Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, anyone successfully complete these in one term?
Can you pass all three classes? Sure. Can you pull off all A's or B's? Absolutely not. But good luck nonetheless.

Can anyone give me advice on studying for Anatomy Class?
Anatomy is so much harder than I ever anticipating. I only received a 71% on the first lecture exam and have a lab exam on Tuesday. I am soooo discouraged. I mean I KNOW I only studied for three nights... so I blame lack of studying for the poor grade. I can't help but feel stupid though lol. I just hate studying. I'm used to getting better grades with minimal effort. I'm so stressed out.

Thank you. I finally found it right after I had post the question. I am bummed College Algebra is listed! I took Statistics and thought that would be the end of my math journey. damn.

UCHSC Pre-reqs
OMG. I am so frustrated right now. What are the Pre-requisites for the nursing program at UCHSC? I can't find it on the internet. I've been sitting here for several hours and my eyes are glazed over. Please let me know. Thanks.

Got at C+ in A&PI.... what would YOU do?
Yeah, I mean if you think you can get in with a C then definitely go for it. All I know is for the competitive programs I'm dealing with you really need all A's! It's crazy.

may go to ratemyprofessor.com and retake it with an easier teacher.

Which program to choose???
Take your pre-reqs at community college and then you can go to Cal State Long beach, cal state fullerton, or Concordia University in Irvine. They have a second bachelor degree program.

Anatomy - Spring 2009 - What to Study?
Thanks for the great links! I may be insane but I'm attempting to pass Micro, Anatomy, and Physio this Spring. I'm single, no children, and not working. So, if anyone should be able to pass these three classes together it is someone like me!

Contracting diseases?
Thanks guys. I came to this very same conclusion before I came on here and read all the answers. I could easily get TB from going on a plane or have someone cough and sneeze in my face in any public setting or job setting. The only difference is you're aware of who has what at the hospital. That really shouldn't stop me from my dream because of what "could" happen. I feel better! Thanks again.

Contracting diseases?
Are you worried about contracting a disease such as, AIDS or TB? Obviously you take the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe, but there is always that risk. How rare or common is it? I always wanted to be a neonatal nurse so I bet there is a less chance of catching something like HIV or TB because they're just babies, right?

Hello and question
Go for you ABSN (accelerated BSN). You're lucky you can do that and it seems like it would be way easier to get into. I don't know where you live but here in southern california there is a place called Concordia University that just started their BSN program for those who already have a degree in something else and need a career change. That seems way easier to get into than going for the two year degree. Apply to both and make the decision later.

What should I do?!
I'm currently in Community College and will graduate with my AA degree this semester. I've decided to go ahead and transfer to a University this Fall and finish my junior and senior year of Psychology. Afterward, I would most likely go to this private school near my house for their BSN accelerated program. Unfortunately, this private school only has an RN to BSN or Accelerated BSN program. There is no basic/generic program that I could just go into right away. All the other private schools are far away AND they're extra hard to get into. It sucks! One Baptist Christian school wants THREE different Chemistry classes! Are they on crack? Anyway haha I'm happy with my decision. I've found a way to accomplish and fall back on something AND still get to be a nurse! I feel like this huge weight has been lifted. :bowingpur

What should I do?!
Okay, after reading this board about the ADN and BSN programs in California...it is safe to say some wait two years! Someone mentioned they could have gotten their accountant degree by the time they got into nursing school. So, this has me wondering...what if I just go ahead and get my Baccalaureate degree while applying to nursing schools? Or I could just get my degree and then do the BSN accelerrated program. That way I won't be waiting around for years. I could be accomplishing something by then. What do you all think?

Feeling overwhelmed!!!
As a PRE-nursing student all I have to say is if you made it through your pre-requisites, got into a nursing program, graduated from nursing school, was hired for the NICU, made it through orientation, delt with horrible things your very first few shifts...then I'd say you are damn competent. I understand that if you are told to do something you have never seen done before can make you feel stupid. You think, "Why would they give this to me if they didn't expect me to know how? Why don't I know how? Am I stupid or what?" But, no, you're not dumb. If you have to ask several times how to do the same thing, then yeah that's bad. But we all need to be taught something at least one time. Otherwise, how are we supposed to know? Just hang in there. You'll love your job sooner or later. Tell yourself quitting is not an option. Don't give up.

