What is a REGISTRY nurse??
I'm a new grad and looking for jobs right now online. There are many postings for registry RN jobs. I've asked, and someone told me a registry nurse is when they work per diem/prn and they float around the hospital... and is usually someone who has experience as a nurse. Is that true? I'm so confused. Will someone enlighten me?

Failed... Want to transfer to a new school. Please Help!
Hey Butterfly, keep your head up!! Don't feel so defeated. First of all, young or old, it doesn't matter how old you are. People at all ages make mistakes. Maturity has nothing to do with making mistakes clincially or being unprofessional. I've seen plenty of "older nurses" being nowhere near professional. The first part when you stated that those are stupid questions... I don't think it's that big of a deal at ALL. The fact that your instructor pulled u to the side is enough for you to remember not to do that next time. If you said it in a joking or relaxed way toward the patient, that's understandable in my opinion. The 2nd and 3rd, yes I think those are a big deal, but you know what, you live you learn, and this will help you become a better nurse! I hope you feel better, and that it's not the end of the world. If you transfer out, just remember that some nursing schools may or may not transfer over your nursing courses that you've taken already. email and call other schools while researching them online or whatever. Good luck hun and keep your head up

How do I know?
Hi there, I am the same age as you and it took me FOREVER to finally pick a major. I start NS in a few weeks! Your username is "Ihatecomputers" :chuckle so perhaps it's time for a change? Happiness is what matters. I think you should totally shadow your mom or someone you know that is a nurse for a day and see what it's like in that field. I think it's awesome that even doctors - more than 1 - see that potential in you. PLUS you worked at a nursing home and you loved it. That should make you feel more at ease about pursuing nursing. About wasting your time and effort: You have a bachelor's in computer science, so nursing schools that have an accelerated program (which a lot do nowadays), will only take one year! Isn't that awesome? Since I do not have a BS, I have to take the full 2 years of the nursing program. Of course, like you said, you may have to take prereq's again if they are outdated depending on the nursing school's you're looking at. When I did my homework and research on all the NS's in my area, I noticed some wanted me to have my science prerequisites within 5 years. Some just cared about my chemistry and Anatomy classes and they really didn't care hwo long ago my other classes were taken, and etc.. Who knows, maybe you won't have to take that many over like you think depending on which school you look at. Like everyone tells me, the field is extremely vast. So you have lots of choices. Good luck to you, and let me know what happens!! Hope everything works out great for you.

~West Suburban College of Nursing VERSUS North Park U. Nursing?~
Hi Donna, I appreciate your reply. How long is the weekend/night bsn program? I have decided on WSCN as well, for January, although not the weekend/night program you're going into. I'm in the generic program. I agree with you 100%, West Sub has a great faculty. They're pretty reliable with all my questions and concerns. Both of their couselors (elizabeth fern and zach sujith) are super friendly, professional, and great. NPU's admission is not as orgranized. I hope the professors at WSCN reflects their faculty's good work =). I had heard from one student that goes to West Sub that the teachers there are NOT very enthusiastic, yet from another source, a different student told me that she really likes it there. So I've got mixed reviews. As long as I learn a lot, I'm satisfied. I am very excited and scared at the same time!! Good luck w/the program, and your 5th child!!

I was wondering which is harder Micro or A&P2?
a&p ii alll the way!! i thought micro was pretty easy, caues you didn't have to memorize as much as anatomy, and the concepts are much easier to understand. good luck

Ok...I need to get this off my chest...
I think maybe you have the jitters just like everyone else. Being a mom is hard and LOTS of work! So you have MORE responsibilities added to nursing school. I don't have kids, but I can imagine the amount of worries you have. You're just being a goog parent. I have seen a lot of mothers go into nursing. If they can do it, you can too. And you're doing nursing school FOR your kids so that's always a good thing I have so much to do like immunizations/titers before school starts, I feel unprepared!!

PHEW I am so glad I'm not the only one. I start in January too, and feel SOO WEIRD about not working and not having any paychecks!! I think I'm more scared than excited about NS. I hope the professors are cool, and students aren't catty. Oh god, I hope I don't hate nursing school ...... :uhoh21:

Nursing School Jitters?
I start in January too and I've got jitters too! We start our orientation class which is a one week course before all our other classes start - from 8-5 even on a saturday!! What I'm mostly scared about is how stressed I'll get. I keep reading these threads on this site of how everyone hates NS, and how overwhelming it is. My friends are in NS as well and they complain like crazy. I am soo hoping I'll do ok and not have some nervous breakdown!

~West Suburban College of Nursing VERSUS North Park U. Nursing?~
Hi everyone. I got into WSCN for Spring 2008, and North Park University for the BSN undergrad program (non accelerated). Did anyone else get accepted?? If so, say hi! So I am wondering... which school is better? Which school has better and cooler teachers? A higher NCLEX pass rate? Anyone here a former student of WSCN or North Park? PLEASE, I would love to hear your opinions and experiences!!! (ps - I did read those OLD posts about WSCN, and how it supposedly was a BAD experience for a student. maybe the school has gotten better over time?) Oh! And I know Oak park isn't the best neighborhood where WSCN is situated, but is it really that scary?
