN program- What on earth gives you an idea like that? I know that we had over 80 applicants for the 20 spots available for the first program offered, and even more are expected for the next class in 2010. The LPN program is also not easy to get into or to pass. We started with 65 and only about 34 are still with us. These programs are highly competitive, and if you are thinking to just breeze on in due to it being a small town, I think you're in for a reality check.

Do you study from your text books ?
I seldom open my books except when the instructor references a particular page or diagram. I have found taking notes and paying attention to what the instructor feels is important gets me through the tests. I learn additional material with other books than my texts- I like information straight to the point without excessive wordiness, which is a HUGE fault of most textbooks. I like the Incredibly Easy series, and I practice NCLEX questions by system being covered because it gives rationales. I always need to know the 'why' of something to understand it better.

To Be Or Not To Be
When I first started clinicals for CNA class in preparation for nursing school, I really questioned if this was for me. I hated every moment of it and went home so depressed I felt like crying. Some of the residents are so pitiful, and the CNA care can be so repetitive that I sincerly hated going and would have missed as many hours as possible if I had had that option (our program doesn't allow you to miss any time in clinicals for CNA certification). Now as a I am nearing the end of my second semester of Nursing school, I love what I do. I still would not want to be a fulltime CNA in long term care, but changing briefs and giving bedbaths are not the entirety of my day. The time you spend here is going to be essential in your development as a nurse. Look at it as a learning tool that will help you hone your assessment skills which are so important. Don't give up!

How much per semester did you nursing school cost?
My program awards an AAS, takes 2 years, and costs $1850.00 a semester plus books, ATI testing and other misc. Books for this semester alone cost almost $500!!!. Can anyone explain why I have to spend 80 dollars on a PAPERBACK book???? Just seems a tad excessive....:icon_roll
