  1. Capital Health in New Jersey has one as well
  2. Penn will not hire unless you have a BSN. Also nether will a lot of the city hospitals. My floor is a med/surg and our ratio is 4/5 we can have 1-2 cna's on the floor depending on availability. If we have 1:1's that means less cna's for the floor.
  3. I live in the area and they only hire BSN nurses. We are so saturated here with new nurses because we have many schools just churning out new grads.
  4. Believe me the other floors that do every third are not always great. The grass sadly is not always greener on the other side. #upennproblems
  5. How do you change out the tubing?
  6. I know that they have restructured the program some since I've left. There were some assignments I feel were busy work, in the other hand some were helpful. I think the professors were split. I think a few really cared and were great at there job. Some just read off the powerpoints and were useless! I also think there has been change in staff since I have been there as well. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
  7. I graduated from HFU spring 11'. I think nursing school in General is hard. What I do know is our class had 100% pass rate. I feel that the clinicals aren't the best. Although, once you pass the boards you learn on the job! Best of luck.
  8. Also we have a whole seizure wing that falls under neurology
  9. I work on a combined neuro/neurosurg floor. Neurology primarily consists of stroke (ischemic/hemmoragic), MS, MG, optic neuritis, numbness and tingling, migraine, slurred speech. Neurosurg brain tumor, spinal surgery
  10. fireball78 Im located in the philly area. I really would like to do inpatient hospice. I have about 6 month experience in a fast paced medsurg unit. I've been apply all over the place for inpatient, but have had no luck at all. I haven't heard back from anyone. How are you liking your job? What does you day look like? What is you patient ratio? Any suggestions on getting my foot in the door at an inpatient hospice unit?
  11. That sounds insane!
  12. I work at a large university hospital on a neuro/neurosurg thats classified as a med/surg floor but we also often have pts on tele. Our ratios are usually 5:1 occasionally if staffing is really good we have 4. Mostly 5 tho, also our acuity is at a high level. At times I think that this can be unsafe but thats how it is.
  13. I think that's a good wage. I too am a new grad from Pa who just excepted a job at a major city hospital for 2.00 more per hr. My cost of living is higher near the city and I also have to pay city wage tax, and that's not even including the crazy parking fees I have to pay. They are still offering the same starting wage as they were on 07'. Its hard out there for new grads. So I would personally take the job. Get your experience and move on down the road if you still aren't satisfied.
  14. First of all congrats on pasing the boards! I am a new grad as well that just started my first job 2 weeks ago. I believe that just showing up would be pushy. You don't know what the manager has planned for the day and she may not have time to talk to you. Also, so units are closed units like mine. We would never just let someone thats isnt supposed to be there come onto the unit for patient safety reasons. But I would strongly urge you to reach out to anyone you already know in the field ans ask them to ask around if any floors are hiring. Send them your resume and they can tell their manager. Networking is key to getting a job in today's market, especially for a new grad with new experience. Good luck in your search and hopefully you lasnd something soon.
