  1. to be honest, no one on our floor runs to an alarm unless we know the person is in immediate risk of falling. I work on a cardiac unit and most of our pateints are self sufficient and they only get bed alarms put on until they first are able to prove they aren't a fall risk, which is about 90% of the floor. So when we hear an alarm, we usually just get to them as we can, now like I said, if we know it's a person who is 90 and confused we do get there much faster, but in general, we just kind of get there when we get there.
  2. :icon_hug: Do you have someone at home you can practice skills on before you go? Maybe get real comfortable doing them at home and then you won't need to think about it when you are there. Good luck to you!
  3. What makes a patient care tech different from a CNA? wouldn't it be cheaper to get the CNA and learn the other skills on the job? What would the starting pay difference be? I was going to go to school for Medical assisting but when I thought about it, I learned all the skills I wanted to do as a CNA and saved myself about 10k.
  4. I can only speak from my experience. I would just communicate to them that you are a diligent worker who is interested in learning as much as possible and you are eager to get started. I don't know if I would mention to them that you are eager to up and go to medical school and plan to soon, they may not want to hire someone they know is leaving soon. Maybe just tell them you really love the medical field and want to someday continue on in your education. I too worked in AL for about a month before getting hired in a hospital. The AL job was a piece of cake but I knew I would never further myself by working there. I love my hospital job but there are days it gets absolutely nuts. I work on an admitting floor so we never usually have enough staff. But other than that I love it.
