  1. I just finished my LTC rotation and understand your frustration. I found it very helpful to ask the aides about how to work with the residents. They work with them everyday so they can tell how to best communicate, what their routine is like, and also offer you good general insights. Aides were my key to LTC! Good luck!
  2. I am in the beginning of a 2 year program and just found out that I need a total hip replacement. I am having surgery 12/15 and will have 6 weeks before I need to be back on the floor. Has anyone had a hip replacement here? I am absolutely planning in being back to clinicals on time. I am 40 and in good health and absolutely commited to my education. Is this realistic?
  3. I am not sure but check with Brandywine Hospital, I know they have LPN. If they don't offer CNA ask them to refer you, they were very helpful when I called them during my R.N. program search. Good luck.
  4. I was in the same boat until last Friday when I could finally give my notice. I started the process about 9 months ago and the closer I got to my notice date the more miserable I was, I agree with the person who said it's like living a double life. What got me through was a lot of surfing on nursing, A&P tutorial sites, dosage calc sites and complaining to husband and friends about how I was sure I would die of terminal impatience. My last day of work is 5/23 and I start A&P 5/27. Nursing school starts 9/2. Woohoo! Hang in there. While we may someday miss an office job it's no consolation now as you are so close to an exciting new chapter in your life. It will be here soon, I promise!
  5. I am crossing days off the calendar until 1) I give my notice at work 5/2 and 2) have my last day of work 5/23 I just took my CRP cert this weekend and have my physical in 2 weeks. I need to order my uniform and start shelling out the big bucks for books. I am so excited. This has been in progress for me for the last 9 months and I am so happy the time to go to school ft is finally (well, almost) here! Aside from practical stuff of the school's to do list, I am working on building some exercise back into my days. I know school is going to be really stressful, and I know nursing is very physical so I want to be in good shape. Plus, I feel like a load and just turned 40 so I want to nip this weight gain and sedentary lifestyle in the bud! I am also cleaning cabinets and closets so I feel like my house is in good order while I have the time. Also to prevent the procrastinator in me from saying that I absolutely have to organize the linen closet before study/project/hw -- I hate to clean but that's a classic diversion for me!
  6. Check the specialty forum, you will find info on holistic nursing there. Good luck.
  7. They need an experienced person to handle marketing and sales. I am on this site because I am in sales and management and starting nursing school in the fall. I'm so glad that I can finally answer a question posted here! I am actually in the staffing business and think that a contract employee with sales and marketing experience is a good thing to consider. This will allow you to get expertise to bring your product to the market without having to hire an employee. Another thought is contacting a company that does third party sales and marketing. I often find that the creative minds behind development do not have the experience to effectively promote their products. Partnering with an expert will give them the best chance of getting in front of the right people. At the very least I would get an intern to do market research to identify prospects. This sounds exciting, good luck!
  8. I am fortunate to have a supportive husband and the means to do without my income for a couple of years so I am definitely going to focus 100% on school. I will stop working the end of May to take A&P this summer and will start nursing school late August.
  9. I just got my letter too. I have the initial orientation on March 5th, maybe they are splitting Chesco/Delco or day/night? I am really excited for 4/18 when we get the real sccop about what's coming. Woohoo!
  10. No answer for you Tilda, but I would like to add to your question. Do older nurses travel or is this more typical for young, traditional age students right out of school?
  11. I am not a nurse (yet!) so I will not weigh in on any of the issues already discussed, however I question if stockpiling a drug is a good idea, don't the active ingredients lose effectiveness after a period of time? Isn't that the point of drug expiration dates? Can't using a drug after the expiration date make it ineffective in the best case and dangerous in the worst?
  12. Hopefully we'll hear about the meeting soon. I'm in the day program. I am taking 1 credit Math for nurses and also Med terminology in the spring. I'll take A&P over the summer.
  13. Tichi - I'm in the Chester County program, sounds like you're in DC. I am sooo excited for the meeting in the spring to learn more details about the program - see you there! Are you taking any classes this spring or summer?
  14. I don't think you are stuck. The professional thing to do is go back to offer #1 and give them the opportunity to match offer #2. You need to make the best decision for yourself.
  15. I will be 42 and plan to bridge to BSN after that. I will do pre-reqs FT over the summer and start the nursing program in September. I'm psyched and scared!!!
