  1. I second that! Thank you so very much for posting this link :yeah:
  2. I'm currently at Bohecker also, I would like to know more about RIO Grand. I went to the website and there was limited info on the online program, could you tell me more it would be about a 2 1/2 hour drive from my house to there campus but if most of it is online it might be worth it to me. Thanks for your post and help Brie
  3. I'm confused..... what is the diffeance between nursing school and English, history etc. As Nurses would it be ethical to look away if no one got hurt except for the nurse.........after dealing with this I don't think I could agree.
  4. thank you for all of your reples, I can see that is is a conflict for most as it is for me. I thought maybe I was just being super sensitive or a "big baby" for feeling upset and uneasy about the whole thing. The student I'm talking about has a BA(in another subject) already just needs the nursing part as she wants to get a masters in Nursing to be a NP. we are not just in the first quarter nearing the end of the program and yes she is at clinicals 2-3 times a week passing meds, wound care, patient care, Etc. SO I'm concerned. What if she can just bearly make it. Passing the NCLEX with no points to spare is still passing right? So no she might not be able to cheat on it but she just might have learned enough to get by. BTW she told me she changed the answers also as she saw that I noticed, I just walked away from her, didn't want to discuss it. I'm going to call the instructor and talk to her wish me luck that it doesn't bite me in the butt. Thank you again for all of your replies. I'm also interested in the fine line another poster mentioned would love to hear any addional thoughts on that.
  5. Am I unethical if I let it go.........
  6. self grading;students checking own papers - the insnstructor reads the answers out loud and we mark the wrong answers/checking grading the papers together as a class sorry I should have been more clear
  7. I need guidance, I saw one of my classmates cheating on our mid-term pharm test. We self grade so she changed about 12 answers to get a passing grade. NOT only did I see her but in the hall after grading she told me she had to change them just to barely pass. I got an 83% and passing is 78% so sure I wanted a better grade to but would never have changed my answers. Ethicly I think I know what to do, I just don't want to be a tattle tail and she knows I know so there is my catch 22 . I guess what I'm asking is what would you do?
  8. If you are a self study type of person who will use the classroom just for renforcement I think you will love Galen. If you are already an LPN they will cater to you. IF you need to be tought the material you my have a little trouble. It is a very quick paced program. I went to Galen in Cincinnati. I chose to move to another program that is an LPN then Bridge to ASN. As I felt I wasn't getting the materal presented to me in the maner in which I learn best. There are a few other issues that I had with policys and how they were inforced. I beleive It has the potenial to be a great progam. They are having growing pains though. I just couldn't risk being a part of them working out all the bugs. I wish you pleanty of luck whereever you chose to go. Any program will be intense and fast paced for the most part.
  9. Yes, I'm in the day-classes at Bohecker in Cincinnati. I recieved my letter yesterday. Feel free to sent me a personal message if you want to. Brie

well I had to same experiance that big cat had but only at Galen in Cincinnati. There were promises of all kinds of assitance etc. but once inrolled and they had your money all they would say is this is and advanced program and you should be studing on your own. It happens at more schools than we would like to think. IMHO! I'm going to try Bohecker (Rets) in cincinnati.
  11. I'm going to the day classes. Hoping to not have to work until I finnish school. It all depends on my husbands business, if it continues to be busy or not.
  12. just think about where the advice was coming from, was the adivce coming from a person happy with their career/job? sometimes its in the eyes of the beholder. Just because it is bad for them means nothing for your son. I wish him all the luck he may or may not need.

I'm not the original post author but I would like to know anything you can tell me. Thanks
  14. I have just withdrawn from a nursiung school and have completed most of the admissions for Bohecker in Cincinnati, I plan on starting in April. The other school I went to took about 6,500 of my money. the last straw was when the A & P Instructor was allowing people to cheat on the the muscles exam and when I complained about it I was treated like I did something wrong. I'm really hoping this is the right choice also, afriad of losing mony and time again. Good luck to you :)
  15. I'm not a smoker, a child of a smoker, Grandchild of a smoker ect. My whole family smokes. I was always sick as a child, sometimes on 5 or 6 meds at a time due to asthma, allergies ect. If I wasn't old enough to buy the "smokes" then why was I old enough to be smoking? (secondhand starting before birth). No it isn't child abuse, I guess. But if it is illegal for the children to buy cigarettes then maybe it should be illeagal for them to consume(breath the smoke). It is illegal for persons under the age of 21 to buy or consume alcohol. Don't judge the smoker, try to be suportive of them, as it is a very hard addiction to break. I've watched my grandmother breakdown crying trying to wait to smoke while around me and my children as she didn't want to have to sneak away to smoke, as she knows how much I dissaprove of smoking, and she was trying to quit and wanted me to be proud of her. She is almost 80 I'm proud of her for not smoking around my kids, in the house, in the car or any other inclosed space. Outside is the best that I can hope for, in the winter months she turns on the bathroom fan and opens a window and smokes in the bathroom. She loves and respects me as much as I do her. Find a happy compromise. Sorry so long and personal. A subject close to my heart. I could share opinions/situations for days, tried to keep it short and make sense.
