  1. Diahni: I am from New York State and the hospital I work in has the RN's and LPN's draw blood. You have to pass a competency on that before doing it. Hope that helps!
  2. Hi laurainri, Do you have an advisor? I can't imagine your school not providing you with resources on how to do research. It is very involved and you will need some guidance. I would ask to speak with your advisor.... I am also in the beginning process of my grad research project. It is very involved with massive literature searches and learning where and how to maneuver through databases...I agree that if your hospital has a library or at your college, that you seek out the reference librarian. Best wishes!!!
  3. Nurse2b2010: I currently work with a RN who has Bipolar illness. She is wonderful at her job and the consumers respond very well to her. There are many people working in mental health who have a mental illness. Bipolar illness is one illness that has a better prognosis then other types of illness. I encourage you to discuss your specific situation with your healthcare provider and that way you can get feedback from someone who knows your situation best. I can not and would not comment on your situation. Good luck!!
  4. Yes, that is wise to remove yourself if possible as the direct care person. I let the person acknowledge me first and of course, like any person who becomes the consumer, their information remains confidential. It is awkward at first, but be the professional you are! Being sensitive to this situation is healthy, I think!
  5. Nurse2b2010: You are not your illness! If your dream is to be a nurse, why would you let anything stand in your way. IT IS horrible enough that society puts stigmas on people with mental illness, please, don't do that to yourself! Follow your healthcare providers treatment of care, as you would with any other type of illness. Just be mindful of your stress level and always, always take care of yourself, regardless! (I am a psychiatric Nurse for twenty years!) GO For YOUR dreams!
  6. My nephew informed me today that he will be entering the Navy in April to undergo training to BECOME a nurse. He has no college level coursework. He told me he will be trained to the equivalent of a LPN. He also reported that he would have an opportunity to work towards a degree while in the Navy and have it paid for. Hope this helps and Good luck!
  7. Thank You for your response. It is such a process to even find the information specific to nursing scholarships and grants. I have been searching online and it is true, not an easy process! I live in New York state. I am going to keep asking at the college I want to attend. With all the talk of nursing shortages and faculty to teach up and coming nursing students, there must be money out there! Thanks again!!! It is appreciated!!
  8. Hello! I am applying for grad school and would like to know if you have any resources/websites for scholarships for advanced nursing degrees. Thanks so much for your help!!!
  9. Do what you love! I have been a psychiatric nurse for twenty years. It has been the most rewarding career ever! I started with med-surg. nursing because that was what was encouraged twenty years ago. I didn't last long there... went right to psychiatric nursing and I've had incredible opportunities. Think outside of the box for where a psych nurse can work. I have published articles, nurse consultant to school systems, worked with a variety of populations of people, and more! follow your dream, your heart, otherwise you won't be happy and that will be the end of nursing for you! Best Wishes!!
  10. I work in Behavioral Health as well. I am BSN but in an administrative role. I wish to return to school for the MSN Education. I have had some formal teaching in the BSN program for learning concepts. Hope this helps.
  11. I am currently searching for scholarships for master of science in nursing education. I am told there is "alot of money out there" but I am wondering if you've learned of any websites/sources that clearly address this.
