Good Aspects Of Med-Surg Nursing?
Med surg is a specialty on its own. We see a diversity of medical conditions that expand our knowledge day by day. I always said I didnt want to start in Med surg but now I am so glad I did. It has made me more comfortable in all aspects of nursing.

Ever feel overwhelmed trying to remember things?
Everyday that I go to work I feel overwhelmed. I've been working on a med surg unit for 2 months already and there has not been one day that I have not felt overwhelmed. Im a perfectionist when it comes to my work but now that im a new grad it is very difficult for me because as all us new grads know........ we arent that great at prioritization and time management. It kills me to not completely understand my patients condition or why they are on certain medications that I have never even heard of before. I knew my patho when in school but for some reason now that im working I feel as if its all brand new stuff. There is just toooooo much information out there. You are not alone. Maybe we can get some pointers from the experienced nurses on how they did it as new grads to overcome the anxiety and being overwhelmed. At firlst I thought I was just being to rough on myself but I see there are alot of people out there that feel the same way I do.

HELP! Newbie nurse need your advice!
Im really sorry to all of you nurses that are struggling. I can just imagine how hard you guys are having it. Im a new nurse also and have been working on the med-surg unit for 3 weeks. Did you know that it wasn't working out for you within the first week of work? If so, I think you should have spoken up. It sounds like you are struggling and I agree with everyone else here...... talk to your manager. Thank God, I have been blessed with a wonderful preceptor. She consistently checks on me and is always explaining stuff to me. Even though she already told me something 3x she says she doesnt care if she has to tell me 10 more times. She understands what its like to be a new nurse and how scared I am. She always tells me "I went through the same thing, and I know its hard to remember everything". I really wish you the best. You deserve to be trained the right and safe way. Your story is so insane and If I was in your shoes I would be looking for another job. But definately...talk to get out of that hospital.Hopefully everything works out for you. Keep us posted of what happened.

Tips for nurses in their first year of nursing
I graduated in June and I have been working for 3 weeks in the med-surg unit. I just want to find out from anyone that can help as to how long did it take you to prioritize your patients needs and how to succeed in time management? My preceptor says im doing good but need to improve in both those catagories. Which I believe is still normal for me since I have only been working for 3 weeks. I just feel like I need to be in 5 different places at one time. It drives me up the wall. How can I work in improving this? I try to start my day a little different each day but im still struggling. HELP!!!!!!!!

iNTERVIEWING FOR IP POSITION
Hi everyone. Im 3 weeks away from gradutating........:w00t: and soooooooo excited!!!! But I do have a question about interviewing for a position with an interim permit. I attended a New Grad dinner last week where I turned in my application to the Nurse manager for the Med- Surg unit. I was called today by that same nurse manager wanting me to come in for an interview next week. Now believe it or not but I am 30 years old and have had 3 jobs. Two of these jobs were in a medical office and the other was restaurant buisness. In neither of those jobs did I have to interview to obtain my job, I just happened to know people in all 3 places :hehe:. So basically I have no idea what types of questions I am going to be asked. I dont even know what I should take with me to the interview. Pretty much I need all your guys help on what the heck to expect. The only thing I do know to do is dress professionally .......So if I can get any pointers from anyone and everyone I would definately appreciate it soooo much. Thanks guys, I know I can count on you.
