  1. Artificial feeding-Terri Schiavo

I agree. We need to ponder this, and look for the human spirit in all these cribbled, brain damaged, or retarded people. What makes us human? What makes us want to become a nurse? Why is one student nurse changing her major after listening to all us ...
  2. Artificial feeding-Terri Schiavo

This priest that testified in this case isn't following what his bishop said. go to http://www.priestsforlife.org/ to see what the bishop and the pope has said. In the Catholic faith, the pope and the Archbishops and bishops are the policy makers,...
  3. Artificial feeding-Terri Schiavo

As a nurse, I hope everyone of you are patient advocates.
  4. Artificial feeding-Terri Schiavo

Kyriaka and others that are standing up for life. Keep up the good work. The Human Life Alliance at http://www.humanlife.org is a great organization. The Pope has a stand on this for any Catholic nurses. I tried in the past to express myself on this ...
  5. Must we all die with a feeding tube?

Anytime someone close to you dies, it is devasting. The loss of a parent is devasting. I know, I've been there. It doesn't matter how old they are, they are still our parents. I've also comforted many families when their parents died. Yes, there is ...
  6. Must we all die with a feeding tube?

Please don't jump to conclusions before reading about Terri Schivo's case at this web site http://www.terrisfight.org/ She is a disabled person, she is not brain dead or in a vegtatative state. Florida's legislature pasted a law, which Jeb Bush, the ...
  7. Must we all die with a feeding tube?

  8. Male nurse kills 40 patients...what do you think?

I am a nurse to promote life and ease suffering, I am not God. Patients should have a living will, which would help the doctor decide at what point to give in to the human condition of dying and stop measures to prolong life of a terminally ill per...
  9. BPH and Catheters

Thanks Geeg, I only have one of my 3 men still living. Their deaths weren't connected to a UTI. This patient also has bladder spasms and occasionally hematuria without infectoin. The urologist finely started him on Ditropan for the spasms. His dement...
  10. Constant Faller

He sounds like he needs a restraint, after you do all your supporting documentation. He needs to walk and tire himself out, and be toileted, repositioned and fed and given fluids and everything else, like labs done before you do a restraint. He needs...
  11. BPH and Catheters

One of my guys are going to Urology next week and I need to get some more ideas. The last time this guy was sent to urology, the MD just said to push fliuds. He has dementia and we feel like we are really "forcing fluids", to a sweet old man who kindl...
  12. Ideas for recruitment in LTC

MY DON lets all RNs work every 3rd weekend. We all take turns at holidays, but it works out to one or two a year. We only get 6 holidays paid a year. LPNs didn't like it much , but they aren't the ones in shortage. boxermom
  13. BPH and Catheters

I posted this on the urology board, but it probably should be in Geriatrics. I work in LTC. I have 3 men with BPH with either Supra Pubic Catheter or a regular cath. I need help. We routinely use leg bags 24/7, which I've been told have anti-reflux v...

I work in LTC. I have 3 men with BPH with either Supra Pubic Catheter or a regular cath. I need help. We routinely use leg bags 24/7, which I've been told have anti-reflux valves on them. These poor guys, with the SP cath, continue to get UTI's. The...