  16. I'm currently enrolled. You need to call and speak with Wendy Cappallelo (spelling) at the school, you can find the number on the Galen website. I've heard many things. Most people only want to tell me the bad, But I've spoken to a poster/moderator on this site that was actually a teacher at Galen, and they stated they loved the school and so did their students some of which are still in contact with them. Depending on where you want to go with you education after needs some consideration. Make sure the college you want to attend later will accept the credits from your ADN school/college. Galen is working on accreditation and partnerships with local colleges. I start July 28th. We have quite a few students in my starting class that are from other schools who were unhappy. I won't mention names but they have been mentioned before a spoke of as wonderful schools. You should call and and speak Wendy and go in and take a tour so you can judge for yourself
  17. I'm sure you are studing very hard and deserve your Grade........But doesn't it make you think "what if he is just giving me the grade and I'm really not earning it?" It's not fair to you either. I think the situation needs to be brought to light while leaving you out of it as much as possible. I agree you shouldn't hurt your self while trying to help others. I would copy the paper with leaving my name off of it......anonymously drop of a copy of your paper and one of the others showing the vast difference in grading maybe? Leaving your names off of the copies.
  18. Talk to NP or MD and Keep following up with them. IF you are unsure of the treatment being provide for your needs seek a second opinion from and MD or NP. Please don't try to self diagnose, and treat.
  19. I'm not a nurse yet. waiting for a reply to start school. I just wanted to share my experience at the hospital with my grandmother and just how the family can sometimes make a difference in the care the patient received. In no way am I suggesting that the OP was problematic, but my family was. In trying to keep story condensed it maybe a little vague, in parts. My grandmother Fell and broke her hip 1/17/08 and was released from the hospital 1/24/08. She has emphysema and congestive heart failure, is 68 and up until the broken hip caused by a very hard fall not weak bones worked over 40 hours a week not out of necessity but because she enjoys working. The entire time she was in the Hospital one of my aunts or my self stayed with her as she didn't want to be alone in the hospital. On more that one occasion, one and sometimes both of my aunts went on rants to the nursing staff, calming neglect and mistreatment. They also had it out the the PT staff demanding to speak to PT manager. Multiple I times tried to explain that the nursing staff were doing their job.:innerconf Yes, sometimes it took a little while for someone to come in after they answered the call light to see what was needed. My family members seemed to have a misconception that the nurse was just standing around waiting for us to call for something. On two occasions they sent the nurse aid (bath time) and respiratory therapy (breathing treatment) away. Once because my grandmother was tired and another due to waiting on a visitor to arrive. They complained about neglect on the hospitals part, how were the medical staff supposed to do there jobs when being prevented. A lot of there complaints were about stuff we could help out with, when we preformed the tasks my grandmother was more comfortable anyways, (food trays, water, cold cloths, helping toilet once showed how to use walker). I could go on and on. I get really upset when I see nurses being abused. My biggest fear is not knowing how to deal with abusive and controlling family and it getting in the way of patient care as it did with my grandmother. Sorry of such a long post this subject is close to my heart on both sides.:redpinkhe
  20. Be careful with the free classes sometimes they require you to work for a particular facility for them to be 'Free'. Most classes in my area are $500.00 or more depending on the teaching site. Then there is a cost for the test. Not sure of your area but Tech schools in my area also require pre-reqs, for the class. Most of the pre-reqs are just basics proving that you have a base education to build on but that also maybe an additional cost not include with the tuition for the STNA classes. If you could work at a LTC facility and care for you mother that maybe the cheaper rout. They will usually pay for you to take the classes and the test if you work for them. If you quit before a specified amount of time they may also ask for you to pay them back. Good Luck, It is worth looking in to.
  21. i'm sorry that you were treated badly. don't stoop to his level and blow your top, he made plans and this baby wasn't a part of the plan or his schedule. he couldn't go in and yell at the baby or the mother so you're the one who got it. professional and personal i've blown up at the wrong person who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time for them but right place for me.(maybe this is what happend with the doctor) i have had heated words that i have regretted even though they may deserve it, it makes you look bad and sometimes foolish if just by chance they were in the right about the point just wrong in the delivery of the complaint. sometimes they are wrong in the complaint and the delivery but it could still make you look bad to the people who count. hang in there you only have control over yourself. you seem to be a great person and nurse. i would try to talk to the doc. it's better to repair the bridge, than to just burn it down as you may need to cross it again one day. brie:innerconf
  22. I'm new to allnurses and hoping to gain some insight in to the process of nursing school and nursing in general. years ago 1999 to be exact I was a nurse aid and had plans to become a nurse. I had one child and then while pregnant with my 2nd child had to stop working as a nurse aid due to complications. Decided to be a stay at home mother. I then went back to school took classes for a Real estate license. after a year working in the Field I just don't feel its what I should be doing. It's just not where my heart is. Who, what, caused you to consider nursing as a career? How did you know that it was the right career choice? what advice would you give to someone considering nursing as a career? Any other thoughts opinions or advice would be great too. I just feel a little lost, worried and scared. Thanks
