It's sounds like nursing is something you really want to do. If you have already been accepted, I def. would. All the Pros you listed are very much true. I worked a construction related field -offshore oilfield diving- for 5 years before going to LVN school and am currently working toward my RN. I work back and forth between Texas and Louisiana as an LVN and have never been happier. It's sounds like you have thought this over and done your homework on the health care industry. You will always have a job as a nurse in Louisiana or if you want to travel- take an assignment. I would go weeks with out work when the oilfield shut down, but as a nurse I work as much or as little as I can afford.

What a little smart-y you have there. She was right to correct the MA. I was at a party last year and this chick telling people she was in "medical school". I was impressed, because she looked to be about 21..maybe. When I asked her what University she was attending she starts telling me she is going to school to become a medical assistant , "which is basically an LVN and RN wrapped up into one degree" I ended up talking with her for most of the night. The schools have alot to do with this kind of attitude.

What do his labs look like before and after starting Detrol? Maybe the Lasix is effecting his electrolytes?? I really don't know, only a guess.

I wouldn't tell her that of course....I would get in alot of trouble with the big wigs even though they are all aware of it anyhow....." If you agree the pt. is not being checked on enough by the CNA, then why would you "reassure" the daughter that her mom is in good hands. "I've tried to keep her happy and reassure her that her mom is in good hands so if she has a sour taste in her mouth it wont be b/c of me!' and i left it at that" This post just really irks me. Judging from this post and your others, your job sounds like a disaster and borderline unethical. It's your choice to stay at this job, rather than not.

I am originally licensed in TX. While living in LA, I applied for a license by endorsement. I got a temporary work permit (license) in about 4 weeks and I believe my permanent license came in 90 days. Call the BON there in LA. They will tell you everything you need to do. Basically the same thing you probably just did to get your MISS license. FBI background check, transcripts, etc. Hope this helps.

I worked for Gulf States Health Care- a long term acute care facility(LTAC) when I was living in Louisiana. Google it for the web site. They have facilities everywhere in La. As a new nurse you will learn alot and practice plenty of skills..starting your pts IVs, IVF therapy, IV ABOs, wound care, meds,etc. Our facility did vent pts and weaning. It's a dirty job, but you will learn alot. Also with 5-6 pts you will learn time management. Which is key to floor nursing. Oh and the pay is good. My facility offered FT, PT, PRN or weekend special hours.

Hi, everyone. I am licensed in my home state as a LVN. I have relocated out of state for the year, where I have received a license by endorsement. It seems like a petty issue that can be resolved just by signing LPN, which I do. But out of curiosity, do I legally have to sign LPN? I could not find it on the board of nurses website for my new state. When I go back home next year, I will have to switch again. After signing your name so many times through out a 12er, it becomes automatic and I have accidently signed LVN soo many times already. Anybody know?
