Do You Want Universal Healthcare?
That reminds me of Sicko when it showed the British doctor. Apparently he got paid more money if more of his patients stopped smoking, lost weight, etc, etc. I know you can't force people to make healthy decisions but I'd like a system that just doesn't treat you when you're sick but offers preventative care to those who want it, will take advantage of it, etc.

Do You Want Universal Healthcare?
I never said I would make preventative care a mandate or anything like that but it should be available for those who want it. Uhm....let's see. ::Contemplates:: I'm not sure if this is the same as universal health care but I think a national health care system based upon income would be nice. You pay what you can every month into the system. ::shrugs:: I think we definitley need some kind of overhaul but obviously I'm not the one in charge of making decisions, I don't have an economics degree nor a degree in medical administration or whatnot. What would you do? I'm not trying to attack you or anything like that (I can't help but feel singled out with your post but whatever, 'tis cyber space and we'll never meet each other) but I'm open to hearing your views.

Would you feel comfortable with putting your loved ones in a nursing home?
Well, my grandmother had alzheimer's and one of my aunts took care of her until about maybe a week or two before she died. If my mom had alzheimer's, I honestly couldn't handle it. I would put her in THE best nursing home and visit her a lot but it would just be too much for me to deal with on a 24/7 basis. I love my mom to death and I know she wouldn't fault me for it. I love my dad a lot as well and if he had a chronic condition or something like that, I'd put him in the best one as well. Hopefully I won't have to make a choice like this and my parents will be able to live by themselves up until the end (like 40 years from now...or more) and just die in their sleep. ::crosses fingers::

"greener" health care?????
I've definitley thought about it. I'm torn between nursing and going into the environmental field. Hopefully I'll be able to combine both.

Do You Want Universal Healthcare?
With the money we've spent on the war, we can definitley have universal health care. I don't see why not. I would like to see more money spent on preventative care rather than just treating people when they get sick. It helps every one out. Things won't be perfect with it but I think it would be better than the current system. It's a shame so many hard working people can't get health care or can't afford it. At one point my cousin was on Medicare/Medicaid (whichever one it is) and she could go to the doctor ANY time there was a problem and then I on the other hand can only go when something is seriously wrong and my mom works really hard to provide for us. She works for Sam's and I absolutely loved it when she had HMO because I went to the doctor at least once a year. I haven't been in about 2 years. I'm going next week though. =]

Who is in Nursing for the money?
I've been interested in a lot of different field but it always revolved around helping people: psychologist, teacher, interior decorator (lol), doctor, etc. I'm in nursing because I'm fascinated by the human body, want to help people, and it doesn't hurt that the pay is good (considering where you live and what kind of lifestyle you want).

Rude to pt's family?
I'm happy to hear that. There are some moments where "Customer is always right" not that I really see people in hospitals as 'customers' but this was not the case in your situation. I'm really glad you're moving on. =]

Rude to pt's family?
I live in the South and just from reading your first post, I don't think you were rude. Having that family report you makes me scared for when I first start nursing. I'm not all that outgoing and I like to just do my work or whatever needs to be done and just leave. I am very caring and all that but if I need to get something done, it will get done and THEN we can talk. If you're lucky, we can talk WHILE I do it. I just really hate that they reported you. It's really not THAT serious. It seems childish, IMO. For some reason that just makes me angry. I hate they took all that energy just to report you when you really weren't being rude. It would be nice if nurses' personalities could be matched with the patient and the patient's family's personality. Only in a perfect world I guess.

Every day math
Yeah, I've looked up all my prerequisites so I know the math classes I need to take. I was just wondering how prepared I would be given the prerequisites and how much math nurses use. http://nursing.uams.edu/Recruiting/BSNbrochure.pdf

Every day math
I'm a high school senior and I plan on becoming a women's health nurse practitioner. I'm pretty okay with math, I just have a HUGE complex with it. It's my lowest section on the ACT. In any case, I was wondering how much math is involved with every day nursing duties and what math classes you recommend me taking in college. I really appreciate the feed back. =]