Microbiology-Spring 2008
Thanks for the encouragement. My teacher is nice and does explain things well...but FAST. She gave us vocabulary words for each chapter that we should be familiar with (the exam was ch.1-7). Then, she gave us 9 essay questions (some had several parts!) to study over. She had a review session that went over all the questions and everything that would be on the test! I was very stupid and completely forgot about going! All of those questions were on the test, so there were no suprises or BS. I just didn't take advantage of all the lectures or the review session. This is completely my fault. I know I can do better...but the question is will I? Why am I being so lazy? Where is my motivation? Do I really want this? Those are the questions that are getting me down. Also, you're right about taking Intro or General Bio first. I was going to do that but someone said it was really hard and to take Geography or Anthropology instead. That was before I wanted to be a nurse. Yes, you'll have to work extra hard for Micro if you have no general bio under your belt, but it is very possible. I'm just a nerd who isn't working as hard as I should!:angryfire

Microbiology-Spring 2008
I just had my first micro exam. HARD! I think I totally bombed it. Seriously. I mean I could have studied a lot more and could have gone to the study review session. That would have made things so much easier for myself. But I'm just lazy. Plain and simple. I hate it. I just don't know if I'm cut out to be a nurse.

Any Nurses in Southern Cali?
Thank you so much to both of you. I am using both of your advice. I am sending out a letter to six different hospitals and see if they contact me with any options. Thanks again!

Any Nurses in Southern Cali?
Does anyone on this board work in Orange County, California? I'm already 22, but I just started my pre-reqs in school. I hope to be able to transfer next Spring and obtain my BSN. The problem is I THINK I want to be a nurse (hopefully L&D or Neonatal), but I'm not 100% positive. My heart is willing...but my body is weak. People in pain tend to make me feel like I'm going to pass out. I hate it but it's like my bodies natural reaction. What if I get to nursing school and realize I can't deal? I would LOVE to talk to a nurse at one of the many local hospitals and really get a feel for what I'm getting into. I even contacted one hospital to see if I could shadow a nurse for a day and they said I already have to be an RN! I honestly wish I could just watch a nurse even for an hour and just see how my body reacts. I just know I would get a feeling "Yes, I could do this!" or "No way in hell...*RUN!*" I am truly freaking out about this. I don't want to waste time or spend my Dad's money on something I'll end up failing at. Someone needs to just slap some sense into me. I am stressing out. Don't wanna make the wrong decision.

School still has not responded to my numerous emails
Manatee? Are you moving to Sarasota or Myakka?

Why do you want to be a nurse?
Yeah, your story about being a speech therapist on a reservation is perfect. It is unique and honest. Tell them you were speech a therapist and had your eyes opened to what you feel in your heart you're supposed to do with your life. I, myself, keep wondering why the heck I want to me a nurse as of late. I just started the pre-requisite courses and Microbio is fine (dare I say I like it?), but Chemistry is what's hurting my self-esteem. Granted I haven't actually put any real time into learning the material, but it is just so hard. My teacher is extremely difficult. I just came home and cried today. If I give up on this class then I give up on nursing. I keep saying I won't let this defeat me, but I just get so overwhelmed and frustrated. I don't even know if I'll get into a nursing school around here that is affordable, or if I'd even pass once I was in the nursing program. All of this stress and hard work might not even have a payoff. I'm always a quitter and this is the first time in my life where I'm really trying to fight the urge to take the easy way out and quit.

Chem Spring 2008
I need help! This is so confusing! Q.) Using your knowledge of physical changes, you can separate the components of a mixture. If you had a mixture consisting of table salt (sodium chloride), sand (silicon dioxide) and ammonium chloride (NH4Cl), work out an experimental method that would separate each component while measuring their masses directly or indirectly. Use these properties of the components to help you plan: Table Salt: Melting point: 801 degrees C; Solubility: 35 g will disolve in 100 g water at 100 degrees C. Sand: Melting point: 1600 degrees C; Does not dissolve in water (insoluble). Ammonium chloride: Sublimes at 350 degrees C; Does not melt, Solubility of 37 g in 100 g H2O at 100 degrees C.

nursing schools in CA and NY
Yeah I mean you can just google it. The only ones I've been able to find in the southern part of Cali are far away from where I live such as, Riverside, Loma Linda, Los Angeles, and San Diego. I want a private school BSN program in Orange County but I can't seem to find anything. There are RN to BSN programs but I need a basic BSN program. There is this private Christian school in Michigan called Hope. The campus looks beautiful and it is exactly what I want! Too bad I would have to relocate to Michigan!!

Microbiology-Spring 2008
ahhhh!!! I feel like Micro is another language! There are so many terms and hard words to pronounce let alone understand completely. Right now I'm learning about Cell structure and their anatomy. I just got done coloring a Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cell. It's just so annoying and frustrating. Don't even get me started on Chemistry. The labs are fun for Micro, but I can tell for the lecture part I'm not going to memorize very well. I'm gloomy. I can't wait to get the first test over with to see what it's going to be like.
